Empowering Women Through Unconditional Cash Transfers

Emerging research has begun to rally around the use of cash transfers as a tool to alleviate poverty and increase women's economic empowerment. The Informal Women Cross Border Traders project that the Financial Sector Deeping Uganda, in partnership with Trademark Africa and 100WEEKS demonstrates that unconditional cash transfers are a valuable tool to improve women’s livelihood, productivity, and empowerment. It increases access to basic needs, reduces their survival stress, thus opening them up to learning opportunities, and enables them to save and invest.
