Yeah I usually put these types of videos on 1.75 speed, but she’s nailing it right out of the gate. Great explanations to. However many takes this took, it was worth it and we’re grateful.
Hi there just wanted to say what a blessing its been to come across you videos. I live in Portland Oregon and we have a new house and have been struggling learning how to make my garden mine while also mastering the science of landscaping. currently binge watching all your videos !!! thank you for sharing !!!
I never consider winter interest! Definitely something I will have to do this year. Moved into this house last fall so still trying to see what is already planted. Kentucky, Zone 6. I love your videos!!!
Laura there is always something new to learn. I have always loved flowers and watching things grow but never took the time to learn how to do it properly. Your videos and topics are very helpful and inspiring and you do have the cutest baby. Thanks.
I got a lot of useful tips from your 'flowerbed makeover' video in terms of the design aspect and really love hearing your thought process. Obviously, knowing about plants and their needs/growth habits are important but you also have an eye for the aesthetics. I find it hard to envision how my plants will look together once they're mature so it's great to be able to see your beds at different stages.
First of all you make laying that drop tube look so easy. I wrestle with it every single time. I win in the end but it's never easy!!! And you make everything look so pretty!!
Super awesome video! You’ve taught me so much in such a short time. Thank you for your professionalism and willingness to bless others with your videos. May God bless you!
So pretty! I love the Pagoda dogwood...all dogwoods. That ninebark & I need to get together in my garden! It's exciting that you use so many native shrubs and ninebark has so much to give! The purple clematis and orange day lilies & tulips are going to be stunning! Love that color combo. Thanks for sharing another great video. 💜
Such beautiful work! Yet, i'd really love to see an episode on how to reclaim rough ground, & begin a planting bed! What are all the alternative ways, such as tilling, etcetera. It sure does look easier with existing beds! Show us how you made them from scratch, please!
First of all... Russell in the tree made my day. Laura, I love your videos. They make me laugh and smile and think and imagine what my garden can be. Loved today's topic.
Laura you said not to stress about what kind of mulch to use and I totally agree with that...but what kind did you get?...I am loving the color it sends off in the flower bed! Your grounds are my goal in LIFE! Love it!
Gee, I learn so much from watching you garden. I like the day lilies... such a pretty color. I am still waiting for all the snow to melt so I can get outside and start cutting down the old raspberry bushes and plan my garden. Thanks for sharing your garden.
I can’t wait to start planting. We had snow again on Sunday! Wednesday in the 60’s and rain on the weekend is the forecast. All the seasons in one week. Only in Illinois!
I enjoy your videos. Your easy to understand, you give good advice that's not too complicated, yet knowledgeable. You also offer names of plants that can be used in a colder climate. Makes me want to get out there and start my garden! :)
You nailed it again. Really your simplifying with mass plantings of a few items. Also, I liked the idea planting items that have offset bloom times. That will be something to consider the next time I'm creating area
Pretty impressive that you had 1.1k likes and not one dislike, at least when I watched it. Goes to show how loved your videos are in the You Tube community.
Holy cow. Almost everywhere is sold out of the new clematis bush! Glad I watched your video tonight. Placed my order at two different nurseries! As always, thank you for sharing your knowledge, tips and new plants!
Ive never really been into gardening i sadly kill alot of plants but ive moved into our first home that we own and the garden needs to be completely pulled out and re done because sadly the old man that lived here couldnt maintain it. I'm happy for you and your first home. We can all start small with gardening, I think. I was afraid of starting my own rooftop garden last summer because I'm gonna move out of my parents house soon. However, Laura & her channel encouraged me a lot and I began with cleaning out the rooftop. Then I bought the first plant. Now it looks completely different and has turned into a favorite spots for dragonflies and bees. My parents love the garden too and I know they will have something to remind them about me when I move out. (Sorry for rambling on and have fun gardening ^^)
Nakita Martin Pick one area a season to landscape with fresh plants. It'll give you time to think about design ideas for other parts of your yard. The rest of the season you can focus on removing spent plants and amending the soil, you might even ask friends about plant divisions. That's an inexpensive way to fill out your garden. But be aware of invasive plants (Laura calls them "thugs") your friends may offer. Also, I place my hose as I visualize a new garden bed borders then edge around it and remove sod. Sometimes I stare at a space for hours before acting. My neighbors are used to me by now and enjoy the fruits (or flowers) of my labors.
Kate gave good advice. Start small and think it over. Also consider plants that naturalize (spread on own) as this is cheaper. I use bigroot (macrorrhizum) geranium specifically because it's cheap, tidy, and spreads fast!
Try some plants native to your area. They're specialized for where you live. Letting the 'weeds' grow and picking out the ones liked best and then transplanting them are one way to go, but it takes time. I read "Garden Revolution" by Larry Weaner and "The Living Landscape" by Doug Tallamy
I just love your videos. I'm going through difficult time in my life and these videos are relaxing and healing for me. Working in my garden is so healing, I just love it. Thank you.
Looks great, Laura! I appreciate your thoughtfulness in your gardening...such good tips. And the tippy tip of Russell's tail swishing back & forth made me gut laugh :)
Love it with the mulch color! Because I'm lazy I use compost as the mulch though. I don't have to pull it back to plant. And just add on top as it sinks. I don't get the amazing color choices but that's ok. I'm just a one and done kind of person because I'm old. Your's looks beautiful Laura!
Your videos have been so cool and helpful. I really like how you get down to business and give the scoop. I just pruned my 3 climatice yesterday. Your information was so helpful. I really liked how you put together that garden area. So attractive 😍
Thank you so much for this video! I have a flower bed that has been neglected for several years and want to completely revamp it. These tips will help so much in undertaking this project!! And I will definitely have to check into incorporating the clematis ... I love their blooms and have never been successful in having the vine type. Hopefully I will have better luck with the bush type! Thanks again for sharing :)
Gooodmorning Garden Answere!!! What awsome way to have my coffee. Laura those plants are so beautiful and thank you for always giving us something new to learn. It makes it so much fun. It’s raining here in NC so I’m just going to relax and enjoy the rain keeping my plants sooo happy!❤️🌷🌹🌷
I enjoy watching your videos however I was wondering when you do a video like this one that I'm commenting on do you also like revisit that garden bed when everything's in full bloom and show us a spring version of what it looked like before the flowers and after because I really like to see the full view of what it looks in full bloom
Oh my, I had to laugh at Russell as well, he is such a great kitty! I just love the 'Stand by Me' bush Clematis, I'm going to be looking for this at my garden center, it is so beautiful, and I would love to have a clematis in my garden, once again thank you so much for sharing this video, I love everything about it.
Help I decided to do a succulent garden in a large glass goblet love all the things you do ... all going good except yesterday I noticed mushrooms growing along side my succulent what the hell lol..... new bag of cactus soil and stones y am I now growing veg with my succulents.... I do plan on doing a raised bed for veg ... thanks to laura and her fab garden x
Excellent content, thank you. Deers loved to eat my ninebarks to the ground😭. Ninebark tag read deer resistant too.😤 excellent design, looking forward to next video
Loved all the tips. Now I need to google some more info about what you were doing with that hose. Haven’t seen that before. I just got into gardening though so don’t be shocked haha
This is giving me soo much inspo! I’m currently a renter but also looking to purchase our first home and I cannot wait. Currently I can only garden in containers but I want to do so much more!
Love this video, I have an area in my front yard that has some bushes in it (not sure what they are, builder planted them) and then I planted some tulips, daffodills and tiger lily's. My tiger lillies are beautiful when they bloom, but I planted them toward the back drop, wondering if I should move them and have them toward the middle and plant some of these other things in place
Awesome video as always! Would you consider doing a video about mulch types? Which ones you use and what is best for different kinds of plants? Thanks!
Watching this vid reminds me of taking a Photograph look what is around the area and background and then shoot the pic, or in your case our case plant the plants x. PW as you always use, are hard to get in England our local garden cen do not have that many x I have seen a couple of companies online that do PW plants x
You may be surprised by those Stand By Me Clematis plants. They say 3 ft wide x 3 ft tall but my 3 yr old plant is almost 5 ft. tall by a little over 2 ft wide. Their branches fall over and touch the ground and have to be staked completely around the whole plant. First I tried staking with trellises on 2 sides. Even though smacked up against a fence with a hydrangea bush on one side and another 3 ft tall plant on the other side, branches still all fell forward. Put another trellis in the front and branches fell between all of them. So I had to take string and tie all the trellises together all the way around - basically just wrapped the trellises, with the plant in the middle, with the string - in 3 places along the height from top to bottom. They do have beautiful flower heads. But you really can't see them in all their beauty unless you look up at them from underneath. Mostly all you see is the lighter, muted color of the top of the flower heads and not the bright gorgeous deep blue color of the inside of the flower. Amazing bee attractor, though. And when the wind blows the heads up so you can see the color, they're gorgeous. Just be aware they may grow taller than stated and have to really be staked well. The plants on either side of them don't support this plant near enough and all that staking with trellises and string distracts from the plant. I think you'd need tall plants completely surrounding this clematis so just the heads of the flowers would peek out from the middle of all those around it. Then you wouldn't have the distraction of trellises or string supporting it.
Laura and Aaron have done seasonal tours often in the past but things have been pretty busy lately. They recently mentioned that they will try to pick it up soon. If not, they have updates if they are back in same area working on another project. Like the update to this driveway; I'm excited about that part!
Thank you SO MUCH! I am 60 and own a home - have no idea how to even start but know I want to do this myself , not hire people ! I have only done knock out roses bc I’m scared but I have no clue what to fill in , how much soil I need etc
If spring ever comes to Michigan this year. I am getting excited as well, but this winter weather has to break soon. Detroit was getting snow yesterday.
I love that you don’t go off topic or take forever to give the information! Clear, concise and to the point! Very refreshing!
Yeah I usually put these types of videos on 1.75 speed, but she’s nailing it right out of the gate. Great explanations to. However many takes this took, it was worth it and we’re grateful.
I would love to see an update of this area!💕
I would LOVE to see a then vs now series!!! what does this area look like now?
I could watch your videos all day. You don’t over complicate things and I like how you explain what you are doing and why! Keep it up and THANK YOU!
Russell makes me smile! You could not have picked a more perfect cat!!
Judy Forward But I miss Dexter. So awesome. I can’t even listen to his passing. 😥😥
Judy Forward I think cats also respond to the people they live with. I believe he is so adorable because he is so loved. Well done, Laura.

Thanks for sharing. I'm getting excited about getting outdoors in my flower garden. I'm in Michigan, zone 6. 🌷🌸🌹🌺🌼
Do you do anything special with the soil before you start planting
+Linda Vernon Yes, I use a gardening compost and add a couple of bags of fresh soil. I'm also going to add worm castings this year.
If spring ever comes to Michigan this year. I am getting excited as well, but this winter weather has to break soon. Detroit was getting snow yesterday.
+Mark Kaiser I know, bummer. We got snow in New Baltimore, Mi. last night, but temps are going up in the high 50's this weekend 😀
