Blood brothers isn't their signature sound per se, beings as theyve never had a signature sound, they explore every facet of power metal, folk metal, speed metal and thrash

    • @Loki_Firegod
      @Loki_Firegod 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Well you could say that their signature sound is that very melodic, guitar-centered music. And at least since the return of the Bruce, they've had that certain Maiden-ness about them, with the very progressive-ish music, triple lead guitars and obviously, Bruce's voice (which I admit is their signature only for the times he's been with the band, obviously).
I agree that it's hard to put forth a "quintessential" Iron Maiden song, because they've evolved so much over the years, but propably something off of Seventh Son would be pretty good as a representation. Then again, Number of the Beast and Fear of the Dark are propably their most-listened-to songs (and Hallowed Be Thy Name), so perhaps either of those three would serve as well?

Yes, finally down to masters of storytelling 😀
Now that's quite an odd choice to start with, but ain't easy to pick a song from a 40+ years catalog 😂
Group was formed in 1975 and first album released in 1980, not power ballad at all, had a heavy sound !
    Some recs:
Hallowed be thy name live 1982.
Fear of the dark or sign of the cross or The Clansman from Rock in Rio (never bad to pick that Rock in Rio 2001)
Phantom of the Opera live download festival 2013.
But there are so many songs to recommend, hope you'll enjoy them 😉
Edit: have to add my bias here saying that Bruce Dickinson is one of the best singers I've heard, Steve Harris is a beast on bass, Nicko McBrain on drums is really interesting and funny guy (and single bass pedal player), Dave Murray, Adrian Smith and Janick Gers on guitar are good too (yes, they're with 3 guitarists since 1999 when Adrian and Bruce came back to the band) 😀

Fear of the Dark, Run for the Hills, The Trooper, Two Minutes to Midnight, and Aces High are their biggest songs. Steve Harris, their bass player, and Bruce Dickinson, the lead singer, are their main lyricists. Harris writes his songs mostly about nightmares he's had, and Bruce mostly writes about historical wars and stuff.

'The Iron Maiden'was actually a nickname for Margaret Thatcher( Prime Minister of the UK during the 80s) referring to hear strength of will and no BS attitude. The Guys named the Band after her because of their political views of the time, hence Iron Maiden.
Also The Iron Maiden torture device wasn't real but an artists sculpture of a torture device, I only found that out recently by doing research on European history. There is a video on TH-cam somewhere about this too. (Edit-th-cam.com/video/wVOk7dDwVjw/w-d-xo.html. Historical context of the Iron Maiden Torture device)
Also the picking tone is a characteristic of an electric guitar on chorus setting.
As a longtime Maiden Fan I recommend 'Dance Of Death' for one of their later songs and 'Powerslave' for one of the earlier 80s songs.

    • @williegotland
      @williegotland 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Thatcher's nickname was 'Iron Lady'. The band has nothing up with her political views. On the contrary. That the band was named after the torture device is much more likely.

Holy shit. You’ve opened Pandora’s Box now. Iron Maiden pioneered power metal as part of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. This is actually an odd song to be introduced to them. It’s one of their mid-career songs (2000) and a more melodic and mellow one compared to many others. It is a good thing to show their range and diversity. A more classic ballad-ish song is Fear of the Dark (Live in Rio).
Now you gotta do a classic, rocking masterpiece, of which there are many: Number of the Beast, Hallowed Be Thy Name, Run to the Hills, Powerslave, The Trooper, Wasted Years, Seventh Son of Seventh Son, Somewhere in Time, Two Minutes to Midnight, The Clairvoyant... so many.
My personal favorite is Aces High, a song about the Battle of Britain that makes you feel like you were there. I can’t wait to see you guys react to more Maiden. Up the irons!
P.S. The primary singer, Bruce Dickinson, is arguably one of the greatest vocalists ever, right up there with Rob Halford and Ronnie James Dio.

They got so many great songs it’s hard to pick one as their greatest, many like Hallowed Be Thy Name, Rhyme Of The Ancient Mariner, I would suggest one of those two for your next reaction. Up the irons!

Iron maiden is my all time favourite band, I've had the pleasure of seeing them live and it's honestly the best moment of my life so far, even after beating throat cancer Bruce is still rocking it with the best of them. Also just to clarify, the mayflower was in 1620.

Blood Brothers was written by the bassist after his father abruptly died while on tour so he had no knowledge of this until someone offhandedly mentioned it to him.
To Tame A Land is based off the book DUNE, and even called that, but Frank Herbert hated heavy metal so Iron Maiden changed the title. Give that one a listen, it's one of their best 80s tracks.

As I have said in the past.. Iron Maiden is one of those few bands where you can print out a copy of the song titles for every song they have ever released.. pin it to a wall and throw a dart at the list. No matter which song the dart hits.. it will be a great song.

Anything from 2001 Rock in Rio show from them is awesome. I was at that show and was the only time I've seen them out of the states. Haven't missed a U.S. show since they first started touring here. (Age Check...). Last time I saw them was on Sept. Friday the 13th, 2019 in Las Vegas and again on the 14th in Los Angeles. Been a fan from day one. ✌🤘

This is a great song but I would not suggest it to showcase the band. You need to hear Hallowed be Thy Name, Powerslave, Caught Somewhere in Time, or To Tame a Land. The instrumentation is amazing and the guitar harmonies and solos are epic.

  • @ryanandyoutube

Adrian had quit Maiden in late '89 I believe, around that time and leading into '90 Bruce was doing some solo stuff. Janick was doing guitars for Bruce's projects and by knowing Bruce Janick got into Maiden and replaced Adrian. Janick joined in early '90 and has been in since. Bruce quit Maiden in '94 but he and Adrian rejoined together in '99, Bruce being away 5 years and Adrian 10 years. Bruce had said if Adrian didn't rejoin then he wouldn't have, so since '99 Maiden has had 3 guitarists. Also Michael McBrain, most known to be Nicko McBrain replaced Clive Burr on drums in '83 and has been the drummer since. Nicko was Maiden's drinking buddy and was in a French band called Trust.

The Maiden song with the most views is their live 1982 performance of Hallowed By Thy Name. I don't usually agree with the "most views" criterion, but I do in this case.

You wanna react to MAIDEN Check out "Phantom of the Opera" from their first Album IRON MAIDEN IRON MAIDEN ..With singer Paul Di'Anno,IRON MAIDEN RAW before the refining. Here Is a link..
    th-cam.com/video/t5jaRipA5_M/w-d-xo.html
What you just listened to,"Blood Brothers" is Maiden much later in their career, this is not the sound that made them who they are ...Start at the beginning then progress through the years....after "Phantom" Check out "Killers" then Bruce takes over Vocals
More great songs with Bruce Dickenson on vocals"Hallowed be thy Name", "Where Eagles Dare", "Revelations" ,then the Iconic "Rime of the Ancient Mariner"

Well, to answer your question, I’d say it’s one of their slower more ballad like songs on THAT album which was released in the 2000’s (can’t remember exactly).
As far as whether it’s a good entry into maiden I’d actually say yes. Old school fans may disagree with me on that one and say number of the beast or fear of the dark. Maiden always sounds like maiden. Nobody like em. You’ll end up diggin them as much as Tool if you give em a chance. My favorite song from the same album as blood brothers is the thin line between love and hate (or nomad...)
    Great react as always \m/

As a fellow lover of Tool (how I found your channel many months ago), you need to check out: Tesseract - Of Matter Proxy
Believe me you won’t be disappointed. Clearly Tool inspired, and utterly awesome.
Also, want something completely different, and a new mini series? React to Tim Minchin’s back catalogue. Maybe start with “inflatable you”. Now that would be a series I’d watch as religiously as Tool Tuesdays!

This entire album is fire. I was a huge Iron Maiden fan in the 80’s. When Bruce left I stopped listening. I didn't hear this album until 2010. I went to see Iron Maiden in concert and they played this song.....i had never heard it. I was hooked. This whole album is classic Iron Maiden.

As far as Iron maiden sounds go, they had four stages to their career...
Early days, (78-82) with their original singer: fast, funky and aggressive.
Mid career, (83-92) with the classic lineup: raw, dark and experimental. (Most maiden fans only listen to these).
Hiatus years (93-99) with a replacement singer and guitarist: epic, big, but not well produced.
Layer years (00-20) with the best lineup and Bruce returns: very much like Blood brothers, with a lot of polish. - personally my favourites are mostly from these 6 records...
