Loved this! My 9 year old daughter danced with a friend in their school talent show last year to One Day. They picked the song and created their dance routine. It was so moving, so proud. Was amazing to learn so much more about the artist. Thank you!

Saw Matisiyahu in Berkeley this month. Felt so good to feel so held and safe in strength, love and prayer together with Am Yisrael. Thank you both for advocating, fighting and keeping us strong in this dark time.

    "I B e bold like a leopard, fierce like a lion
Like an eagle flying across the sky, and they wonder why
When they ponder on the creation of his majesty
I believe in we, I believe in you and me
As we swim upon the ocean, swim on the sea
Won't you, please, come with me, running up into the hills
And the trees we can fall down through the tumbleweeds
I will be our king, you will be my kingdom
I will promise to sing them"
HOLY SHIT. IWATCHED ALMOST THE WHOLE THING THEN REALIZED THIS IS YOU!
    LOVE YOUR STORY

I've had some intense experiences with loneliness, especially with being forgotten. It hurts like crazy
but it makes me creative. I start writing and sketching. At that point there is definitely a certain spirituality to it. For me that feels very healing.💝

Knowing that you’ll reprise your Amy’s character along with Jim Parson’s Sheldon at the YS finale, may I, we, ask you to have Jim here at MBB for an adorable episode, preferable in studio, using the time you two will be together at LA? I’m sure that all MBB followers will add here at my petition! It’d be a way to close perfectly the circle somehow..

Very cool, this talk with Matisyahu, and his evolution to a broader spiritual experience. As a post WWII Baby Boomer, I grew up in a predominantly agnostic household, until my family moved to a North Shore Long Island town, dubbed the “Golden Ghetto”, and we joined a Reformed Congregation. Funny, mentioning a study where attending Hebrew school had a negative effect. Since early childhood I have always been spiritually focused. I recall reading stories by Issac Bashevis Singer as a girl. And in one of the stories he mentions Kabbalah. So, my 10 year old self, went and asked my Hebrew School Teacher if I could learn more about it. I remember she looked at me, like I had two heads, and immediately shot me down with: “ No, you have to be at least 40 years old, and a man”. Even then, my reaction was WTF. I never was Bat Mitzvah, and while appreciative of my Jewish roots/heritage, continued my personal spiritual journey down other avenues. (Yoga, Vedanta, Buddhism)

As a Toronto Jew of a certain age (who still goes to see Dead cover bands featuring friends from high school), it's remarkable how familiar our cultural influences are. Jews who love jambands is a thing! Something else that stood out for me in this conversation is how unacknowledged privilege plays a role in M's story; it's in his access to treatment (rather than incarceration), being able to flow in and out of school and jobs and home(s), and in his liberty to wear dreads and appropriate musical styles without the backlash that racialized people would face.

Thanks Mayim. Loved this one. Wish I could have joined in on the conversation. I know Matis from his connection in Philadelphia. He's a lot younger, but if he's interested, let him know we could learn together. Not to snub you, but if you also have interest in learning, I would be open to trying something with you too.
And just to build on the gematria you pointed out at the end of the show, his upcoming 34 (לד) shows, all on one theme, meaning his new album, is 35 (לה, for her). Like the Ba'al Shem Tov emphasizes in regard to his Kavanot for the Mikvah (which must be filled with 40 se'ah of water (מים) to be valid, and able to serve its purpose), this pertains to renewal, birth and the potential for new life (אלד) and is the "Roshei-Teivot" from the phrase we say at the beginning of the Amidah prayer (אתה גבור לעולם אדני), meaning אגל״א. Only blessings.

The Zohar parsha B’har discuses this partnership. It says that the almighty is almost like half of himself without ‘ his people.when I was in 20 i visited Tzfat. This mystical character showed me a fire, water. He swirled his finger and created this strong wind and then showed me that his fingers were sifting earth. I said to myself no one will believe this and I wasn’t sure if this is for real. I asked him to bring down the fire again i quickly reached for a Marlboro and lit it with this fire and he was very upset at me. He said you’re not allowed to use this fire. I told him that no one will limit me to use any of these elements of the physicality. The way Matisyahu explains his dream with the elements are exactly what this mysterious individual named pinchos had taught me.
Mayim is water, one of the elements, but Matisyahu relates to Fire and Water

Matisyahu was born a Cancer zodiac sign. So many Cancers I know abandon direction they had for a long time. On the flip side he is annoying as hell and it sounds like he is forcing all his spirituality. Which goes to show that just because someone is exception at one on thing doesn’t mean they are exceptional or know anything about anything. He looks and sounds completely lost and I’m not saying that because of his religious beliefs.
