Hi Timothy, thank you for the feedback and this is unfortunate to hear about, this should not be like that, the Chariot is normally a great trailer to use and perhaps it needs to have the set up checked or some maintenance done on it. If you can please send us your details to our email at info@mobilityengineering.com.au we will have someone from Bruno USA contact you to help.
      Thank you.

US railroad crossings are poorly maintained. Most use wood that warps in a few months, so any car rattles when you cross them. The problem may not be this device but the railroad crossing itself.
When new, such crossings are smooth but that does not last long and it is often decades between repairs are done.

BEWARE. I had one installed and it's full of design flaws. It needs to
be heavily modified to take a large scooter and it's nearly impossible
to take it off your car, it took my mechanic son over an hour to get it
off due to stress in the tow bar. For a disabled person, using the
inadequate tiedowns is almost impossible because the mechanism is
between the unit and you car and very very low to the ground. I've also
found that when carrying my scooter, the car is always losing traction.
Be warned too that you must have your engine running when loading and
unloading or it will drain your battery.

Not sure, we are not in the UK, we are in Australia, VERY far away! You will have to ask the local authorities.
