Complete 3-Day Itinerary for Lava Kalimpong:
Day1: NJP railway station to LAVA via Gorubathan. Some tourist spot like Ambiok Tea Estate and Chel River can be explored on the way to Lava.

Day2: On the second day of sightseeing in Lava, start by visiting Changey Falls, the highest waterfall in West Bengal. After exploring Kolakham village, return to Lava for lunch. Post-lunch, you can visit Gumbadara Monastery, Nokdara Boating Lake, and Lava Eco Park. Stay at Lava as usual.
Day3: On the third day, one can walk to visit Lava Eco Park and Lava Monastery once again. Afterward, have lunch, check out from the hotel, and return to NJP Railway Station by car by evening. Then, board the night train from NJP to arrive in Kolkata by the next morning.
How to reach Lava from Kolkata?
The best way to travel from Kolkata to Lava is by train. The most frequent trains from Kolkata to New Jalpaiguri Station in Siliguri depart from Sealdah Station in Kolkata. However, there are also several trains available from Howrah, Kolkata (Chitpur), and Dankuni stations to reach New Jalpaiguri.
To reach Lava, you must first arrive at either New Jalpaiguri (NJP) or New Mal Junction railway stations from any of Kolkata’s stations. However, trains to New Mal Junction are very limited, so the best option is to travel to NJP (New Jalpaiguri).
From New Jalpaiguri, you can hire a private vehicle or take a bus from Siliguri’s PC Mittal Bus Stand to Lava. However, buses on this route are infrequent, so hiring a car directly to Lava is the most convenient option. Though slightly more expensive, it saves time and reduces hassle significantly.
Alternatively, you can take a bus from Siliguri’s Tenzing Norgay Bus Stand to Kalimpong first, and then take a shared vehicle from Kalimpong to Lava. However, this route involves a longer, roundabout journey with multiple stops. While it may save some money, it takes considerably more time to reach Lava this way.

There are plenty of hotels and homestays available for staying in Lava. Since it isn’t crowded year-round, hotels or homestays are mostly vacant and easy to find. However, during holidays or vacation seasons, it’s better to book hotels in advance.
Hotel prices in Lava generally range from ₹800 to ₹2,500. The rates fluctuate depending on the hotel’s standard and the tourist season.
