Off topic but I love how you make short videos and get to the point.. not 18 minute videos where half of it is useless. Kudos
Dude thanks for that!! I appreciate your support on that man
Nice work Jon and thanks! Great to hear Toyota not only watches your videos but actually responds to them as well. I’ve been on the fence about purchasing a new Tundra due to all these annoying issues. At current prices these trucks should be rock solid! Great to hear they want to rectify ongoing issues.
I hear you on that man. I hate these sticker prices for things that aren’t perfect.
@@TRDJon With all these concerns I can’t believe I did it but … on Friday I pulled the trigger on a 24 Tundra TRD Pro in Terra. When the deal came in under sticker I bit. So far so good, I’m loving the iForce Max and the build quality seems completely 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻. All your coverage made me wait for the third year of production so hopefully that’s the charm. Again Jon thanks for your honest and unrelenting review of this product!
Yeah, nice work! JON You're one stand up guy.
Real honest Totally transparent
Awesome sleuthing. Automakers need to start taking channels such as yours seriously. It's free real world testing for them.
Great news! Thanks for the effort and follow up to get this addressed. Glad to hear Toyota is paying attention!
Same man!! Thanks for the support!
I cannot believe a truck that costs as much as that had such a simple defect make it through Q/A. Mindboggling really
I started getting the same issue on my 2023 Tacoma off road around 5000 miles and have been trying to figure it out. Definitely going to try this
Here is the seal: amzn.to/3RySlZe I wonder if Toyota is just using crappy seals?
Basically door seal not manufactured to spec or the spec is off. Great catch and very practical solution. Have a brand new Toyota Tundra 2024 Platinum, no issue with this…yet. Thanks!
Good thing you figured it out. Hate to see you let that truck go.
Always thought it was coming from the window. That rattle is so damn annoying, so I’ll definitely will be trying this on mine. It’s awesome to know that Toyota is acknowledging the problem, your videos definitely helped.
@TRDJON…thank you for the update. I am actually sitting at the Toyota dealership taking care of the 10k miles service, some recalls and the rattling noise on the door. When I saw the video, I ran to the service manager and showed him the video so hopefully they can at least put a temporary rubber seal just as you did. Thank you, again and keep up the good work.
Thanks for sharing! I hope they can too!
They didn’t have weather strip thin enough to fit in there, but I went to auto zone and purchased a roll. The service manager and senior mechanic believe that the actual noise is coming from the windshield seal. He touched and it rattles. They send a message to their Toyota field representative but he is currently on Christmas vacation. I will post something on this post when I hear something back. Also, do you know what part the dealer replaced for the leg extension?
I have a Tundra with the same problem. I solved the rattling by putting LOTS of grease inside the window tracks. The loose wheels that run back and forth inside the window tracks is causing the rattle. The grease prevents the wheels from hitting the walls of the window tracks causing the rattle sounds. I'm really confident this could fix your problem. Take off the door panel and move the window and it's mechanisms around, you'll hear the wheels rattle against the tracks.
Wish you had a video. Are the windows on your tundra very loose when rolled down half way?
No, they were not loose. They did make noises like chattering and clinking.@@xtomkx
Glad this was finally fixed! I am headed in for my 15K service and I am going to see if I can get them to adjust the door strikers and adjust the door seals. Hopefully this is the last of it. Thanks Jon!
Glad I could help!
Thanks for this. I have this exact issue and have been trying to get this addressed through my dealer. The response I have gotten is that it is expected noise thanks the the wind off the side mirrors. I installed the rubber seal this weekend and the noise disappeared. I will be using this to get the dealer to correct it.
Great job. I’ve had exact issues from day 1, ‘22 TRD pro. Loud whistle on drivers side and bad rattle on passenger side.
Technician at dealer acknowledged, but said there wasn’t a fix.
That's good. I was looking weeks ago to trade up for a tundra and I changed my mind because of the window/door rattle. Now they know the issue I will start looking again to get into a tundra.
@TRDJon, thanks for the follow up.
I have similar issues with my ‘22 1794. I was convinced from there beginning that this was a door fitment/ gasket fitment issue. As you said, placing your fingers against the gasket from the inside edge makes the noise disappear.
My dealer did adjust the RR door latch to tighten it up which did help, but it’s still there.
My dealer escalated the issues to Toyota Corporate during my last service (20k). I told them I don’t care if I have 70,000 miles on it Toyota is going to fix it at no charge.
If you can, please post a sample of the gasket add-on that you used and when the dealer does apply the Toyota fix, please pass on the associated TSB number. Thanks!
Great news. Glad it is going to be this kind of fix instead of having to take the door cards off and disassembling the window regulators. I expect a service bulletin soon.
GJ Jon, mine started this year as it got cold. So going to do this until it gets fixed. Thank you! Happy Holidays
Thanks, you too! Here is the seal that worked for me. Yea the cold made it sooooo much worse. amzn.to/3RySlZe
@@TRDJon thank you, I wondered what you used. I live in the mountain states 6k up, so a bit colder than Florida 😂
I'm glad you finally found the problem JON, to bad the factory didn't catch it. :)
Hopefully this helps on moving forward for everyone that expressed the same issues with theirs.
The problem is that rattling is not noticed until 4K-5k, which make me also believe that something in the door is doing that as well.
Commented on previous videos; mines a whistling noise at 35 mph+ but I started super gluing the seal a month ago where the noise comes from.. going to wait until hearing more about a possible fix!
Same! It’s so annoying. Mine started after I lifted it though. But I may mess with the seals on that side too
I believe you found it with the door being not able to seat with the seals properly, so weird being related to window rattle@@TRDJon
Exactly what I did to fix mine. Only I bought D Channel seal and applied it over the door jam seal. Dealer installed new seals a year ago and it only fixed it for a few months before the noise came back. Hopefully they come up with a more permanent solution.
I’d try to have them adjust your striker maybe too.
@@TRDJon we should have started with the body shop! They would have fixed it right the first time. Having owned a ‘21 Tundra, these doors close way too easily… dead giveaway the seal isn’t tight.
Im so glad you do these videos. I have a 2024 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro that is having the same issue on the passenger side door which is very annoying. I am so grateful that this is going to be rectified thanks to your video, save me a lot of back and forth with the service department trying to figure it out.
Have this issue with my 2nd gen tacoma. I'll give this a shot, thanks Jon
This makes me so happy to hear, you really deserve this fix and your Tundra Jon!
short and straight to the point ty
Thanks for being a leader on this and taking the arrows for the rest of us. By the time you figure out for Toyota how to fix their issues on the Tundra, I'll finally have the guts to buy one for myself 😉
Their engines are still grenading which is keeping me from making the jump to a new Tundra
I've got a 2013 GMC Sierra with 135k miles on it that I bought knew and it still runs like new. I'm not letting it go for anything on the market right now. Not until the truck manufacturers come back to the reality that the basics of truck design - comfort and reliability - are far more important than the wizardry of overkill gadgetry and technology they are currently more concerned about.
@@Joey_Freshwater1
Crazy, I would have thought it would have been the run channel. My 17’ 5th gen 4runner does this on the left front window. The dealer kept telling me I had loose change in the door panel “I go to the dealer with my kids”. My kids are never in a position in the 4runner to do this. After 3 visits I gave up. Drives me crazy.
Write a bad review for the dealer
@@TRDJon Sad part is I did that and called Toyota of North America and no one helped. As a service advisor by trade, I was very shocked. Side note, to anyone who reads this if you google your auto manufacture there is a customer service phone number you can call and let them know what you have experienced and that you are still having a problem. “Usually” they will help you above and beyond the dealer. In most cases your car has to be within warranty or a certain mileage.
Excellent fix. Just applied to mine. Thanks for sharing. Glad Toyota is paying attention; maybe they'll eventually produce an improved liner.
That's Great Information. I live in Northern Michigan, its getting colder. I am starting to get more wind noise. Going to try this solution. Then ill see if my Toyota dealer will help fix it.
Here is the strip I used: amzn.to/3RySlZe
I have a 2020 4R ORP, no issues whatsoever, my pickup truck of choice is a GMC Sierra 2500HD Duramax, incredible truck and very capable, GM has refined this truck to dam near perfection over the years. Engine is amazing as is the Allison transmission. Tows my Airstream 27FB with ease. I have owned three Tundra's, ok trucks but not a GMC 2500HD. Just hit 40K mi, no issues whatsoever.
HD 3/4 Trucks are real trucks
Hopefully the seals Toyota changes out are better than the ones presently on your truck. My experience is for quality of the seals are hit or miss. My truck has had 3 sets of seals with same result. I was battling door rattle and wind noise mostly . I did something similar to what you did . I order a automotive style seals and stuck it on the cab of the truck where door seal contacts the cab. Door rattle is gone but wind noise still present .....better but still present . Very disappointing the amount of wind noise that Toyota consider acceptable in a 45k to 75k truck. Ive owned 20 year old trucks that were much quieter when it comes to noise wind. Good luck hope you get a proper fix !!
My 2024 limited has the wind noise ,sounds like a heavy cross wind hitting the windows,I have to turn radio so it don’t drive me crazy I like a quiet vehicle,my 2007 was allot quieter,no door rattles
This is great to hear and super cool that Toyota has watched and reacted. Going to give this a try on my tundra! Thanks for the video!!
Glad to hear Toyota is paying attention - they need to design a replacement door seal with a much bigger cross-section that seals up properly all around. Should be a big fat cross-section, not something that flops around between the door and door jam.
You are the man Jon! Thank you for posting these videos brother!
My pleasure!
I’m going to try this on mine. Still taking it in to a dealer to fix the seat. 72 hours with it so hope that is all that needs to be addressed.
Does your head liner around the pano roof also rattle?
Mine does not but I have been in tundras that do
Our boy out here getting it done
Just wanna drive my truck again without hating it lol
My dad bought an 02 Tundra brand new with the 4.7 V8, and that truck has had no issues whatsoever after 215,000 miles other than a new radiator. However, that was after twenty years and 200,000 miles. Definitely incredibly reliable!
I added your weather stripping Jon, and for 3 days it was gone, even over bumps. but today it's back. I noticed the weather stripping I placed in the channels is now compressed/thinner than it was the first day I installed it. Makes sense. But my guess is it was just the pressure from having the extra weather stripping in the channel that pushing the factory seal open and preventing rattle. Essentially it made it wider/bigger. Now that the extra weather stripping is compressed, the factory seal is thinner overall/ not being pressed open enough, hence the rattle. The permanent fix is going to have be a full replacement of the factory weather stripping or something there in the channel that isn't as pliable.
Nice! I’m glad it went away for you as well enough to realize it is definitely something with the cheap trim
@@TRDJon definitely. Even though the rattle is back we all know what needs to be fixed. Thanks for the video
zYes sir!
I'll stick with my 4Runner TRD Pro. Best TRD Jon ever had on the channel
I like my 2022 but I absolutely HATE the passenger door rattling. It ruins the ride. My dealership here in North Dallas said they’d charge me to investigate the issue so my confidence is low that Toyota will fix it for me, but I’ll keep watching your videos to see how this progresses. Thank you!
So the original seal was basically not to spec. needed to be beefier. nice job figuring it out!
Thanks man! Iit was team work but it seems to have solved the issue.
Yup. My dealer diag guy fixed mine by moving the striker in and adjusting the door a little. They already replaced my door seal and that didnt fix anything. When I spoke with corporate, I mentioned your video. Also, where did you get that rubber seal piece from? When you adjust the striker youll notice that the door will be harder to close with the pressure with the closing of the door
Cant wait to see what toyotas acutal fix is.
amzn.to/3RuhaWq got it on Amazon.
Yours super solid now?
Yup, minus massive speed bumps, pot holes or craters that we have up here its all quiet minus some noises from the plastic in the car. Window does move a little bit when its cracked an inch to half an inch but I rarely have windows down so it doesn't bother me. @@TRDJon
I’ve been having this same issue on my drivers side door. Local dealer (Servco) replaced the door seal and window seal and also tried adjusting the door striker. They actually tried! But the door is still making the same sound after all of that! Thank you so much for narrowing down the issue and working with Toyota with a potential fix.
Man really?? Glad they did all that. They sound like a solid dealer.
Make sense, they still have the same door seal, installing a new means, it is just out a plastic bag, but identical to the existing seal.. There is only very little wiggle room on the latch on B-pillar. Unless they make a thicker seal, adjusting the latch won't work. I messed with that in my 92 Corolla.
I'm very happy for you that you are getting it figured out. Really hoping Toyota adds back the QC it seemed to have prior to this gen.
It was between tundra and Ram for me cause I’m fed up with wind noise on my Titan. Was hoping the new tundra wind issue was fixed by now so I’m gonna go Ram. Inexcusable for a 60k plus truck with this kind of engineering to make its owners jump through hoops to resolve the issue. Thank you for your video
Drinking game!
Shot every time Jon says super
Imma have to watch this again cuz you aren't the first to say that lol
Spoiler on tailgate is almost a full recall. Heard they will have a repaint and a new spoiler fix so it stops digging into paint when expands in heat. Have you looked around the top sides and under the handle ?
Fantastic video, thank you
Glad you enjoyed it!
i found that my brand new 2011 tacoma had that issue too. wiped a thin layer of grease onto the seal where it meets the body and it stoped the squeak/rattle.
nice job bring this to the community!
Always man!
After watching your previous video, I felt dissappointed in Toyota not addressing your issues. But after watching this, Toyota definitely has gotten my trust back!
Thanks for the info Jon. I'll keep an eye on mine for that issue/solution
I wonder if a bead of black silicone along that inner pocket where you put that rubber would be a way to fix it as well. Granted you'd have to be very careful and make it look factory clean. Ehh, might be to messy and easier to put a rubber seal you put and just silicone that into place.
I’ve been having this problem with my 2023 as well…it’s been in to the dealership now twice and they make me feel like I’m being a pain for complaining, but my old F150’s never had issues like this. I expected more from the supposedly superior Toyota product. I’m starting to feel like all new models are just expensive and poorly designed/built…and they’re just letting the quality slowly slide away.
And on a completely different topic, if @toyota does indeed read these, the subscription service to use my map and auto start features really just makes me angry. I will never pay extra to use the features that I already own, on the vehicle I paid for, purely on principle. But I’d like to be able to warm up my truck in Minnesota winter…
Used to have to do that with an old subaru forester. That was a frameless window though. Seems odd that a framed window wouldn't be secure.
Mine just started at 5k miles! Even worse is the harmonic humming noise in 9th gear at speeds above 70mph (only when the accelerator is pressed)
Same thing happening with mine plus loud wind noise on passenger side. 1k miles. Literally new.
The wind noise is horrible for sure
this has been an ongoing issue for years and I'm surprised the dealer doesn't know that - I fixed it on my 2014 Tacoma TRD OR back in 2014. It was the door seals sticking together and rubbing making that sound righ in my ear. I put seal conditioner, silicon on the seals so they don't stick together and "glide." It did the same on my 2019 TRD OR on my driver side, fixed it again with seal conditioner
It's already been years. lol
Finally just took the platinum emblem and door trim off. After 5 attempts as it comes off in heat or expands and catches the front door I am over it! TRD pro does not have it and looks clean. Next owner can always buy and put them back on. It’s only the platinum with this trim and dealership sees it all the time.
Toyota is an entire different kinda company. Ive never experienced this kinda service
Biggest disappointment of the new tundra is the door rattle and noise. Been following your journey long before I was a tundra owner. This is amazing news!!
Very amazing for sure!
I don’t get a lot of rattling but I hear a lot of road/wind noise from the windows. Almost feels like my windows are slightly open but they are not. Super frustrating, hopefully they can replace the seal.
Hope they can for you too man.
Glad it wasn’t the glass. Do you know if the acoustic glass on the new Taco will be in the limited only or the TRD premium trims as well?
Thats funny this was the solution. My old 94 Toyota pickup hasnt had a rattle or sqeak ever except the steering column cover even at 30 plus years old. My passenger window would rattle over bumps ever since i got Load E tires. I suspected the door seal was letting go and sure enough this kind of sounds like the same issue. The door is just vibrating because the seal isnt tight enough against the body.
Thanks for the video! I was wondering, what size weather stripping did you use in your fix? I went to my local parts house and all their weather stripping looked too big. Thanks!
Jon I know I’m late to the party and my dealership is a POS. They fight me on everything. And I have been fighting with this just like you thinking it’s the window. Could you PLEASE share what material and size worked on yours?!? Thank you for all your videos!!
Hopefully this will fix my rattle hitting bumps. Not sure if it's the door or the a pillar.
Can’t wait to hear the issues on the 2024 Tacoma red models!
Glad ur issue is fixed Jon. Do you also experience any issues with brake squeal noise. I own a 2022 Tundra SR5 with 15k miles and have been having this issue and many people seem to experience it too. Toyota if you are watching this. Please issue a fix.
I haven't noticed that at all. SOmetimes it does when I fire it up and back outta my drive, but after that it doesn't squeel
Ah ok. For me my brakes squeal during low speeds to complete stop. Just happens on flat roads and completely embarrassing for a new expensive truck. Anyways thanks for getting back.
Hopefully we get a fix for the whistling window and rattling door panel with music as well :).
2024 Limited tundra wind noise from front driver window and also passenger side as well wind noise starts at 40mph
Has it leaked? I added weather strip on the inside jamb. I didn’t not want to mess with that door seal. It helped a little, I cannot hear the rattle as much. I also thought it was the glass but it is no, the seal is made of a cheap material that rattles. I’ll add a pic if I can.
Not that I've noticed and it has been raining
Is it a rattle mainly when you go over any bumps especially at slow speed? (this is my issue) 23 tundra passenger window
Yes that has gotten way worse
I have the exact problem with my 2022 Lariat front doors…dealer has ordered new seals and will have their body shop install and adjust doors….very annoying particularly for a 70,000 truck.
Wind noise is crazy on this truck tho from the mirrors and cheap padding
Thanks for fighting the good fight for us! Do you think this will be a TSB soon?
Not sure yet but I will keep you posted
Wish Toyota can solve the mirror whistling noise on the tundras with regular mirrors.
Does it with the tow mirrors too
Toyota...we are watching.. you better do something special for Jon
They have. Press cars and drive events have been more than fruitful for the channel 🤙🏼
Have you heard is any 2024 Tundras are having similar issues? Just purchased a 2024 Platinum Tundra… so far no issues.
The dealer had them on their lot and drove one and it had the issues. Not every truck but it is a good bit.
Nice detective work
Thank you kindly
Good work I would just use some sealer adhesive and your ghetto weatherstrip and call it a day. No need to go back to the Toyota dealership.👍😀
my windows have an issue rolling up at times, I'm wondering if these two issues have anything to do with each other.
I have been going crazy about this.....I swear mine sounds like the moonroof.....I kept telling my kids...."hear it"....what dad???? The F'n noise!!!!! I opened my moon roof and don't hear it anymore when it's open....maybe it covers the rattling?? I swear it doesn't make the noise with the moonroof open....I was going in for the first service and was going to complain about the moonroof noise....but seems like most dealers should know what this is apparently?? 2022 TRD Off Road
I have the same rattle and wind noise from a door seal that Toyota did not include on my truck.
Jon, glad you found a repair. Two things, the first being where did you get the material for the new seal?
Two, have you noticed at highway speeds when it’s super windy that the hood of your tundra moves a ton (more of a flex I would say)?Mine does and Toyota has checked out the latch and said the hood is fine. So I am just chalking it up to the aluminum body panel.
Mine does the same thing. I thought it was related to the AVS bug shield I put in the truck.
@@Efra0315 I guess it’s just normal flex since the hood is aluminum. Pressing down it while parked it has a ton of flex in it. Looks concerning though haha
Now onto fixing the creaking front seat……
I mentioned the fix to that in my last dealer update video on this. They were able to replace the framing of the seat. for it and it is solid now.
@@TRDJon What I had been reading on Reddit indicated there’s no surefire permanent fix….yet. Regardless, I have a dealer appointment tomorrow. And I did see your last video and hope it continues to work for you! For context, I’m in a 23’ TRD Pro
Im waiting on toyota to explain the main bearing issues before i buy mine. That is my biggest fear. I don't want to get a $57 truck to just have the engine freeze up with less than 20k miles. So toyota, if you're reading this... please fix that and explain that.
The other day i went to my parts car 91 Cressida to grab a part. When I shut the door, i had to open and shut it again just to appreciate the satisfying quality sound of the door shutting... on a junk car 33 years after it was produced.
Driving my GS400 feels like you're operating a car machined from one solid piece of steel where my GS350 F sport feels kinda chintsy. Maybe Toyota should go back to their old ways of attention to detail and quality control.
70K truck, hey Toyota fix it before I buy mine!
Jon, take out your repair, and with a single sheet of paper, test the tension applied to the paper from those seals on all 4 doors where they seal to the body. Place that single sheet of paper between the door and body, then close the door, pull the paper out and remember how the tension felt, try all 4 doors, bound to be loose!
In which video was it that you showed the adapter to make android auto wireless on the 3rd gen ? Im looking for the product info.
The QI charger on my Tundra doesn’t work. The one on my New Sequoia works fine. Dealership told me the fault is with my phone - my wife’s phone - the techs phone all of which didn’t work with the QI pad and not the charging pad itself.
Had to do something similar in my GMC Sierra
Oh really???
@@TRDJon yes, had the same issue with the window. If you pressed up against the window, it would go away. I put weatherstripping behind the other weatherstripping, by where the body panel is so that it pressed firmer against the window, and it solved it.
Awsome Jon, getto fixed hahahaha
I hope you send them the bill for fixing their problem..
Just trying to help find a solution for everyone my friend.
I have a 2023 tundra
And it is noise at the highway. I want to add that seal bc it is annoying in long trips.
Good fix🤙
I have wind noise in the driver side and rattle on the passenger side. Any updates on the wind noise or could it be the same problem?
None unfortunately man. It’s getting annoying.
I can feel air in that spot.
Thats wild!
link to the size seal that you used? Don't want to over compensate and gap it too much.
