  • This instrument has become the cornerstone of a lot of percussionists’ set-ups. Originating from Nigeria and not to be confused with the South Indian Ghatam, this amazing drum is now widely available from leading percussion manufacturers such as LP.
    The origins of the drum have been traced back to central and southern Nigeria, and it is known by many different names depending on the tribal areas and particular religious ceremonies in which it often plays a significant role.
    The term ‘udu’ quite simply means ‘pot’ in the language of the Ibo tribe...
