Man i am very disappointed with myself. Started mostly with Nintendo consoles from the beginning (NES, N64, GC, DS, Wii.) Had a ps2 and ps1 as well but not many games. Got into Xbox sadly. I think ps3&4 would have been the way to go for me. Now's the time, PS5 here I come mang.
I'm 42 yrs old and I still remember buying the PS1 in 1997 in a store called Future Shop, then I bought the PS2 at Target Store, then PS3 at Target Store, PS4 at Wal-Mart, PS4 Pro from Amazon and now I'm waiting for the PS5.
My first consoles was the commodore 64 and nes. I still have all of my old consoles and all the ps consoles. Including the pro and the wii/wii u and xb1 forza edition
The success also goes to Sony in general allowing their studios full reign on their games. Crazy to think the latest god of war almost didn't happen and the executive decided to give Barlog and his team a chance..
Funny thing is that Sony was going to do the same thing but backed out after Microsoft was ridiculed, World Wide studios president admitted it in an interview.
If it failed ,it might have been the last traditional console we ever got . PS4's success has secured the existence of PS5 and perhaps further future hardware as well as the existence of expensive triple A releases. If it failed , we would probably be condemned to cheap mobile games made for the huge masses owning phones and not caring about cutting edge graphics/serious gaming experiences and shitty F2P games full of microtransactions . So its important that all of us move into nextgen and convince our friends to do so to . That way we will ensure a bright future of nextgen after nextgen of graphical and gaming greatness .
Nah, I think it's more likely that a lot of third party devs (especially Japanese) would've returned to Nintendo. They were all there to begin with but there was a mass exodus to Sony when Nintendo switched to cartridges for the N64.

What? Lol PS3 did SO much more than PS4 in media playing. PS4 doesn't even support as many video files as PS3 once they finally introduce the feature, not to mention you can't store any files on the system itself. I legit got my third ps3 (used and cheap) last year just to have another multimedia / different region BD player. PS3 is just so... perfect.

Yeah, I honestly liked the PS3 generation better. My favorite PS3 is the 80gb CECHE01, because I can play PS1-PS3 games on it, not just one generation like the PS4. The PS3 also had alot more features (as well as better audio) than the PS4, not to mention free online multiplayer. I still play my PS3 today and enjoy every second of it.
Same here, this will be my first time i get a console at launch. Im willing to deal with all the bugs or whatever that come with that choice. Pretty excited
I can't even imagine what kind of awesome games we'll get with PS5. Look at Ghost of Tsushima and how good it looks and plays on a PS4 with really old and slow hardware. Now imagine games like GoT on PS5...

This is the generation that brought me back to consoles... ps4 pro pretty much turned console as my main gaming system complimented by switch and my gaming pc.
The PS2 was my first PlayStation, and I will always remember it for establishing why the brand is my favorite gaming platform. Unique, must-have exclusive experiences that coaxed me away and convinced me to trade my Xbox for a PS2. Plus, it has one of the greatest gaming libraries ever. The PS3 will always be the most nostalgic PlayStation for myself. It was the PlayStation of my preteen and early teenage years. Much like myself, it was the problem child of its family. It also introduced me to some of my all time favorite gaming franchises like Uncharted, The Last of Us, inFamous etc. Not to mention online multiplayer gaming with PSN. The PS3 was...special and unforgettable. The PS4 is my favorite game console of all time. It redefined and amped up all of my favorite exclusive game franchises to new heights (TLOU Part 2, Uncharted 4, GOW) and it introduced brand new high quality exclusives as well (Spider-Man, HZD, GOT etc.) and it even brought back classics that I never got to play that are now beloved to me (FFVII Remake). It also delivered amazing 3rd party support, established great indie support, and it innovated with brand new features (Share Button/Photo Mode etc.) and hardware (PSVR). My biggest regret? Being born at the tail end of the PS1’s lifecycle (late 90’s). Regardless, I’m grateful that I’m alive to see Sony usher in their greatest generation yet with the PS5. #GreatnessAwaits #PlayHasNoLimits
PS4 was my first personal console I got for myself. Honestly if it wasn’t as good as it was all these years, I think I would have just stayed on pc and ignore consoles altogether.
The PS4 gen has been such an amazing journey so many good PS exclusives and so many memories I will remember forever... really gonna miss it but at the same time I'm also really excited to go on a whole new journey with PS5
PS4 really did well after the issues of the PS3 - when your platform is the base platform that all developers want to work on first and foremost, and consumers want those games (creating a positive feedback loop), you know you've hit a winner. Ryan said it well - it has something for everyone. Even those who don't care much for the first party titles have a breadth of third parties across various genres they can play.
I love my ps4, at the time I bought it , it was the console that I owned early in its lifecycle ( bought it almost 2 years after launch with my own money , but I bought my switch 6 months after launch but I don’t really play it much ) and I’ll probably stick with my ps4 for a while as I have about a little over 70 games on my backlog And here are my favorite games on ps4 in no order - dark souls 2 sotfs - nier automata - tales of berseria - god of war - shadow of the colossus remake

I bought my PS4 in April 2020 (for FF7 Remake) and played video games for the first time in nearly 20 years. It was an amazing experience when I grabbed the controller, because the unchanging feel of it reminded me of all the good memories of PS1 era, and I was impressed by how they kept working so hard to improve this industry while I was completely ignorant for 20 years. I remember I bought Sega Saturn first at that time because I was skeptical about how Sony could handle its first console in the game industry. I was wrong. Now I’m playing Sega’s games with PS4 and that’s still weird to me, but it makes me feel that Sony came a long long way. I’m really enjoying playing the games now.
The Order: 1886 was super underrated. The game itself was a bit short (not the 5 hours people seem to tout, its around 10 or so) but it looked fantastic and played great.

I'm actually turning 40 at the same time the PS5 comes out, I've been a gamer for, well, almost 40 years went from Coleco, Atari, NEs, SNES, N64, Playstation, PS2, PS3, PS4 and my current console, PS4 Pro...the road to PS5 is an amazing part of my life
I bought concrete genie a couple months ago because of the box art. It was such a wonderful game, neat vr mode on the side. It’s one my favourite games from the last couple years. My only complaint was that it was a little too short, even though it was like 6 hours long.
I absolutely love the way Melissa goes from a small bite to immediately turning her attention to you, we might not hear it, but there was definitely a "HEY!" there haha
I love my PS4 slim! I was late in the game and didn't get it until January of 2019. But I have enjoyed it and have about 60 physical games for it. Mainly why I waited was I got my first PS3 in 2016 (which is the fat 60gb true backwards compatible, upgraded to a 1tb hard drive) and was enjoying and collecting for that one. And when the Spider-Man bundle came out at a good price. (which I love the box art and it came with the physical game) I had to jump onto the next gen. and get a PS4. I have been a fan since the beginning of PlayStation. And still to this day, the PS2 is my favorite console and the PS2 dual shock is still to me the best controller ever made.
PS4 PlayLink party games are some of our favorite local multiplayer games. You use your tablet or cellphone as the controller and some games go beyond 4 players. We’ve done 6 players at once. I’m not surprised that you didn’t mention those because most of them didn’t come to the US but since PS4 isn’t region locked, I was able to import games from around the world. Definitely worth looking into if you’re interested in party games. Frantics, Melbits World and Chimparty are just a few.

I own ALMOST every consoles since the 6th generation and I've got to say PlayStation 4 is my favorite console of all time let's see what the next gen got for us in the near future
I feel like the end of consoles is the end of mainstream gaming. there are no 30-year-olds with kids who have the time or patience to build a gaming pc, they just want to relax and play 2K with their friends.
PS Now will make more sense to the consumer in a couple of years when it has an additional 100+ PS5 games to download alongside the 300+ PS4 games that we are currently able to download.

I bought my ps4 2 years ago. I had a ps3 for about 12 years. I am glad that I bought the ps4 late in its lift cycle. There are so many good deals out there now, including places like ebay and sales on the psn.
Thanks to the PS4 god of war bundle, my gf didn't know what to get me one Christmas and boom. Fast forward 2 years and I have over 60 PS4 games physical, and I went ahead and got dozens of the retro titles I liked as a kid along with a ps1 and PS2. I missed the PS3 mostly, I had one but stopped caring after god of war 3 and so going back to that too with easily over 30 beautiful games I totally missed out on . I fkn love PlayStation. Hope they keep the momentum
I loved PS3. But I've had some amazing single player experiences on PS4- some games that I got so emotionally invested in that it completely surprised me. I fell away from video games for a while- and Detroit: Become Human sucked me back in. The Last of Us Remastered, Spiderman, Resident Evil 2 and 3 Remake... I can't believe it's been 7 years. I can't wait to see what's in store on PS5!
I can agree with your last point! As someone who missed the ps4 generation, it really doesn't make sense for me to go back and buy a ps4 because I can play everything on ps5 but better! I still really appreciate what the ps4 did for the industry, and I love how you commemorated it all in this video.
PlayStation is simply amazing. Enjoyed the PS4. I’ll try to get a PS5 on my birthday which is on December. Time for me to save maybe $600 just in case so yeah.

PS3 launch felt like the Saturn all over again to me. So much power, but nobody was utilizing it properly. I was in the military when this gen launched. Everyone in the barracks got a 360 on launch. Few people got a PS3, and there just wasn't much out for it at that time that was better than the 360 versions. Move forward say 2yrs...all those 360s had RRd...and Sony was beginning to hit on all cylinders. I finally picked one up when MGS4 came out, the momentum was swaying to Sony at that time. From that point on, it was game on. PS3 had one of the best 2nd ½s I've ever seen. So much momentum on PS4 launch. And I remember getting one and a couple games, and then it was like ok what now for monnnths. I mainly went XBOX for that gen. Not sure exactly why, but I just preferred the feel I guess, and Xbox live. Xbox One X was a big part of it. As well as paying for PS Network. If I'm gonna pay for a service, Live is where it's at. Or was then. They've improved PS Network a lot since then. Not to mention, all the kids had swapped sides from 360 to PS4. The servers were much clearer on XOne at the time lol.
Incredible video. People need to remember that the PS4 saved the Xbox One from being even worse than it already is, stopping Microsoft from putting a higher restriction on used games and how you use your console. Competition is good.
Boosted PS4 games should run beautifully on PS5. 4K60 HDR on most titles - and probably higher fps, maybe 120fps on some titles. They could even be optimized for Ray Tracing!
If it wasn't for the PS4 I would never or I would take many more years to discover one of my favorite franchises ever, Persona. Not even mentioning the many other great exclusive that came out on the PS4, I was very satisfied the entire generation and I'm going for PS5 in this new gen.
I gotta give the PS4 credit for its reliability. It's the only PS console I've never had issues with. Went through 2 PS1 consoles. Regularly had to take my PS2 apart to clean the lens. PS3 was an absolute nightmare and even my third PS3 is on its last legs. My PS4 is a launch model and never had a single problem with it.
I just hope the PS5 is not too pricey. I missed the PS4 era but I am ready to catch with all the games thanks to back compact. Hope they keep improving on that.

I remember back in like 2014-15 when I didn’t know what PlayStation was and I was just playing single player Minecraft on the 360, then I got my PS4 and everything changed with me and my friends started playing on line and the years of fun we had. I loved this generation and I cant wait for the next one
Very good video! I personally think PS4 won't be forgotten, because the breadth and quality of games is so phenomenal. Id say that PS4 games got more emotional reactions from me than any other system. Except of course for the intro to The Last of Us on PS3 but who can argue with that.

This is the generation that brought me back to consoles... ps4 pro pretty much turned console as my main gaming system complimented by switch and my gaming pc.
Was an amazing generation. Many memories. Many good games
The PS2 was my first PlayStation, and I will always remember it for establishing why the brand is my favorite gaming platform. Unique, must-have exclusive experiences that coaxed me away and convinced me to trade my Xbox for a PS2. Plus, it has one of the greatest gaming libraries ever.
The PS3 will always be the most nostalgic PlayStation for myself. It was the PlayStation of my preteen and early teenage years. Much like myself, it was the problem child of its family. It also introduced me to some of my all time favorite gaming franchises like Uncharted, The Last of Us, inFamous etc. Not to mention online multiplayer gaming with PSN. The PS3 was...special and unforgettable.
The PS4 is my favorite game console of all time. It redefined and amped up all of my favorite exclusive game franchises to new heights (TLOU Part 2, Uncharted 4, GOW) and it introduced brand new high quality exclusives as well (Spider-Man, HZD, GOT etc.) and it even brought back classics that I never got to play that are now beloved to me (FFVII Remake). It also delivered amazing 3rd party support, established great indie support, and it innovated with brand new features (Share Button/Photo Mode etc.) and hardware (PSVR).
My biggest regret? Being born at the tail end of the PS1’s lifecycle (late 90’s). Regardless, I’m grateful that I’m alive to see Sony usher in their greatest generation yet with the PS5. #GreatnessAwaits #PlayHasNoLimits
PS4 was my first personal console I got for myself. Honestly if it wasn’t as good as it was all these years, I think I would have just stayed on pc and ignore consoles altogether.
The PS4 gen has been such an amazing journey so many good PS exclusives and so many memories I will remember forever... really gonna miss it but at the same time I'm also really excited to go on a whole new journey with PS5
November 2013 seemed almost like literally yesterday
PS4 really did well after the issues of the PS3 - when your platform is the base platform that all developers want to work on first and foremost, and consumers want those games (creating a positive feedback loop), you know you've hit a winner. Ryan said it well - it has something for everyone. Even those who don't care much for the first party titles have a breadth of third parties across various genres they can play.
I love my ps4, at the time I bought it , it was the console that I owned early in its lifecycle ( bought it almost 2 years after launch with my own money , but I bought my switch 6 months after launch but I don’t really play it much ) and I’ll probably stick with my ps4 for a while as I have about a little over 70 games on my backlog

- shadow of the colossus remake

The PS5 era
I bought my PS4 in April 2020 (for FF7 Remake) and played video games for the first time in nearly 20 years. It was an amazing experience when I grabbed the controller, because the unchanging feel of it reminded me of all the good memories of PS1 era, and I was impressed by how they kept working so hard to improve this industry while I was completely ignorant for 20 years. I remember I bought Sega Saturn first at that time because I was skeptical about how Sony could handle its first console in the game industry. I was wrong. Now I’m playing Sega’s games with PS4 and that’s still weird to me, but it makes me feel that Sony came a long long way. I’m really enjoying playing the games now.

The Order: 1886 was super underrated. The game itself was a bit short (not the 5 hours people seem to tout, its around 10 or so) but it looked fantastic and played great.
I was expecting an entire half of the game to be about Sir Gallahad's excommunication.
@BONES story was fine. I didn't think it was boring. The shooting was good and the gun variety was neat.

I bought concrete genie a couple months ago because of the box art. It was such a wonderful game, neat vr mode on the side. It’s one my favourite games from the last couple years. My only complaint was that it was a little too short, even though it was like 6 hours long.
I've only experienced the PS2 and PS4. This is genuinely my favourite generation so far.

I love my PS4 slim! I was late in the game and didn't get it until January of 2019. But I have enjoyed it and have about 60 physical games for it. Mainly why I waited was I got my first PS3 in 2016 (which is the fat 60gb true backwards compatible, upgraded to a 1tb hard drive) and was enjoying and collecting for that one. And when the Spider-Man bundle came out at a good price. (which I love the box art and it came with the physical game) I had to jump onto the next gen. and get a PS4. I have been a fan since the beginning of PlayStation. And still to this day, the PS2 is my favorite console and the PS2 dual shock is still to me the best controller ever made.
Still to this day my fav ever will be the ps1 for nostalgic reasons

About 3-4 years ago I would've said that the ps4 gen was boring. But now, I'll say its amazing - Ive had so many great memories with this console!
I jumped from PS1 to PC and now with PS5 jumped back to console. I have so many great exclusives from PS4 and PS3 era to catch up with now.
PS4 PlayLink party games are some of our favorite local multiplayer games. You use your tablet or cellphone as the controller and some games go beyond 4 players. We’ve done 6 players at once. I’m not surprised that you didn’t mention those because most of them didn’t come to the US but since PS4 isn’t region locked, I was able to import games from around the world. Definitely worth looking into if you’re interested in party games. Frantics, Melbits World and Chimparty are just a few.

I feel like the end of consoles is the end of mainstream gaming. there are no 30-year-olds with kids who have the time or patience to build a gaming pc, they just want to relax and play 2K with their friends.
PS Now will make more sense to the consumer in a couple of years when it has an additional 100+ PS5 games to download alongside the 300+ PS4 games that we are currently able to download.

I bought my ps4 2 years ago. I had a ps3 for about 12 years. I am glad that I bought the ps4 late in its lift cycle. There are so many good deals out there now, including places like ebay and sales on the psn.

Thanks to the PS4 god of war bundle, my gf didn't know what to get me one Christmas and boom. Fast forward 2 years and I have over 60 PS4 games physical, and I went ahead and got dozens of the retro titles I liked as a kid along with a ps1 and PS2. I missed the PS3 mostly, I had one but stopped caring after god of war 3 and so going back to that too with easily over 30 beautiful games I totally missed out on . I fkn love PlayStation. Hope they keep the momentum
I think 7 years is a good life cycle for consoles... 1 entrance year, 5 main prime years and 1 exit year.
I loved PS3. But I've had some amazing single player experiences on PS4- some games that I got so emotionally invested in that it completely surprised me. I fell away from video games for a while- and Detroit: Become Human sucked me back in. The Last of Us Remastered, Spiderman, Resident Evil 2 and 3 Remake... I can't believe it's been 7 years. I can't wait to see what's in store on PS5!

PS3 launch felt like the Saturn all over again to me. So much power, but nobody was utilizing it properly. I was in the military when this gen launched. Everyone in the barracks got a 360 on launch. Few people got a PS3, and there just wasn't much out for it at that time that was better than the 360 versions. Move forward say 2yrs...all those 360s had RRd...and Sony was beginning to hit on all cylinders. I finally picked one up when MGS4 came out, the momentum was swaying to Sony at that time. From that point on, it was game on. PS3 had one of the best 2nd ½s I've ever seen. So much momentum on PS4 launch. And I remember getting one and a couple games, and then it was like ok what now for monnnths. I mainly went XBOX for that gen. Not sure exactly why, but I just preferred the feel I guess, and Xbox live. Xbox One X was a big part of it. As well as paying for PS Network. If I'm gonna pay for a service, Live is where it's at. Or was then. They've improved PS Network a lot since then. Not to mention, all the kids had swapped sides from 360 to PS4. The servers were much clearer on XOne at the time lol.
I really love the ps4 and over all these years i haven't even scratched the surface of this library. It will live on through ps5 with me
PS4 is one of the best consoles of all time.

Incredible video. People need to remember that the PS4 saved the Xbox One from being even worse than it already is, stopping Microsoft from putting a higher restriction on used games and how you use your console. Competition is good.

Boosted PS4 games should run beautifully on PS5. 4K60 HDR on most titles - and probably higher fps, maybe 120fps on some titles. They could even be optimized for Ray Tracing!
If it wasn't for the PS4 I would never or I would take many more years to discover one of my favorite franchises ever, Persona. Not even mentioning the many other great exclusive that came out on the PS4, I was very satisfied the entire generation and I'm going for PS5 in this new gen.

I gotta give the PS4 credit for its reliability. It's the only PS console I've never had issues with. Went through 2 PS1 consoles. Regularly had to take my PS2 apart to clean the lens. PS3 was an absolute nightmare and even my third PS3 is on its last legs. My PS4 is a launch model and never had a single problem with it.
I just hope the PS5 is not too pricey. I missed the PS4 era but I am ready to catch with all the games thanks to back compact. Hope they keep improving on that.

I remember back in like 2014-15 when I didn’t know what PlayStation was and I was just playing single player Minecraft on the 360, then I got my PS4 and everything changed with me and my friends started playing on line and the years of fun we had. I loved this generation and I cant wait for the next one

Very good video! I personally think PS4 won't be forgotten, because the breadth and quality of games is so phenomenal. Id say that PS4 games got more emotional reactions from me than any other system. Except of course for the intro to The Last of Us on PS3 but who can argue with that.
