    I'm completely new to knitting machines, so a ribber looks like magic to me. Your captions are highly entertaining 😀

    My aun and my friend's mum had a knitting machine that looks like that, almost 50 years ago. I was kind of jealous because I thought it was so much faster and easier (I later learned it was not true) and it could do cleverer things than I ever saw most people do when knitting by hand. My aunt hardly ever used the ribber, I don't think she liked it... and yes, the machine got stuck regularly. But the end result was nice, though you could *almost* always tell the difference between hand and machine knitting: hand knitted garment is rarely so even whereas a machine knitted one has impeccably even stitches. I would say that machine knitted garments are like music performed by a machine: perfectly in time but no soul.
    I wanted to make jumpers like everyone else, but I never managed to knit a potholder, and my teacher finally gave up on me.

      It's definitely been more of a learning curve than I expected. I'm still hoping to knit something cool on it. Let me know if you remember any tips!

    It's like you made a video of my exact experience. lol The ending was the same too!! HA. Friggin knitting machines! It's like knitting, without any of the relaxation and stress relief! FRIG! I was so pulling for you. I really wanted a happy ending so that I might believe I could have one too, but as with any new skill, the realskill is actually in the trouble shooting. Have you tried your hand at any of the sock knitting machines or Sentro/ Addi?

    Looks so good! You're getting there. Did you fix it by giving it more tension instead of setting it at zero? Also would it be easier to pull it off and finish the ends by hand or did it get easier once you figured it out? 💋

    • @kinsey4309
      @kinsey4309  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes I set the tension to 3.5 rather than 0. Right now it seems easiest to pull it off and finish by hand. Im sure it will be easier to do on the machine once I learn more!

      I really liked playing with it, and it would be worth the trouble if our machine was in better condition!

    Hi there! I have the same machine and ribber, I’m hoping you can help me!
    I’ve just attached the ribber for the first time today but I’m having some issues.
    I’ve followed along with the instructions in the manual but when I try to run the carriage over for the first row, before I’ve even cast on, it gets stuck!

    • @kinsey4309
      @kinsey4309  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not sure how helpful I can be. I guess it would depend in where it's getting stuck. Does the carriage move at all? Is the ribber raised all the way up?

    • @georgiaaarose
      @georgiaaarose 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kinsey4309 thanks for the reply!
      So I can move the main carriage freely and the ribber carriage freely but when I connect them together, that seems to be the problem.
      I only had about 10 needles pushed out as I wanted to try a small sample. I can move the carriage to the right, to the selected needles but once it’s sitting over them it gets stuck.
      There is lever/button on the silver part that connects both carriages that can be moved from O to S. When I have that set to O is when it jams. If I set it to S, it will move nicely over the needles. However in the manual, for basic 1x1 rib, it’s supposed to be set to the O.
      I think it must be something simple that I’ve overlooked! Thanks for your help though!
