I finished the Cellar a week ago... everything you said about Laymon in your review of Flesh was just spot on. Brow-furrowing, jaw-dropping, mind-boggling trash that I couldn't put down. Glad to hear you also enjoyed it!
Laymon was the definition of “out of pocket” before the phrase was even coined! I always enjoy when an author doles out irreverence and tasteless weirdness when it feels like it comes from a sincere place, and Laymon seemed hopelessly devoted to his silly little books. I live for him.
I should do this challenge (I own a ton of books I haven't read), but it would probably take me 4-5 years at the rate I read and I'd probably literally die from being unable to buy new books.

the great god pan was like readings someones lucid dreams, i read it in winter in my village, mu houseis the last house on left like a movie, and there is a abandones hospital right infront of our house, it was really good atmosphere to read something like that in winter all alone.

I collect during the day...read at night. Took me a few years to balance both of them out...but I think I have worked it out just fine. With around 3000 books in my collection...I can never say I have nothing to read 😂
Yes, I think balance is everything, and I definitely needed some more of that lol. I counted my books while doing this challenge, and I own around 1,066! I’ve read 638 of them. 😬 I’ve been collecting them since I was 12, but I’ve given many away.

As usual, I'm left with more titles to add to my forever growing reading list. Loved the intro, although I got a bit mad at myself for being emotionally invested for a second. "He's joking, stop having genuine emotions about this. He Is Joking, brain, Come On." Also I loved to see that you enjoyed Fun Home. It's one of the few graphic novels that I own, and I've reread it numerous times. The older I get, the more it speaks to me. And, as a nonheterosexual coming from a family of bookish introverts riddled with mental health problems and private obsessions as well, it's eery to see the parallels between the author and myself. Another book that I can reread again and again and get something new and thought provoking from it every time is "Girl, Interrupted" by Susanna Kaysen. Have you ever read it? If not, I highly recommend it to you. It's a somehow both brutal and very tender, empathetic look at (American) psychiatry in the 60s, specifically experienced by a young woman. It brings up so many questions about what it means to be mentally ill, where mental illness comes from, who is really "normal" and whether this perceived "normality" should even be something to strive for or force people to strive towards. It's definitely one of my favourite books, if not The favourite book, I've ever read.

Clear, imperfect emotion like that just hits a lot stronger. It also resonated with me personally, which is always a beautiful thing. I’ve only seen the film adaptation of Girl, Interrupted. You make the book sound very intriguing. I’ll be adding it to the never-ending list!

So far my highlights are The Road by Cormac McCarthy, Tender is the Flesh (so disturbing) by Agustina Bazterrica, The Bighead by Lee Edwards, The Wasp Factory by Iain Banks, and Bastard Out of Carolina by Allison Dorothy. I would like to recommend R.I.P., by B., Charity my latest read, omg, it is seriously fk'd up. It has more triggers than an NRA convention. It has descriptions of sexual child abuse. Please be warned.

I liked Jack Ketchum's Red a lot. It's more if a dark drama than his usual horror. There's a movie too and it's oooookay lol
