    I had a faulty SAM on my 2003 W211, the front one. My wipers, horn, lights, but the front right head light would stay on and not to mention the outside temperature read 85C. I got a replacement SAM a reconditioned one. And so far a year later I have had no more issues, touch wood. 😁 And I like watching your videos on these old Mercs 😊

    Got a battery drain. Disconnect the Central Gateway Control Unit uder the drivers side dash. It will stop the can system from keeping the car "awake" and draining the battery. Often times the drain is from the navigation dvd drive or the alarm battery under the drivers side fender. I hooked up a relay that kills the power to the central gateway when the car is shut off to eliminate my battery drain.

    Is there a part number cross reference tool to run these modules through? I wonder if these are slightly older or newer revisions of compatible mobules.

    • @mikejanne7001
      @mikejanne7001 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      There is not much information available for compatibility. For example P/N 220 123 01 44 may say replaced by 220 123 03 44 in the parts guide. In that case you are pretty safe replacing an '01' with an '03'. However, if your car came with the '03' going to the earlier '03' version can cause problems. Mercedes tries to be backwards compatible when possible, but they obviously can't anticipate forward compatibility.
      Even more confusing, Mercedes will change the platform portion of the p/n for shared parts. In other words, the next version might be a 215 123 07 44. It might be perfectly fine to use the 215 part ipo the 220 p/n's, but you have to research and sometimes guess.

    • @someone28
      @someone28 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mikejanne7001 I found what it does. Its for electrically adjustable outer rear seat, heated rear seats and for use with premium sound system. Might not have that option but M/B always leaves a connector. I have retrofired many things to my M/B fleet over the years.

    Love getting the niggly jobs knocked out. I have changed the very same fuse box on my old W215 when the blower motor fuse had melted the fuse box. It looks scary but if you’re methodical it’s pretty straightforward. Wonder why the fuse box had got so drenched…..perhaps reed drain issue or the box lid not fitted properly? Random rear seat cable tele module missing perhaps?

  • @mikejanne7001
    @mikejanne7001 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Mike, I'm not really a 220 expert, but I'm pretty sure that connector is for the E-call module. You can see the orange fiber optic cable which normally also goes to it, but was looped to bypass. No need to replace, it has been non-functional for a decade (analog cellular technology) and its only purpose these days is to drain your battery. I would pull the E-call fuse and tape over the open connector just in case.

      I believe that is the answer that Mike was looking for... I was trying (unsuccessfully) to fix my rear sam last week and saw a phone module (with orange fiberoptic) as well as the heated/ventilated seat module sitting there on top of the sam where that connector is. I don't have massage seats, but maybe there's another module for that?

    A35/7 (CTEL interface)
    A35/8 (E-call control module)
    A35/11 (Voice control system control module)

    As it seems to be mega fun to rip the back seat apart, I suggest to check the S55 if she has the same mystery wire. Than you can search for the partsnumber of the box with the counter piece. I guess it's the scart cable for a Saudi Arabian VHS player, you have to think of the other S600 customers 😁😁 Heard they love their non halal red pig tapes. 😬 Or it's just me.

  • @robertvance1873

    Your lucky the fuse wrapped in tin foil didn't cause a fire, might want to put a fuse in and see if it blows immediately might be a short and previous owner was forcing it to complete circuit, good job on the other things, kinda hard to find numbers that match. Till next time.

  • @1chish
    @1chish 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Hi Mike - if those SAMs are Bosch they have a cross reference table for most of their ECUs so maybe worth a 'Google'. I found a forum link if this helps:
    www.benzworld.org/threads/rear-sam-unit-compatibility.2957169/
    Although any ECU is VIN specific they do get superseded so I would have tried the units to see what worked and what didn't. The worst is the main car ECU will throw a fit if it could not recognise the part number.
    As for that big plug contact MB and get a printout of the full specification for your car using the VIN number. May give you a clue. Oh and the overhead controls are apparently managed by that rear SAM.
    But after all that the S600 project is going well mate. Soon have it running and sold and another step to the Bentley. 👍
