Great place and a very inspiring artist, perhaps a past pupil of Miss Jean Brodie (?). All of this combined with slightly eccentric editing, silent gaps, and music, but oddly this combination seems reasonably coherent, and gives great insight into a graceful artists, heart and home. Thank you.
I agree with 'start where you are' for a studio. I actually have a lovely room now for creating/working/praying but I often use my portable art station-aka a large tray with sides that has my paints in jars, brushes in another, a few watercolor and sketch books plus a little portable water container with lid and a few pieces of paper towel. I can literally sit in my bed and paint! And somehow it feels less intimidating than sitting at a desk in a formal studio.
Hi! I just made a video of the church settlers from Isle of Skye in 1823 at Pea River Presbyterian Church. The videos are on TH-cam for the 200th Anniversary. I loved this video . I have been painting and making decoupages since 2019. I am a writer. Art has always made me happier. I may not offer many long comments like this. I will do my best to help you grow!
What a beautiful serene home and garden she has created for herself. Beautiful! And the amount of work she produces out of her little studio is simply amazing!
I’ve just started painting after a 29 year break. After having cancer and a break up I now feel ready to go for it. The fear of it seems to have melted away. I worry sometimes I’m too old now (47) Si this was just what I needed to hear 😊
This makes me hugely happy to hear. @rebeccacox244. I am sorry you have had to face such a traumatic journey, but glad to hear you are coming through the other side. Embrace your painting with your whole heart in a playful way , mor healing will flow ❤
You go for it! I am 67 and used to paint before I married and a short while into my marriage then quit. I did do decorative painting here and there. I am thinking I’d like to start up with oils again. again or even try water color or acrylics. Im retired now and have no excuses not to explore my creative side again.
I'm relearning painting for myself. And living for myself . It's a very healthy process of self love and growth. Open your heart fearlessly for self love. Dare to be bad or , good just learn and grow. Play is healthy at any age. I have painted since I was a child. I started thinking about marketable work . Now I paint what I love and what to explore.
What a wonderful place Gill has created and I loved her take on playing with our creativity which I tell my workshop participants all the time. Nothing more important. I will share this with my husband, who will really enjoy this too. xx
Thank you for sharing. I love Gill's garden, studio, & cottage. Her art is beautiful, it would be wonderful to join a class. Alas, I live in another country. The cottage is gorgeous, and all the decor and art. 🤗🌷🎨😍 I hope you don't mind me saying I didn't enjoy the music though, lol. We all like different things of course.
What a beautiful place and such a wise advice to give us. I started painting 9 years ago as I turned 60 and I’m loving it. Thank you so much for sharing this artist and her sanctuary. I can’t wait to visit Scotland in a year. Gil is an inspiration.
If you are in Argyll at all you must look up Gill’s website www.lovedovestudio.com in case she has any events on. I hope that you really enjoy your trip - where did your ancestors live?
I would love you to come and ‘hang out’ such fun it would be. My door is always open . A time together could always be organised if your were coming to the area . Thank you so kindly for your lovely comments @gailsargerson328 ❤
Gill is an inspiration. The idea that I loved the most is, and it may be something that is already a common sense way of working for most artists, but knowing that whatever medium you work with, it has an energy and it will speak to you during the creative experience. Learning to listen is the new skill to incorporate.💖
I really think listening is the way to creative freedom. Naturally it comes with its challenges, but that is how we learn to create something beautiful that is unique to yourself. How special that is . Thank you so much for your comment. Makes me very happy to have shared something you can hold onto.
I create things out of things. In my dinning are today I am almost finished with a circus in an old stand alone bird cage; in the kitchen nook a leg mannequin is combing out spectacular, and the second room is the actual supply room and small project room. Have a small patio area full of flowers as well. I can relate to her totally, thank you. What a lovely life we live. 🕊🙏💕
FIrst time viewer here. My Scottish ancestors settled in Western North Carolina, USA. Our beautiful mountains and rolling hills look very similar to yours. I'm a landscape painter who has carved out a small corner in our spare bedroom. Loved this video!
I very much enjoyed this video. The freedom with which Gill paints and her message is so inspiring. I am a new subscriber as of today. I am excited to see and experience more of her creativity. ❤
Thank you so kindly. It was a joy having Jane visit. Lovely speaking to all of you too from my little cottage and studio. Thank you for watching @AH-em3zl ❤
This was so inspiring . Gill is such a lovely women and her home is full of light and life. I've always been creative and now I'm finding myself falling in to paint gouache in particular I'm finding lovely to work with. Watercolour still scares me however. Imagine opening up your home for artists how lovely.
Thank you for watching @tracysmith9393 Gouache is a lovely medium to embrace. Watercolour does scare many , but no need. Splash around with it, just remember to allow sections to dry you want to keep. Try embracing a wet on wet technique too in a playful way to find out what you like. So wish you could visit one day to simply play and be liberated. All fear gone…Happy painting. Would love to hear how you get on ❤
Layers of beautiful scenes in the garden the studio nook for creative energy and the home which surprised me with the subtle tones that made it just a beautiful place to be…thankyou for the visit..🦋🌸🦋
What an amazing, articulate and intuitive artist. Gill has put into words what countless art classes have failed to teach me. She is one of the greatest teachers I have ever encountered. Love, love, love, the sandpaper idea. Thank you!
Wow, this was just wonderful! I am a Scot living in Australia so the feeling of being back home was wonderful....Gill's work is marvelous and what a generous artist to share her insights and thought process. I loved the idea of keeping the old paint palette paper for collage and the net bag from lemons...brilliant! I have saved this video as I will revisit it again and again. Thank you Jane @ Snapdragon Life and Gill Stewart for sharing. 💜👍✨💗
Oh! This was just glorious to watch! What an inspiration to learn from the lovely Gill and to see her heart toward's sharing with others. This is what my own heart yearns for. Her cottage is nested in the most inspiring way and now I'll wish to be there always.
Oh my word... the history of that church and cemetery was breathtaking. The moss and ferns growing on the tombstone is natures art at its miraculous best. Love her cozy little studio. We should all have a destination like that. BTW... her hair is gorgeous!!!
I loved this video! What a great atmosphere and so many good ideas. I agree, sharing sounds nicer than teaching, friendlier. I’ve been trying to create a little spot in my shed for art, but it’s a slow go, lots of other junk in there. So I love her little art studio. Just being outside is so nice, with some shelter.
Starting where you are brings many new and lovely surprises along the way. So glad you enjoyed your visit on here to my little cottage, studio & garden @RobertRemlinger-mq8iy
I Love Luss (and cemeteries--we actually moved next door to one!) That graveyard is incredible and even inspired a poem that was published in a journal recently🙂
This is my first visit to your channel. Loved the studio chat! It was very encouraging for me. Love her art... even the in-proces or experimental pieces are fabulous to me. I'm not a lover of gray, but her piece with the mustard is lovely. Now her home... beautiful but definitely not for me! I need color! I suppose because she works with color all the time, her eyes and mind need a place to rest. 😊 Thank you for sharing! 🎨
Fascinating to read @revonda5204. You are absolutely right, my eyes need a resting place. I work with muted & colourful palettes in my art, but my home needs to be quiet. For many reasons . Sometimes splashes and clashes appear in cushions and throws, florals & candles too. Probably mostly in Autumn and Winter. I love how we all see differently. Thanks for commenting ❤
Hello Jane, I absolutely love this video. After 50+ years of believing that I cannot paint, I am painting. It's not anything grand, mostly following others' tutorials. But, I am creating it and it is fun. Most of the time, I take either other paintings or photos of things, mostly flowers and I put them together, like a sort of collage to create a new painting. Yes, I know, that lighting is off because it's flowers from different photos (and paintings), but I create something that I like.... I also use wet palette and up to now have been throwing away my dried up wax paper "palette", but using this "palette" like Gill suggests is a great idea. Thank you.

What a beautiful video. It was a delight to hear the lovely Gill sharing her thoughts on the importance of just letting go and having fun with Art. Her space is so inviting and full of beautiful work, ideas and inspiration. Thank you so much.
It is a very small space - I was filming wedged into the door- one of those summerhouses with the double doors at the front. It fits the painting table and then Gill standing behind.
Sorry to be so long replying. In the video I am working with Acrylic @jackiblair . Both watered down, which can have a look of watercolour or gouache. I also apply it thickly for different surfaces and textures . Hope that helps ❤
@@GillStewart-it3oe Hello Gill…..No worries. I rewatched the video with pleasure again. I hadn’t quite taken in the size of your studio. So nice to have a private spot for your art isn’t it. Jacki

What a beautiful video. It was a delight to hear the lovely Gill sharing her thoughts on the importance of just letting go and having fun with Art. Her space is so inviting and full of beautiful work, ideas and inspiration. Thank you so much.
@@snapdragonlife yes definitely that would be fantastic xxx
Thank you Julie @juliereilly. I would love to welcome you one day ❤
Thank you Alison. You are always so encouraging. Delighted you enjoyed Jane’s wee tour ❤
What a brilliant video and inspiring woman. I wonder if Gill takes part in the open studios in Argyll?
Thanks - I really don’t know. I shall ask her later. X
Thank you . Lovely of you to say. @pmswatson
Yes, I am taking part In Artmap this year with my husband George - number 31
Such beautiful comments. I am quite moved. Always know my door is open if anyone would like to visit ❤
Really beautiful. Is love to know the size of her little studio? It’s gorgeous.
It is a very small space - I was filming wedged into the door- one of those summerhouses with the double doors at the front. It fits the painting table and then Gill standing behind.
Forgot to say @karenmcc2197 my studio is 7feet long by 5feet deep. Had to go with planning restrictions, but it works fine ❤
Thanks so much for that. Much appreciated.
Love this so much. Could you tell what media she’s using. It doesn’t seem like watercolor but I can’t tell what it is. Thank you
Perhaps Gill could elaborate about the technique. I wouldn’t want to get it wrong. X
Jacki
