    Yep the Q30's lack of coil options is my biggest complaint. I don't have the audio problems. Another thing I don't like is having to use two hands to change modes. I have the Simplex with the SP24 coil and I typically take both detectors when I go out so I'm covered there. Q30 is a good detector but I might sell it and get the Legend if it's shown to be all that. I like to go down to the beach in Mexico a couple, 3 times a year and bottle caps are killing me. The Ferro check on the Legend would be very nice. I hope you get your hands on one because I love your thorough, honest reviews

    Found myself wanting another metal detector for my collection a few weeks ago after selling my R2-D2 Equinox. I looked hard at The quest 40. In the end I went with the Simplex package with the extra m24 coil and headphones. I have really appreciated the unit the last 2 days, now I know why I always missed my old Simplex.

    The discrimination ability of the old Explorer 2 was absolutely amazing and I have never found any other detector to do a better job let alone equal it in that area. Another awesome thing about the Explorer 2 was coil choices. Holy crap the coils that would work on that machine Was insane. No EMI issues as far as I remember.
    In some area's I really believe detectors today have excelled with today's tech but have also gone backwards in some areas too.

    Hey Joey. Another great vid. The coils are not the same on the Q30 and Q40. The different connector is not to do with the operating frequency. It is because the Q30 needs to be submersible so they needed to modify the connector. You can fit a Q30 coil to the Q60 and that runs three selectable frequencies. The speaker issue, actually you reminded me about that. My Q30 was originally very loud. I did a lot of testing on the beach and you could easily hear it above the wind and surf, however, for some reason, it suddenly went quiet, pretty much as you described. Jane from Quest knew about this issue and suggested I use a hot air dryer over the speaker area! The thought was that the speaker had popped and so was not able to move properly. I really don't get how that would happen. Anyway, it never did return to normal operation but as I use wireless headphones it was not a big issue. The notch range issue is definitely a problem, well it is for people like you and me who make use of the notch. Bottom line though it is still a nice machine and it works really well on the beach which is my main search area. I think you need to sort that EMI issue with your Nox as you can notch individual numbers. I also own a Nox and I only had EMI issues when I also had my mobile phone turned on. I now turn it off before I start searching. No more issues :)

    • @VegasDtech
      @VegasDtech  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah i noticed also putting my phone in airplane mode made a great deal of difference with the NOX. Im spoiled now with the collapsing shaft of the Simplex and the quest. I like taking my Suzuki Burgman scooter when i go detecting and the Equinox shaft wont collapse enough to easily bring but where theres a will there is a way.. I'll get back out there with it.. probably starting tomorrow.. Q30 was great on EMI. If i didnt already have the Q40.. I would have bought the Q30+ with wireless and kept it...

    • @yamahamusicians
      @yamahamusicians 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@VegasDtech I have the two-piece carbon fibre stem on my Nox but yeah, it doesn't collapse down much at all. I think what we need is the Tele-Knox stem. That collapses down in almost as small as the Q30/Q40. Why Minelab didn't put a decent stem on the Nox in the first place is a mystery 🤔I do like the design of the Q30 and it has some great features but yeah, quality control could be better at times.

    So... I don't have enough money for a Q40, what would you suggest for a $300 metal detector?...
    Edit:
    It's a couple months later, bought the q30 after a long hard decision. I have not put it through it's paces, but I have noticed the speaker has been relocated (at least on mine). The headphone jack still is defective, but I can work with it. I don't have enough money for a q40, so I had to try something. If their was a $300 that had as much waterproofing as this one did I would check it out. Will update after first run, but it looks promising (pray for me please 😅)
    Edit 2; well, after a little shakedown it mostly sucks because it doesn't have multifrequency, but I've found it's a pretty ok detector (aside from the headphone jack). Definitely should have listened to this guy but 🤷‍♂️ that's my own fault

      @@aydenk2359 The Minelab Vanquish series isn`t waterproof but is a fantastic, deep, multi frequency beach machine for gold rings. It uses a simple and easy to set and go Equinox type technology and five frequencies. The Simplex is waterproof and can be ground balanced for beach use but is a single frequency machine that won`t hit small gold like earring backs they way the Vanquish does. It may not be able to go as deep as the Vanquish if the beach sand is highly mineralized.
      Not sure about the Quest machines on the beach, but if you don`t plan on going in the water even the low cost Vanquish 340 can make you some money fast if the gold is there and you take the time to find it.
      The Vanquish 440 is a better choice as it gives you more control over sensitivity settings and discrimination, custom settings, etc. It costs 50 bucks more than the 200 dollar 340.
      Coin mode on the Vanquish favors coin frequencies and notches out things below that range, jewelry mode favors gold frequencies and notches out very low iron frequencies, and all metal favors deeper relic frequencies. Each mode has different set recovery speeds too, with coin being the fastest to give better target separation. All metal mode has a deeper seeking slower recovery speed that can miss small gold.

    • @baneverything5580
      @baneverything5580 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@aydenk2359 I would go with the Vanquish as long as you don`t plan on being in the water and exposing its brain to water. You may find enough gold with it to shop for another machine. Look up the Vanquish 340 and 440 machines on here. It`s very similar in beach ability to the Equinox.

      @@VegasDtech I`d like to get a Quest X10. But a Simplex is only 50 bucks more. To get quality you have to pay a bit more. China makes cheap stuff and quality stuff. If you buy the inexpensive stuff you might get cheap quality. My home is loaded with Chinese radios, solar panels, solar power stations, batteries, battery chargers, tools, wire, cables, testers, meters, adapters, speakers, microphones, guitars, etc. I paid for the good stuff though. My favorite radios in the past were anything from Japan but now China has the radio receiver market monopolized. They brought the price of quality way down too compared to two decades ago. I listen to a lot of shortwave communications, airplanes. long range AM, etc. Vocal mics we use in bands averaged 100 to 300 each. China sells the same thing for 20 to 60.

    Hey J, send the Q30 back to Serious Det. Was the Q30 an open box buy? I bought the last few pin pointers, coils and my Apex from SD. I live about 2 hrs away from SD so ground shipping only takes a day. I pretty much detect old homesite permissions, and as much as I hate the zincoln penny, I dig them to be rid of them. Most have to go in the trash. I don’t want to miss the IHP’s on old homesites. I’ll have to try the ball diamonds close by as you mentioned, but the parks dept. frowns on detecting the diamonds as they want no digging. In MA where my son lives, the diamonds are irrigated so detecting them are off limits. Pity! Keep Digging, J!

    Sorry to hear it didn't worked out with the Q30. Like you said the Q40 killed it for you. But the worst on this detector for you isn't an issue for me as an European .We don't have the problem with pennies and i just have to discriminate until VDI 40 and dig from 40 and above for the Euro coins and it works fine. I don't notch on this dectector. About the low speaker volume i can't say anything. I never used my Q30+ on speaker , i always use wireless headphones and the one included with the Q30+ from Quest is excellent. I know that the one that was included with your Q30 is garbage, i also got this one with my Q20 but never used it. I used my Q30+ last sunday in combination with my Multi Kruzer and got 3 pieces of silver, no gold and around 50 euro in coins. what is not bad day in wintertime when playgrounds don't produce. Everything came from parks.
    You were wright again about the place you detect. You have to create your own opportunity. I drive 30-35 km because i know it always will be good, even on a less day. I only detect in my neigberhood when i don't have time or just wan't to have fun for an hour or two.
