Judas saw Jesus as a conquering Messiah. He thought he would be one of Jesus’ lieutenants. When he realized he was more apt to die with Jesus than lead a rebellion the devil entered him.
Tradition says when he hung himself the tree branch broke with him falling down the ravine into a road where an unstoppable carriage hit him and disemboweled him.
This story destroys the teaching of “once saved, always saved” doctrine.
