    Quantity Surveying has a lot in common with Accounting, - lots of paperwork and you have to be good with numbers, calculations and estimating. Accuracy is critical because you are dealing with cost, expenditure and finances.

    Thank you for sharing Nothando. What I like about QS is that, one is constantly learning on Construction site, its never a dull moment. ✨🤞🏾🙂

    Thank you for sharing Nothando! I agree with you I enjoy the interaction with subcontractors (especially the part where I negotiate for better rates or discounts 🙈😅) and the whole procurement process, I enjoy tendering too and ensuring the legal side of things are good, I enjoy doing the fee calculations, PROCSAs - the whole thing. 😂 There is actually very little that I don’t enjoy about our profession. I consider myself blessed. 🙏🏾

      Discounts!!! Yes I live for those! 😂❤️
      You are indeed blessed! It takes a good company, a good manager and just a good combination of work to get where you are so you're extremely lucky!

    Our profession is very versatile. I have worked in a consultant firm and also in a construction firm, I have taken up roles like Project Cordinator, Project Manager, Procurement Manager and so on. It's always exciting just that the pay is not very encouraging especially when u are just starting out. Have u heard about Lean Construction? It's something I am very interested in these days, I see it as the solution to many problems that customers (client, contractors and stakeholders) face in the construction industry.

    Since you're saying qs is broad, you can work as a quantity surveyor literally anywhere? Not necessarily at the building industry? Like for instance, you can be a qs at a bank, or home affairs etc?

    • @NothandoMoloi
      @NothandoMoloi  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you can ! Mining , Engineering, Consulting, I’m not sure about home affairs, it needs to be Construction related

    Sis I know this might be an everyday question but allow me to ask. How are there job opportunities in the market, is it still safe for students to pursue careers like QS

    • @NothandoMoloi
      @NothandoMoloi  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey , it's just like any career , nothing Is guaranteed especially with the high unemployment rate in SA. So I'd always advice students to pursue more digital/ software careers. Since everything is online now.

      It takes a while to build....but I think I can finally say I do , for now 😅. You also realise it's not everything if you're in a toxic environment...so I try not to make it my only goal... You can't put a price on your sanity
