Okay, so, because I am going through the steps to make this myself, I thought I would make a list from what I understand after watching this video and reading the comments below. These seem to be the list of materials needed:
~ Four MDF boards (Check out Home Depot or Lowe's: they should have it)
~ At least six hinges (make it a total of 8 if you do that connector strip in the middle of the boards, which is also something to consider for how much MDF you want to buy)
~ Staples option of parchment paper prints using @RealmSmith 's links as the images to be printed.
    ~ Black craft foam
    ~ Regular paper towel
    ~ Mod Podge
    ~ Foam brush
~ Matt Sealant (paint coat that makes the final product not so glossy, or shiny, in other words)
~ Strips of duct metal (exact measurements and amounts were lost in the footage)
    ~ E6 Thousand glue
    ~ Ceramcoat Black Acrylic paint
~ American Acrylic Paint (Cranberry Wine)
~ Deco Art Crafter's Acrylic paint (Deep Red)
~ Stud fasteners (all in a bag)
    ~ Crafting shears
~ Glue gun and glue for this glue gun
    ~ Art Minds Suede Strips
~ Buckle (can be found at a craft store)
    ~ Leather hole puncher
    ~ Rivets
    ~ Washers
    ~ Rivet gun
    ~ Pen vice
    ~ Crazy glue
    ~ Embellishment (Michaels {crafting store})
    ~ Dragon eyes (Michaels)
    ~ Craft magnets
Because the footage was lost, unfortunately so were the measurements for the MDF Boards, which stands for Medium Density Fiberboards (I didn't know that before, but you know... google XD). After starting on this project and reading through the comments, it seems the measurements for these boards are "Just a touch larger than 8.5x11" as according to @RealmSmith 's recommendations ^_ ^. I hope this was helpful to everyone else and good luck! Thanks again to @RealmSmith for his awesome video and EPIC designer skills! I am excited to try it!

Paint with microscopic metal bits will never hold a magnet as well as a very thin sheet of steel.
I get the super the metal sheet from $2 magnetic whiteboards. Its barely smaller than a sheet of standard copy paper (in USA)
this makes an outstanding magnetic surface that works with both wet erase and dry erase markers. Affix to the foam board and you have a stiff and versatile DM screen panel.
I'm doing double sided with magnetic panels in 3D printed frames. I can instantly change the art on the player side t match the current adventure area. I can also have exactly what I need for the current adventure on my DM side of the screen.

What dimensions did you use for the center binding strip that joins the 2 inner panels...looks like about 1" or so? Any recommendations for the hinge size? Thanks so much for putting this up...it's just about exactly what I was looking for!

    • @RealmSmith
      @RealmSmith  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

not sure of the exact size but its about a quarter of an inch larger than 8.5x11. In retrospect, I would have used full top to bottom bifold hinges I think. These are getting a little loose.

I followed this video to make mine and it looks exactly like it so maybe I can answer that. The paper towel is the raised bits. Dipping it in water and scrunching it up really helps and makes it look great. The foam is very flat.

Outstanding work my northern friend! Your GM screen is one of the best I have ever seen. I had to laugh though. As a Leathersmith, when you broke out the old school rivets I had to cringe until I saw that you were covering them with dots. It turned out great! I may be making my screen to look like yours.

I’d to see what you come up with!

    • @emilylindstrom724
      @emilylindstrom724 6 ปีที่แล้ว

Yeah, that made me cringe too.. if you had used leather working rivets the backs would be flatter and the tops would already be round and pretty. You can get them in gold tone too. Tandy Leather has them, can likely also find them at the craft store in the leather working section. Just have to make sure you get the right length for the thickness of material you're going through. If they're too short they don't work, if they're too long they'll kinda sheer off to one side when you hammer them together. (Van broke down on the way to a reenactment event one time.. middle of no where, but I had my emergency leather working kit with me.. fixed a broken fan belt with those rivets, not joking.)

So inspired! Started ours tonight - I used black craft foam, and instead of paper towel, using black tissue paper - seems to be working well, though may need an extra coat of Mod Podge for resistance - a bit concerned about it ripping. Adding extra tissue paper on the edges and corners to build it up. Will see how firm it feels after it dries overnight with two coats of MP, then may add another. If it still seems too delicate, might consider another top of topcoat like polyacrylic. Excited to get to the finishing part, as they look great already! The tissue paper wrinkles awesomely. Didn't even wet it first.

Nice video, but it is a tutorial, so using abbreviations without explanation is a bit annoying. Google says, MDF stands for Medium density fiberboard. Not everyone knows what you know.

Honestly, we used it so much growing up, I didn’t even know what the acronym meant until captcorajus commented 🤪

Didn’t take much for me to google mdf board. Your comment here about him not explaining what mdf board is, is laughable.

What is Mod Podge and who is Michael?..

modge podge is basically a watered down graft glue. Depending where you buy it from, it can get a little pricey, but if you don't mind a homebrew batch,.. 1cup of craft glue (or woodwork glue) to 1/3 cup of water. Shake the flip out of it in a jar with an airtight lid and mix it all together. Will set you back a few bucks
