I spent a year working at the Suncoast Motion Picture Company store here in the late 1990's and before that spent many days just walking the mall with friends. I still remember when Kohls was K-Mart and the mall had 2 music stores selling tapes & CDs, one at each end pf the mall... RIP Phillipsburg Mall... you will be missed... FYI: the big glass-fronted store that you said was used as a calendar store near the Sears end of the mall was a Wall to Wall Sound & Video / The Wall / FYE location... I remember it well as I spent a lot of time in there too... the space that became the H&M store previously was partially a CVS store, with the back end of H&M extending into what was the food court...
I just went to kohls last week for the first time in a while and tears welled in my eyes as I walked from my car and looked at the rubble left of the pburg mall. I didn’t expect it, but it’s just such a shame the mall closed and I had many fond memories there growing up. Imagine my surprise when I saw this on my TH-cam recommended! Granted I like abandoned exploration videos but to see this of a place so close to home and so near to its end.. I only wish I had the same chance you did to say one last goodbye. Thank you for this footage.
What memories the Phillipsburg Mall was. Sad to see it gone and ashamed. As well as the mall needed to go, but still a memory when it was alive. Thanks for sharing the video.
14:29 Deb Shop. That’s where I met the woman of my dreams she was the manager there. 24 years old. Year: 1999. I had a store in front of hers. I could see her everyday! This mall is very special to me. I’m in tears looking at the demolition.
Great vid man! I live about 10 minutes from here. It brings back a lot of great memories from the 90s. I was born in 1988. So, I grew up when malls were still thriving and technology hadn’t taken over yet. I remember going there with my family on Friday nights and the Christmas holidays there would be super packed. When I got a bit older I had a couple jobs there and by that time the mall was a shell of itself. Very sad. Just goes to show physical things don’t last.
Ray, I share your both your joys and pain. The oldest mall in my city is being demolished, and I never anticipated the sadness and nostalgia it would bring. Excellent job, as always, the low angle of the setting sunlight really enhanced the whole mood of your visit. Thank you...
Great video!! That beautiful morning sunlight adds nostalgia and warmth to this surreal and sad place. Thank you for sharing your memories and knowledge of this mall. I totally agree that we must visually document the places we care about.
Ray, I really enjoy your content a lot. Really appreciate your passion for documenting these beautiful retail relics of the past and giving us a sense of nostalgia when we were young and enjoying being at the malls with friends and family. So sad that this mall had a short lived life. Was opened in 1989, not that long ago. You are right about those who explore these abandoned sites and take the pleasure to vandalize and write graffiti, shows lack of respect. Thanks for respecting the properties you visit and not resort to theft by taking things from them. That shows true respect and will gain more respectable viewers. Peace by brother.😂
Lots of great times here, spent many weekends just hanging out and walking, remember the food court, ashamed it closed.going to fye and radio shack, and the book store.kmart too.and sure miss the Black Rose.sad,so long.
thank you for sharing this with us, so sorry for yours and the communities loss, if it wasn't for the upbeat music and uplifting passion for the memories... the narration and panning shots could be some real tear jerkers
@RayOutThere of course! I was shocked to see Black Rose had a location there. I was very familiar with their Chambersburg Mall and Hanover, PA locations. I thought those were their only 2 locations being a mom n pop type antique mall. Didn't know they were a chain of sorts going out that far east.
Great video Ray, I used to do sports card memorabilia shows there and I worked at KB Toys also . I traveled from Emmaus Pennsylvania just to work there. I really love this mall
13:38 pretty sure it was “The Wall” selling tapes/CDs and music stuff for a while and then changed to FYE which I believe sold similar CDs and music. This is all so great, thanks for sharing with us!
I’m 23 and grew up going there , my mom worked at the food court back around when the mall first opened. I got to see the mall in a fully functioning way when I was I kid I remembered going there around Christmas probably 2007-2010 it was completely packed during the holidays, where you’d be angry with the amount of people that were rushing around . But not long after that when we’d visit the mall throughout the year you would start noticing less and less people and stores slowly closing down and buckets and buckets filled with water from leaking ceilings , less maintenance done to the property like the weeds in the parking lots and the overall aging of the mall , where it came got to the point probably around 2016 or so where the mall was just useless, with virtually no name brand stores remaining, probably about 25 percent store occupancy which made you not want to make the trip anymore . The building started to show signs of disrepair with molding ceiling tiles full of brown spots , the place just looked like it was way overdue for a serious renovation that never came . And by that point it looked like they gave up on the place and that really started to become apparent around 2019 . It’s sad I wish they would have remodeled the place and made it a more enjoyable experience , it’s definitely sad to see it go
Crazy, I used to shop here all the time. Also, I always wanted to see inside those mirrored columns because the rumor was always that there are cameras in them.
I think there was a Chicken Lounge restaurant in that shopping center area as well. I was just through Pburg this summer on the way home from Newark Airport. Decided to shoot through on 22 instead of 78/33. I saw two businesses we "frequented" back in the late 70s that are still there. Parkway Liquor and Norton's Cork and Bottle, both places we could get served because back then the drinking age was 18 or 19. Most of the bars/clubs we went to are gone. Places like Barr's Place, The Red Rooster(Alpha), the Lemon Twig, The Castle Inn, The Wardell. But, Jimmy's Hot Dogs is also still there! Seeing this building in the process of demolition reminds me of watching the Sears store at the Whitehall Mall being demolished. Nice tour, thanks for taking us along!
Ah, Ray, I'm getting all verklempt here! This was also my first dead mall that made me really fall in love with exploring places like these. I'm really sad that it's gone but I'm glad I got to experience it for a while. I love the old footage ❤
I just went by the mall a month ago, and it’s all leveled up flat gravel. The only thing that is standing alone is Kohl’s. This was my childhood mall!! 😢❤
I actually love the abandoned mall videos; I loved going to the mall as a teenager; but it's kinda fun to see how creepy they look; it's sad, but just the way of the world, I guess
In the early 2000s I dated a girl for a few years who grew up in Phillipsburg. Went to the mall many times and it was always very crowded and busy. Amazing to see its downfall and destruction.
It’s really a shame the owners refused to do a fixture sale. Back when they had the guards in the parking a year ago one of them did give a couple RadioShack letters but wouldn’t let me in the mall
Sadly nothing is left of Phillipsburg mall other than a pile of crushed concrete and dust. Those blue neon skylights was golden 😢😢😢 .. they only cut the power once demolition commenced 😢
I remember going there in the early 2000's and it would be packed with people. I miss the food court. I was just a kid at the time. Still went there until probably 2017 or 2018 to go to GameStop lmao but it was sad to see how dead it was
I see your a fan of the ancient 1900s... I left this area before it was built and it died and was torn down with in my life time. I love the idea of lots of independent vender spaces . what kind of camera are you using?
That was one nice looking mall back then. I have a mall nearby me called Haute city center. It is a struggling mall. If you want to , check it out. It is on highway 41 I. Terre haute Indiana. You can see some of the mall off interstate 70.
If it didn't seem like a good move at the time then you made the right choice. It's always important to be safe and secure when exploring. I've passed over many places because of potential risk. It's just how things go
It's extremely sad that so many people are only thinking about Themselves, and not about other People and their kids , absolutely none of Our Malls should be closed down or even demolished!!! People have gotten so self centered and disgusting it's astounding.
I would have loved to. Here's the thing, its not exactly legal to go in abandoned buildings. If I were to get caught doing it I could get in trouble, and if I'm taking something from a building, it could be a theft charge as well.
Strange when things taken for granted are no longer. Thank You for sharing.
Glad you liked it!

This made me cry so hard, malls will never be the same again.
It's like a big piece of our world is gone
Me too, but luckily it is not all malls since other malls are still thriving. I have a feeling they will make a comeback.
This was a great information about this absolutely beautiful abandoned mall .
What a beautiful and respectful video. Great ambience music and voiceover as well.
Shot at around 11:03 is breathtaking
Thank you so much, I really appreciate that!

My old mall!!! Thanks for the tour Ray 😊😊😊
Thank you for watching! It will always hold a place in my heart
So well done, Ray.✨
Thank you!
This was a great explore. I've never been to this mall but you did a good job contrasting the past with state of things today.
thank you,!!

Thank you! Miss this place so much 💔
Great video man. Enjoyed the explore and your story to this mall. I'm sad I never had the chance to visit before or even after it closed.
Ay Wallie B! Good to see you here. Much appreciated!!!

I think the Phillipsburg location was the only one in Jersey. Shame there's only one left, places like that are great.
Great video Ray, I used to do sports card memorabilia shows there and I worked at KB Toys also . I traveled from Emmaus Pennsylvania just to work there. I really love this mall
So many great memories of this place 😢
Hey. I enjoyed the video. Thanks for the content and hard work.
Appreciate it!!
Great video. I could feel your sadness. Very well done!
Thank you so much!!
@@RayOutThere thank you.
Wow I remember this place too from my high school days.
So many memories.
I wish I had a chance to see this mall. It looked so amazing. I love the neon. Great video
It was a good one back in the day. Seeing it fall to ruin was so sad

omg that mixing board is so cool
right!?
DEB! I use to spend soooo much money there. I loved that place. I am so sad that they all closed down.
This mall raised me 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 aaaaahhhhh Ray pass the tissues
I know! So sad.
I remember going there often in the 90s. Booming with people.
I just went by the mall a month ago, and it’s all leveled up flat gravel. The only thing that is standing alone is Kohl’s. This was my childhood mall!! 😢❤

Malls were so amazing back in the day.

Dead malls are just such a strange phenomenon. For people who grew up with them, we never expected them to end up like this
In the early 2000s I dated a girl for a few years who grew up in Phillipsburg. Went to the mall many times and it was always very crowded and busy. Amazing to see its downfall and destruction.
I love the ceiling fans & retail so the decaying shoe store with the fans made me sad😥
Ray it sad to see so many malls are closing
It makes me so sad
Holy hell I used to go there all the time with my grandma, what the hell time goes by fast.
It’s really a shame the owners refused to do a fixture sale. Back when they had the guards in the parking a year ago one of them did give a couple RadioShack letters but wouldn’t let me in the mall
That's a bummer
I remember walking through that Mall years ago.
It was a place trapped in time.
I been to this mall years ago.
Sadly nothing is left of Phillipsburg mall other than a pile of crushed concrete and dust. Those blue neon skylights was golden 😢😢😢 .. they only cut the power once demolition commenced 😢
The Sears was demolished after the roof caved in from too much snow. I don’t think we ever found out why the Bon Ton store was torn down.
I think it was just part of the planned demolition
I remember going there in the early 2000's and it would be packed with people. I miss the food court. I was just a kid at the time. Still went there until probably 2017 or 2018 to go to GameStop lmao but it was sad to see how dead it was

👍
Sad little Ernie.
What about the porcelain mouse, did you save it?
I would have loved to. Here's the thing, its not exactly legal to go in abandoned buildings. If I were to get caught doing it I could get in trouble, and if I'm taking something from a building, it could be a theft charge as well.
@@RayOutThere Oh Yes 100% i don't think of that.
In the 90s you could barely find parking during Christmas time.
I worked there in the 90's at suncoast video
Look up teens save the mall by Conner O’Malley, it’s the same mall
great use of mall soft
