It is but it will get a tone of hate quickly, I found playing this deck that people will really try to kill Zaxara and destroy Ozolith as possible. They are both cards that generate a lot of hate and scream you need to deal with me or I will quickly get out of control.

Depends on your playgroup. I have two; one that vehemently hates alternate win/losecons, and another that doesn't care. Make sure your playgroup is okay with the alternate before you play
My Zaxara Deck is literally called "X Gon' Give it to ya", and it featuers playing/tutoring villanous wealth as many times as you can until your opponents give you all their cards :)
Herald of secret streams, spark double are good adds for this deck. Your hydras can't be blocked and you can copy zaxara for multiple tokens from all the X spells.
Remember that Zaxara creates 0/0 tokens and then the +1/+1 counters are applied. Primal Bond and Garruk's Uprising will not trigger from the Zaxara tokens entering play.
I would Love to see an episode of breake the Budget for this deck! There are so many great X Spells and i think you could make a really awesome deck with a greater budget. Love the content!

So, Kiora and the other two enchantments do not work with the hydras created by Zaxara's trigger. They enter the battlefield as 0/0, then receive the counters, still during the resolution. They see them enter the battlefield as 0/0. "The Hydra token enters the battlefield as a 0/0 creature. Any abilities that modify or trigger on this event apply. After the token is on the battlefield but before any player can take actions, +1/+1 counters are put onto the token."
The biggest card you missed is the enchantment "freed from the real" one blue: tap enchanted creature one blue: untap enchtanted creature It's an infinite mana combo for Zaxara and one of the ways I enjoy beating my friends :D infite mana into X-cost spells is gross, and awesome :D

I've been messing around with a Zaxara hydra deck and it's quickly become my favorite deck to play. I recently found Retribution of the Ancients as an option to turn all of your hydras into cheap, instant speed creature removal. Haven't had a chance to test run it yet though

i'm building zaxara, so it was nice to see this! i'm gonna use freed from the real and pemmin's aura to get infinite mana, and use that to either kill or mill someone to death. or everyone, with torment of hailfire.
Gargos vicious watcher would be a sweet card for this deck. Protects your creatures through deterrence, as well as reducing your hydra cost by 4, which lets your x values get bigger for free once he comes down
I just ordered this deck and this is the first one I've ever ordered from Commander Quarters. I am super pumped I love hydras. Unfortunately because the video is a little old some of cards went up in price but all of the decks he builds do that. Because that's just how it be sometimes. But all of them will still be no where near the cost of an average EDHRec deck. I'm still hype for this deck to come in. I will up date this comment when it does, and when I first use it.
The transmute mechanic works well in this deck. It serves as a flexible and cheap tutor for basically any X spell in your deck. Ex: Perplex, muddle the mixture, and dimir infiltrator
For the next budget deck tech, how about Patron of Orochi? He has a really unique ability with his Snake Offering you can cast him as an instant from the Command Zone (I belive) and with his ability to untap all forest and green creatures, I think there is place for some crazy plays! For Ramp, Patron of Orochi allows you to tap all your mana again, you can easily concider that all the Green Mana you can have is doubled thanks to Patron of Orochi, for wincons there could be any Monstrous X Hydras like Hydra Broodmaster and Polukranos, World Eater
I got a buddy that I got into Commander and he has a deck like this, and it is terrifying to play against. I have come close to dying to it every time I play against it.
Glad you put villainous wealth into this deck tech. I know it's not budget but nyxbloom ancient is a nice addition to decks with a lot of X spells. Best villainous wealth I personally played was for 40
I believe there's a problem with Elemental Bond, Garruk's Uprising and Kiora. Normally, Hydras enter the battlefield with the +1/+1 counters on them, but this is not the case. The way that Zaxara is worded makes them enter as 0/0 Hydras, which won't trigger these cards, and then they get the counters. Some people would say this is incorrect since the hydras would immediately die from having 0 toughness, but since the tokens enter the battlefield as 0/0s and get the counters all in the same event (Zaxara's ability trigger) there is no time for State Based Actions to be checked, thus, the hydras survive.
I don't think that Elemental Bond etc. will trigger off of the Hydra Tokens; seeing as they enter as 0/0 before putting the counters on them. In which case, they'd have already entered the battlefield.
Unfortunately the way it works is they enter as 0/0s not as 4/4s or more. Even if it worked as you suggest, they still enter the battlefield as 0/0s which doesn't cause a trigger from elemental bond etc.
From gatherer's Zaxara rulings "The Hydra token enters the battlefield as a 0/0 creature. Any abilities that modify or trigger on this event apply." - this would be where elemental bond would need to trigger. A card that Mitch didn't mentioned but i found really useful in my deck is "Retreat to Coralhelm". Since the deck has a lot of ramp that untap a creature landfall trigger is really good with Zaxara.

I love Zaxara, I built my own a couple weeks ago and it’s actually really similar to yours! I was struggling to find ways to get my creatures through, but you brought up a couple cards I didn’t look for. I’m also running a Torment of Hailfire and an infinite mana combo - because sometimes, if you can’t get through, you just need a plan B. :D
i liked your deck. smashing peoples faces with big creatures is always fun. i did something a little different. i went x spell tribsl with 40 x spells then i put a recursion package and jarad, so i can then then sacrifice the big boys and drain my opponents very satisfing, of course my deck did cost quite a bit more but the mana tripleler has alot to do with that.
The direction of the deck is fine. there is plenty of ways to retain mana on the focus for early and mid game. Freed from the real can retrieve infinite blue mana until you want some green or black added in. Kiora is quite a bit cheaper and can net you card draw for each hydra of four or greater. otherwise aura of dominion can later use the hydras you think are not needed to further pay for more hydras like mana stones with the commander.
one budget inclousion is retribution of the ancients. 1CMC enchantment,pay a black and remove X +1+1 counters from a creture you controll and add X -1-1 counters on target creature
All the 1/1 counters, another good semi-budget card to include would be Vorel, the Hull Clade. Extremely jank, can help grow creatures to extreme amounts, and could also synergize with other X mana spells. Or another hydra being Stonecoil Serpent. Not as cheap as the others, but has decent protection and trample.
I would like to point out that you won't draw a card of Zaxara token trigger if you play an X spell with cards like Kiora (draw card if a creature with a certain power enters the battlefield). This is because the tokens enter the battlefield as 0/0 and then gets the counters on them. This is specified in the wizards rulings on zaxara. Was never said but might be good to clarify.
I've been playing Zaxara for a while and I can vouch that frontier siege works. I'd also suggest the newly reprinted Mana Reflection because it can be fetched with Emergent Ultimatum. Also, repeal and stolen by the fae will pretty much ALWAYS underperform
Also worth mentioning, Garruk's Uprising and the other draw enchantments DO NOT draw cards when you play hydra's, so they should probably be cut in favor of better X spells or better trample enchantments. Herald of Secret Streams fills the slot nicely.
Oh hell yeah! I made my *Atraxa* deck X Spells and Hydras trying to break the mold....then they made *Zaxara* now I have to change it up and conform to superfriends with Atraxa lol
Villenous Wealth is one of my favourite cards (I have your Damia Deck) to cast against my playgroup. Especially against the zombie deck, great spells to get more cards & creatures...
Its not super-budget, but Freed from the Real is less than $5 currently and on Zaxara gives infinite mana of all colors. Even if you don't want to run a lot of other cards that can instantly win with that mana, just being able to pump out a bunch of near-infinitely-large hydras and then swing for lethal the next turn is a solid option.
I personally have a Zaxara deck and a must include is freed from the Real enchant Zaxara and you have infinite mana add Torment if hailfire and instant win unless countered obviously 😉

A thing I would like to note, is that I'm not sure cards like Garruk's Uprising work in this deck, since the Hydras enter the battlefield as 0/0's, and then are given X +1/+1 counters.
I wonder if he ever thought of having people submit deck lists so he could make a video about budget upgrades to help games go well with decks they already know and love. It could make for some fun little videos
all you need is "Freed from the Real" and you can generate infinite mana Edit: so you can create tokens with infinite power or draw as many cards as you want.
Xirinorox yes and no. If you are planning on winning through creature damage, then another player just needs to cast a fog. Outside of creature damage, pretty much anything goes.
Iceberg, from Ice Age, is an amazing mana battery and always a blowout in my X deck. At $.25, its mega budget, and let's you store extra unused mana for big x spells later.
I have built my zaxara deck before this came out and I'm glad to see some of the cards i have made it in, also I'm going to have to buy these x spells that I didnt know existed!!
I highly recommend you see the value of the deck if you were to bling it out with foils.. lots of them are very cheap still.. you can basically do a budget bling deck with this commander
Based off of the Gatherer page for Zaxara, it looks like Elemental Bond, Garruk's Uprising and Kiora wouldn't trigger on the hydra tokens ETB, would you still include them for all the other creatures we're casting?
If I'm not mistaken, it's a static ability, the hydra enters the battle field with the +1/+1 counters on it, otherwise the creature could not exist since it would have 0 toughness as it enters the battle field and thus die
I used freed from the reel on zaxara, had unbound flourishing then casts villianous wealth for 50 and exiled two of my opponents entire decks. I got a hast enchantment from one and killed my third opponent
Just a hint for anyone making a Zaxara deck. There are 2 enchantment - Aura's that give you infinite MP. Don't use them as your main wincon. It's not fun. Took them out after the second round.
Got to play with a modified version of this tonight, and by modified I mean, I happen to own a doubling season I got as a gift and a hydroid krasis I pulled from a booster that I got to swap in, I dropped that krasis on turn 3 as a 7/7 with my commander out! It was a weird game, they were running a seles babymaker and a 5color legendaries matter...
I'm literally working on my Zaxara Duel Commander deck right and like others was surprised you didn't at least mention Freed from the Real since it's only $3.50. Was it because having a Zaxara deck built around FftR pushes Zaxara into CEDH territory?
Gargos the vicious watcher helps alot in this deck build, its in my zaxara deck, he makes hydras 4 less to cast, and that4 can go into the hydras x cost.

Honestly, Spark Double is just so good in most commanders decks that can run it. The ability to have 2 commanders in play is just strong.

This is correct. I just built this deck and was disappointed that they didn't trigger these effects.
you can order the triggers since they are both ETBS, the counters go on first and then resolve the Elemental bond, it works

I was expecting to see the enchantments in blue that let's you untap a creature for a blue mana to make infinite mana with zaxara
I dont think they are that budget anymore. One is 15 dollars and the other is 5. But surely, play them if have or want to buy them.

Torment of Hailfire is brutal in this deck, and Pridemalkin is a good budget fit that im surprised you didn't add. Curse of Swine is really fun too.

There is a variation of this deck I like where you replace the hydras with cards like restock and E witness to keep recasting your X spells.

This deck gets better with the new powerstones mechanic as well, since they can be used for card abilities with colorless mana

Its not super-budget, but Freed from the Real is less than $5 currently and on Zaxara gives infinite mana of all colors. Even if you don't want to run a lot of other cards that can instantly win with that mana, just being able to pump out a bunch of near-infinitely-large hydras and then swing for lethal the next turn is a solid option.
I personally have a Zaxara deck and a must include is freed from the Real enchant Zaxara and you have infinite mana add Torment if hailfire and instant win unless countered obviously 😉
I just made a Zaxara Deck and added Simic Ascendancy as another win condition.

This deck should absolutely be running Uncage the Menagerie.
Elemental Bond, Garruk's uprising and Kiora Behemoth Beckoner won't trigger from your hydra tokens entering.
A thing I would like to note, is that I'm not sure cards like Garruk's Uprising work in this deck, since the Hydras enter the battlefield as 0/0's, and then are given X +1/+1 counters.

I wonder if he ever thought of having people submit deck lists so he could make a video about budget upgrades to help games go well with decks they already know and love. It could make for some fun little videos

Edit: so you can create tokens with infinite power or draw as many cards as you want.
Or maybe add a torment of hailfire or exsanguiate as a finisher

Xirinorox yes and no. If you are planning on winning through creature damage, then another player just needs to cast a fog. Outside of creature damage, pretty much anything goes.
Iceberg, from Ice Age, is an amazing mana battery and always a blowout in my X deck. At $.25, its mega budget, and let's you store extra unused mana for big x spells later.
I have built my zaxara deck before this came out and I'm glad to see some of the cards i have made it in, also I'm going to have to buy these x spells that I didnt know existed!!

I highly recommend you see the value of the deck if you were to bling it out with foils.. lots of them are very cheap still.. you can basically do a budget bling deck with this commander

Based off of the Gatherer page for Zaxara, it looks like Elemental Bond, Garruk's Uprising and Kiora wouldn't trigger on the hydra tokens ETB, would you still include them for all the other creatures we're casting?
If I'm not mistaken, it's a static ability, the hydra enters the battle field with the +1/+1 counters on it, otherwise the creature could not exist since it would have 0 toughness as it enters the battle field and thus die
Zaxara is such a fun commander with X focused spells
Maybe, "Curse of the Swine" says "boar" because it's a reference to Odyssey and the most popular translation uses the word "boar".
I literally just made my own budget zaxara commander deck a couple days ago! Yours definitely better though, I'm new to deck building.
I used freed from the reel on zaxara, had unbound flourishing then casts villianous wealth for 50 and exiled two of my opponents entire decks. I got a hast enchantment from one and killed my third opponent
Kalonian Hydra is an amazing card for decks with +1 +1 counters, and despite it's cost it might be good to buy it

There are 2 enchantment - Aura's that give you infinite MP.
Don't use them as your main wincon.

You forgot to go through the Mana base. You always go through the Mana base, that's the most important part of the deck
Got to play with a modified version of this tonight, and by modified I mean, I happen to own a doubling season I got as a gift and a hydroid krasis I pulled from a booster that I got to swap in, I dropped that krasis on turn 3 as a 7/7 with my commander out! It was a weird game, they were running a seles babymaker and a 5color legendaries matter...
It is now more budget to use arcane signet instead of wayfarers bauble. RIP BAUBLE
I'm literally working on my Zaxara Duel Commander deck right and like others was surprised you didn't at least mention Freed from the Real since it's only $3.50. Was it because having a Zaxara deck built around FftR pushes Zaxara into CEDH territory?
I have an Animar Hydra deck, but may make that an Elementals, and move ALL my big hydras and Doubling seasons to this.... that’s gunna be nasty.

Gargos the vicious watcher helps alot in this deck build, its in my zaxara deck, he makes hydras 4 less to cast, and that4 can go into the hydras x cost.
