Robert this situation may bring up a problem with renting this car. So if the car holds up 5-6 laps after the mechanical overrev it means that probably, in a rental situation, the motor could blow up on the next customer that rents this car with him not having done anything wrong.
Great honesty, if it’s your fault you will pay, a proper way to behave, I personally think Toyota will repair it. Love your videos keep up the good work...

These things happen: I did the exact same thing whilst test driving an Audi Sport Quattro back in the 80's - went to drop from 5th to 4th, missed and engaged 2nd - the car stood on its nose and I was pinned hard against the belts. Miraculously the engine didn't blow but I had one helluva lot of explaining to do!!
Robert, I did the exact same thing in my GT3 at Mosport when I was giving my son a ride - i.e. talking / not concentrating. Fortunately for me, the Pressure Plate exploded - I only hit 9000rpms. After tremendous research on my part, I discovered that Porsche specifically put in a weaker Pressure Plate (non-drag-racing PP) so that the weak point was the PP and not the engine. I'm saying this because with the engine coming out, take a look at the PP and see if you can Downgrade the PP so the PP is the weak point.
So this is Toyota’s fault for not letting the clutch blow;-). Seriously though glad to hear that’s all that happened on your car. Would have been a big bill
@@RobertMitchell I sort of learned the lesson without knowing it when I tried, one time, to semi-drop the clutch at a red light - only to smell clutch - never again. «The stars were aligned», unfortunately the gearshifts weren’t... 😉 Appreciate the honest and straightforward step by step analysis of highs and lows at Apex 👍 Check engine oil for metal particles. Haha !!!! I've been driving a manual ever since I started driving in the early 80's :) Hell we've all missed a shift once or two in our lifetime...If you haven't then you are not sending it hard enough !!
«The stars were aligned», unfortunately the gearshifts weren’t... 😉
Appreciate the honest and straightforward step by step analysis of highs and lows at Apex 👍
Check engine oil for metal particles.
Sounds like either rocker arms, valve spring related or a collapsed hydraulic lifter (which also sometimes can fail after a moneyshift).
Refreshingly honest unlike many customers whom would claim to be innocent.
Nice thumbnail lol. Crypyo memes i see.

Bummed to see this happen. Thanks for taking the time to break down the diagnostic process, very interesting.
funny how you never cried about it! Misha probably would of gone bananas over it! I joke! You guys at apex are just unbelieveably good at making sure NO ONE misses a thing on how it is to run a business!
keep up the good work!
great storytelling! keep making straight-up and honest content. so refreshing in this age of automotive hype. cars are cars and people are people
Think you're spot on Robert. The car is so new I think it's hard to tell if it was manufacturing issues and your explanation makes so much more sense.
Great video as usual!
always nice to see true honesty ! its human to make a mistake anyone that dissagre is telling a lie ! keep up the good work !
Not always fun to say you f’d up but it happens
top man respect for being so open and honest. thank you for sharing and keep up the good work
Good on you Robert for owning it and not blaming others.
Reading your title, first thing I said, “oh shiiftt”. You get the idea. Lookin forward to the build now and good luck!!
Hehe
Thanks for sharing guys, sorry to hear you`ve had problems. Hopefully, Toyota will take care of this. Keep us updated.
You're a man of integrity, Robert. 👍 thank you.
Hey Robert, a big plus one for your transparency on mishaps! You showed that in the past and now again. That leaves all the room to learn from what happened and what meassures need to be taken to prevent a similar mishap in the future.
I have only some basic knowlegde on internal combustion engines with a bias to the old mechanical NA diesels, so the technical aspects of the Yaris engine i leave happily to the experts and i am looking forward to see what comes out of all of this.
kind regards,
Fenna
