    Maybe I got a bad set. I got less than 1/4 of a mile full of static and barley could hear when in communication. Returning them. My lips had to be right over the mic and 1” from the hand set so my voice could be heard. Tried noise canceling and I could not be heard on the other end. This was standing about 10 feet from the other handheld.

      I bought one and got it two days ago. Unfortunately, mine has the original software release and does not have the changes that Randy suggested to Baofeng. I downloaded the Baofeng software and had a little trouble loading the driver for my Win 7 PC but I finally got it. A pain in the butt to keep moving the screw from the cover to the cable. But I am very happy with it. Works well.

    Could you explain why the radio has a range of about a 1/2 mile but yet it can communicate with a repeater 30 miles away ?

    • @TheNotaRubicon
      @TheNotaRubicon  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The half mile range was between radios, both of which have tiny antennas, and both of which were low to the ground, with many trees, hills, and buildings between them. The repeaters have giant antennas and are atop mountains, with nothing between it and the radio.

    Here's the facts I just bought these to make the jump from cb and honestly they are worth the money I got mine for $49 shipped with promotion so shop around there's deals to be had ,
    here's what I got from real world testing 8 miles clear line of site From one peak to another and 2 miles clear inside of wood frame houses. Fldigi works fine,
    Fun fact you can toggle the rxtx light even when audio transmission is poor so in a pinch you can do Morse over these even with bad reception somewhere around ,3 miles out
    Its built well and easy to understand. I was sent a 1 pin programing cable for $15 more it's got radiodditys logo on the plastic it came in looks legit not sure if it's the correct cable no windows PC to test Linux solution please? VM is a option in the meantime.
    Nice radio feels tuff fits in your pocket won't break.

    Would you do a test of the sound cancellation when using a headset?
    We do a lot of ATV treks and utilize headsets or in helmet comms which pick up a lot of noise from the ATVs. If the noise cancellation works with headsets that would likely push me to get a pair to test out.

    Hi. I’ve read on other forums that there is a recently passed rule enabling DATA on GMRS.
    The Motorola T800 already has this feature but it can only send data - texting - to other T800. But its transmit power is pathetic 0.75W.
    Please make a video explaining what the data rules allow, what COULD be achieved data-wise given the new rules.

    2 watts;
    permanently fixed antenna,
    0.5 watts and Narrow Band on Channels 8-14 (from programming software),
    listed under "LICENSE-FREE SERIES" on Radioddity's Download page (for software and manual).
    Looks like these qualify for use on the unlicensed FRS Channels AND they appear to include the ability to use Channels 23-30 for GMRS repeater use for licensed GMRS operators as well:
    Bubble-Pack HTs AND GMRS Repeater capable! 🤔

    Hi there. I have been watching all of your videos regarding GMRS radios trying to determine which to get. I have a pair of Baofeng UV-82s and have tested them via repeater to have a range of over 30 miles. BUT... I don't want to have to go through the hassle of the Ham licensing as my intention for having radios is for emergency use. I'm ok with getting the GMRS "permit", however. I am searching for radios that could reach 10-15 miles if not more when necessary. Is there a brand/model that you could suggest for those parameters? Thanks for the great content and information on your channel.

    • @TheNotaRubicon
      @TheNotaRubicon  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Range is highly dependent on your terrain when using GMRS (UHF) - Any 5W GMRS walkie talkie can easily reach 15 miles in good conditions (line of site) ... But if you want to talk 15 miles through hills/mountains/buildings/trees you may need a more powerful GMRS radio or try VHF (ham)

    Hi, Randy. Let's get this over, once and fer all, okay? Radioddity is a five, syllable word. It's pronounced RAY-DEE-ODD-IH-TEE. You can pronounce ODDITY, right? You can put RAY-DEE in front of it, and that, as they say, is all she wrote.
    Radioddity should take that Baofeng lady and have her say Welcome to Radioddity! every time the radio is turned on! And they should give me a couple of _FREE_ radios for this deceptively simple idea, because they know you're a deceptively simple man and there's nothing wrong with that. (And I _never_ get any _FREE_ stuff.)
    As my grandpappy used to say, live and learn, even if it is only five syllables. (That part about the syllables was my addition. He couldn't pronounce "syll-áh-bulls.") 🔹🌞🌙✨
