Forgot to mention it in the video, but this model's composition is really good as well. Unfortunately I don't have it at hand (had to take it home on a recent trip for the thumbnail photo), but I remember a good weight with a decent amount of metal. The latter you can probably figure out from all the metallic tings you can hear as I set the ship down throughout the video
Not exactly, however both models are the same size as their pre-refit designs. So the size difference is the same as in my review of the original models: th-cam.com/video/8KoG6IVVfMY/w-d-xo.html
Late to the party, but thanks for the review of the 1031-A! I’m about to order the Discovery regular size) but can’t decide which one to get: the original 1031 or the 1031-A? NB: I already have the NX-01, 1701, 1701-D and the 74656. So it’s ”just” Discovery missing now. Guess this question is more related to what’s the ”proper” choice rather than quality of build. Would really appreciate some input 🙏
I think I might have a really old video of the original Discovery XL and normal. Possibly one with the non-XL refit too if it wasnt in this video. There's a Playlist of Discovery starship reviews on my channel that would have all that. (Edit: Yeah, no refit apparently but the original design was one of my first reviwes: th-cam.com/video/8KoG6IVVfMY/w-d-xo.htmlfeature=shared ) I wouldn't really say there's a "proper" one becouse both are equally "correct". Personally I probably favor the 32nd centery design, but I just prefer that era of the show and design in general. It's also the newer one so I'm more familiar with it, and I think the older one can be kinda bland in comparison. More objectively though, looking at what you have the refit fills out the timeline a bit more, as you already have the NX and 1701 (presuming the TOS one). As a counterpoint, the origonal might help show the progression of Starfleet design philosophy better becouse its so close to the NX and 1701. Plus the Crossfield class isn't really representative of the 32nd century as it's a 23rd centery refit. Really just depends what you're after
I'm afraid I still haven't attempted it myself. But apparently it's just a matter of the right kind of plastic (no I don't know which), molding it into the right shape (usually with heat, but don't just heat up plastic unless you know what you're doing), and some clear tape. You defiantly need above average craft skills and the right tools, but thankfully I don't believe they're hard to learn skills with a good TH-cam video. And they should be cheep/improvisable tools
You're actually pretty close with calling it the "science dome" it's called the sensor dome and on the bottom of the saucer so that when they're above a planet they can get good readings
That actually makes a lot of sense. I always wondered why there was a science section at the bottom of so many saucers. Now if only the ships would actually orbit with the bottom twords the planet, as opposed to the side :)
17:51" it will jump " nice one seeing its the discovery you're talking about

Thank you so much for the video!!! Do you have a size comparison of the XL vs non-XL Discovery-A Refit?
