As Greeks we must remember this song is older than the War. When the Balkans were harmonious and peaceful, this was sung all together, and has words in most all Balkan languages, and its no accident the Greek sings "Τσιφτετέλι Τουρκικό".

True. This song is sung all over the Balkans in every language there is.

There aren't Turks and Greeks, there are only humans. We are all brothers because we are all humans. Some powerful guys, make us think we have differences, thus manipulating us. Let's free our chains, let's feel what love among nations mean. Let's forget the past, it can only divide us. PEACE!!!

This is so true fellow. There were really no "dark" middle ages on the Balkans before Ottoman occupation.Despite all the wars between Bulgarians,Byzantines,Serbs and so on we were really part of the same great East-European civilization.

The version by Stelios Kazantzidis is by far the most popular and is played at weddings to this day. The best tiftedeli ever. Agree withTakwed's comments wholeheartedly also.

You sound so childish lol Ali’s version is played at weddings to this day…. Guess you only go to Greek weddings. It’s little comments like this that shows the sort of person you ate and the reason why things could never go forward because you have hate in you. Sikidim us a Turkish song by the way.. childish init lol

One day Turks and Greeks (and Armenians) will realize we are the same people. Our genes mixed for 1000 years. Many successful Ottomans were Greeks who converted to Islam and became Turk. The best example is greatest Ottoman admiral Barbarossa Hayreddin Pasha. Certain countries would like to see us fight but I hope wise people in Greece and Turkey will never let this happen and our countries will stay as the paradise on earth, with their beautiful people, climate, food, history, sea and beaches.

turks are mixed! You have janissaries & the blood was incorporated into your genepool. Congrats, you are islamified Greek or forced convert from janissary! 🤣
turks DID NOT convert to Orthodox Christianity, so it’s safe to say that the ones that remained Christians have nothing to do with mongolians! 👍

@saltadoros08 - People belonging to other religions were not ruled by Sharia under the Ottoman Empire. They had their own religious authority. And there were Turkish people fighting against the sultan too. Try to read history with an objective mind. Don't let your prejudices cloud your mind and judgement. Otherwise you can never grow as an individual.

Not that I don't think the song originated among the Turks first, it is also a Macedonian song, a Greek song, a Bulgarian song and a Serbian song. Probably an Albanian song as well. It is a universal song of the Balkan people. Many folk songs we have in the Balkans is borrowed from the Turks, though, they borrowed plenty of culture and music from us as well. Since we lived among each other for so long.

First of all, Macedonia is Greek. Those other people are self-hating Bulgarians! 👍
Second: Greeks are not Balkanites like the rest of you gyfto turkic-slavs, stop associating yourselves to us or grouping us together.
Third: this song is a Greek song, every nation around the Balkans CAME OUT with their versions of this song AFTER Kazantzidis’ original Greek Version.
      COPE & SEETHE !!! 👍

Don't fear from our culture because nobody will touch to your culture, nobody wants change to your culture. Keep resemble to the germans, italians, even americans. If you know what is your real culture and if you are sure about your beautiful culture, don't write the breaker comments. Just listen it and leave, or keep listen.

a shame once Greeks, Turks, Armenians and Kurds lived peacefully in Asia Minor and as friends for hundreds of years, but politics made people into monsters to fight for them so they could form a power of their own. But roots remained and we hv many traditions, food and music similar and each declaring their own. Even in the Greek language there are words formed from Turkish and yes even Indian because Greeks were great travellers too.I hv many Turkish friends who were there for me in time of need

The tsifteli developed in Ottoman Asia Minor. There is no good evidence that it was a classical Greek or Byzantine invention, prior to the Ottoman invasion. It is therefore a product of the Ottoman empire, which included Turkish and Greek subjects. Strictly speaking, it is neither Greek nor Turkish, but Ottoman.
