Great reaction! Japanese metal is the best metal. Check out Nemophila’s song Dissension for something super heavy. I also suggest Lovebites, that are astounding. Try their song Holy War to start

Ok, I promised we would drop more Japanese bands on you if you showed interest, and that you have, so here goes!
Japan has had an active all-girl metal scene since at least 1981. This is a starter list of all-female (or in seven cases, mixed, female-led) metal, punk, hard-rock and post-rock bands, with founding dates where I know them. It's alphabetical, except for the first three, which are at the top of the list for historical reasons. They set the table for the explosion of Japanese female hard-rock, punk and metal bands. Note: I have deliberately picked clips that are reactor-friendly because they are high quality and are representative of the band's style. Besides Nemophila and Hanabie, you will probably get lots of requests for Band-Maid, Babymetal, Lovebites and Unlucky Morpheus. You can't go wrong with any of those, but all the bands on this list deserve some love, if you can find the time.
(Note, if you find a bad link, please let me know by replying to this comment, thank you.)
Show-Ya (1981 The original female J-metal band, founded before Metallica-this is from their 24th (!) anniversary concert-and they are still touring): th-cam.com/video/oJ_5Gv3vFjQ/w-d-xo.html
Shonen Knife (1981 The world’s first bubblegum punk band. They have done several world tours. They also perform as a Ramones tribute band called Osaka Ramones): th-cam.com/video/w9LUlYzOiWs/w-d-xo.html

There are many more (others that come to mind are BRATS, Drop’s, Stereopony, Scandal, Princess Princess, which all tend more in the pop direction, and the Bang-Dream projects, which are live groups based on Manga series. Thanks for getting on this so soon! This is one of the bands to watch, no question. They just started in 2019 and are blowing up fast. As you can see, they don't take themselves too seriously. They almost seem to be enjoying a private joke, that goes "Hi, we're a bunch of cute, fun girls and we are going to rip your face off, and you are going to like it.”
Nemophil-a (you pronounced it pretty much right) were founded in 2019. They are a supergroup composed of:
    Mary's Blood guitarist Saki
    ex-Lipstick vocalist Mayu
ex-Disqualia guitarist Hazuki (also plays with Lisa-X)
    ex-Hölderlins bassist Haraguchi-san, and
ex-Soramimi drummer Muratatam (also does other projects)
Initially, they were just a side project, co-organized Mayu with some help from Saki. They started off posting metal covers of well-known rock, pop and metal songs. Then they began posting originals, starting with “Oiran” which you just watched.
The viral reaction seems to have convinced them they were onto something potentially big, so they’ve been putting a lot more work into it, including some successful live-streams and an appearance at the annual Japanese female rock festival NAONのYAON. They tend toward hard and heavy, but also do ballads and some pop covers. Drummer Murata Tamu took time off to give birth to her son, and on her return, the rest of the bandmembers gave her a welcome back that resulted in an extremely moving moment captured on live stream: “Life” th-cam.com/video/HFnEYhbEAqg/w-d-xo.html
After Oiran, others to check include "Dissension", which will fry whatever is left of your circuits: th-cam.com/video/26aMuahxz8c/w-d-xo.html and “Raitei”, which means “Thunder” in Japanese, and yes, they bring the thunder: th-cam.com/video/lh-dVLKP314/w-d-xo.html
Saki is the only one who had been with a breakout band before (Mary’s Blood); Hazuki and Murata-tamu are also considered elite musicians and have worked with a lot of other top artists. Murata-tamu is an accomplished fusion drummer as well. Hara-san (B) is the youngest but is clearly a great talent and has been developing in front of our eyes. And of course Mayu is quickly establishing herself as a metal monster.

Oiran lyrics as translated into English by SAKI (the red haired guitarist) from the liner notes of their CD "Oiran Extended Edition":
    No one can stopping me!!
So, leave it to me now!!
    We can do anything!!
Sing! Dance! Soiya, soiya, soiya, soiya!
A single flower clad in crimson
Swaying gently in the hazy capital
A picture of elegance anyone would envy
    "Come here to me"
Are you ready? You are cherry? GO!!!
Further, further, soar up on high, more graceful than fleeting
Madly, madly, madly bloom, more beautifully than any other
The stir of the whirling wind blows through my hair
I surrender myself to those words, spellbound by a brief moment of light
We don't need need your words!!
(Gimme) Your heart!! To hard!! More more more.!!
I blow my top and make some noise, even the moon is pleasant tonight.
Sink, sink, flutter to the ground, harder than any other flower blossom
Look, look, look up to the sky, clearer than any lake
The morning dew that falls dampens my cheeks
I place my hopes in the palms of my hands and question the light of the dawn
Pray, pray, pray in your dreams, for what you will find lying ahead
Further, further, soar on up high, more graceful than fleeting
Madly, madly, madly bloom, more beautifully than any other
The stir of the whirling wind blows its way through my hair
I surrender myself to those words, spellbound by a brief moment of light
There's a heart symbol at the end of the line "Come here to me" in both the English and Japanese versions, I don't know if that represents something that is actually vocalized.
As far as "soiya" goes, I've heard it chanted like this in other songs, maybe its just some sort of singsong word that doesn't really mean anything so doesn't have a translation.

Unlucky Morpheus has duel guitarists, an amazing bassist and drummer, and a world class violinist who can shred.

Nemophila are my second favourite band. Been following them since this song came out, which was their first post as a band, with the Iron Maiden Trooper cover. Seen all their live streams and they are just amazing band. Mayu is such a spectacular singer, one of the best in business, though her versatility might bring her to the No1. spot.
Others are: one of the top 5 drummers - Tamu, Hazuki on guitar (left), Haraguchi on Bass (she smiles all the time, it is infectious) and the all mighty Saki on guitar.
My top band is and will always be Lovebites, there is no other band like them. The Wolfpack are the Queens of Metal and best band anywhere.
Band-Maid is the best Hard Rock band out there and together with Scandal who are more pop rock/rock/Ska/Reggae/punk complete the top 4 bands.
There are other bands too: Aldious, Mary's Blood, Ghacaric Spin/Doll$box, Trident, Bridear, Hanabi among at least a 100 all female bands.
More performance oriented would be BabyMetal, Passcode and Wagamama Rakia.
Btw, some said from 1981, actually there were all female bands since mid-70's at the same time as Runaways.

Nemophila is quite diverse : Dissension very heavy , Sorai fun and still heavy but no harsh vocals , Raitai ans the name says Thunderous, Fighter more rockish but still with Nemophila vibes. Another super Bandd is Band Maid but they are hard rock to the bones oftheir beeing with so many influences its a joy to listten to. More up for technical stuff and beautiful voice go with Unlucky Morpheus or just give them a try i would recommend knight of sword or Tower of blood for the first impression

Lovebites and Mary's Blood are the cream of the crop, but Mary's Blood are older and sort of pre-youtube, or at least pre Babymetal, which is the band that went viral on youtube and made the Japanese companies realize that youtube could be a valuable tool...point being most of the best Mary's Blood stuff isn't available to watch. Lots of Lovebites though because they're newer, although a bunch of their stuff's been pulled recently, but there's still plenty to enjoy. Nemophila are getting there, but they're even newer than Lovebites and don't have that many songs yet, so although they're awesome, I don't rank them as high as the other two simply because they don't have as much material even though I'm obsessed with them. That was a very convoluted way of saying check out Lovebites. I wish there was more Mary's Blood stuff up I could recommend. Their most popular video for reactors is 7 years old, and it's awesome but there's SO much more to them than the few videos that have trickled onto social media over the years. I'm thinking they'll put more stuff up when their new album comes out in a couple of months. BTW, Saki plays guitar for both Mary's Blood and Nemophila. As you discover more Japanese metal, Saki's name will come up a lot. So will a band called Destrose, who Saki also played in, as did Miho (bass) and Haruna (drums) from Lovebites, and who basically (4 out of 5 original members) became Mary's Blood even though the remaining member kept the name Destrose. It gets kind of complicated...Aldious are another big name. These are just a few "all-female" metal bands, 'cos that's a thing these days even though there have been countless all-female metal bands in Japan since the early 80's, so it's really nothing new, but it took a long time before most people in the West noticed.

    • @satomiwa
      @satomiwa 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Yeah, Band-Maid are awesome, one of the best bands to come along in decades really. I didn't mention them because they aren't "metal", but they come pretty close sometimes, and I really think Band-Maid and Nemophila have more in common than most "metal" bands and Nemophila.

    • @stephenchigwidden7504
      @stephenchigwidden7504 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@satomiwa yes because both bands contain expert musicians. It's very common for lovers of heavy music (and I am one of them) to enjoy BAND-MAID as well simply because they are so good. People were calling them the new Beatles for a while but they have already done more than the Beatles ever did as far as creating music anyway and it won't be long and they will be doing some big shows I'm sure. I also like Brats and MUTANT MONSTER. I like BRIDEAR and Fategear. I like Gothic metal from bands like Tristania and Theatre of Tragedy. Just about anything from nuclear blast records is good. I also like dark electro . Fad Gadget has a rude but fun song called Swallow it. I don't mind a bit of K Pop but mostly the older stuff like T Ara and Kara and ofcourse I was very sad ( like very sad) when GU Hara died. So I like lots of different stuff. See you.
      As BABYMETAL would say.

Band-Maid. If you like lyrical content and pop-punk, you are gonna dig Band-Maid. In Band-Maid's more recent videos, they have the English translation in the CC. They have some pop-punk elements and heavy metal, but they are mostly hard rock. The lyrics are all written by the band's founder, Miku, and there are some really deep and meaningful thoughts in most of their lyrics. The double song video, "Manners/Black Hole" is a pretty good intro to Band-Maid. th-cam.com/video/iaf94nNSRGE/w-d-xo.html

Japanese all lady metal is where its at right now. There are many amazing bands. Babymetal the biggest, followed by Bandmaid. There's something for everyone's taste though. The other bands mentioned in the comments are amazing too. However Nemophila is my favorite with Babymetal. Nemophila has something different about them. Some of the reasons I like them are as follows. They are so professional and trying to start out in the COVID era makes me want to back the underdog. I dont think I've seen a band as happy with a love of music and each other like this band. They have no issues leaving their mistakes in their footage which shows there are zero ego's here. They always leave a smile on your face and that's perfect for these times. Murata Tamu the drummer also has her own YT channel which is great as well.

Came together to back the singer at some pre covid gigs and just gelled so well now there making huge waves in the world with there heavy music and smiles all top of the game .And yes shred if you utter those words and Japan Saki right guitar as you look will come up in the top handful with Hazuki left guitar not far behind .In the drummer Tamu they have one of the best there is multi- instrumentalist and session drummer .Bass Haraguchi sooo happy and part of the Laughing Thunder (her and Tamu) the band even put up a birthday video of her smiles on YT for her . And Mayu does the lyrics and some melodies and has a very impressive range pop/rock /punk/death/+awesome live well there all head banging nutters live lol .There covers are cool as well where they immerse them selves in the part and have fun .7+english Dissension track cd out through JPU records uk (there an independent band) on its 5 pressing in 2 months .New album in the mixing stages right now . @@TEALepathy Fact : Oiran (花魁) was a specific category of high ranking courtesan in Japanese history. Divided into a number of ranks within this category, oiran were considered - both in social terms and in the entertainment they provided - to be above common prostitutes, known as yūjo (遊女, lit. 'woman of pleasure'). Though oiran by definition also engaged in prostitution, they were distinguished by their skills in the traditional arts, with the higher-ranking oiran having a degree of choice in which customers they took, and the highest-ranking oiran, known as tayū, not engaging in sex work at all. The term "oiran" originated in Yoshiwara, the red light district of Edo in the 1750s, and is applied to all ranks of high level courtesans in historical Japan. / Wiki /
      OIRAN Eng lyrics :
      No one can stopping me!!
So, leave it to me now!!
      We can do anything!!
Sing! Dance! Soiya, soiya, soiya, soiya!
A single flower clad in crimson
Swaying gently in the hazy capital
A picture of elegance anyone would envy
      "Come here to me♡"
      Are you ready?
      You are cherry? Go!!!
Further, further, soar on up high, more graceful than fleeting
Madly, madly, madly bloom, more beautifully than any other
The stir of the whirling wind blows through my hair
I surrender myself to those words, spellbound by a brief moment of light
      We don't need your words!!
(Gimme)Your heart!! To hard!! More more more...!!

The thing with Japanese bands are that they seem to be leaving western bands behind, but I think a lot of that can be blamed on the music industry. In the west the record companies chase what is popular, going to make as much money as it can. Whereas in Japan a lot of metal/rock bands are independent, even down to their own record labels, so they don't have that pressure to chase the cash cow.
So here are some other Japanese Bands for you.
