I get goosebumps whenever I listen to this hymn, tears come down from my eyes and my heart trembles! From the moment I heard this hymn, it became instantly my favorite hymn. But what gave me goosebumps more was the story behind it, am having goosebumps as I type this. This beautiful song was written by Annie Smith, a young Adventist editor. Annie was called by Mr James white (Ellen's White's husband) to work with his brother as one of the journal editors and writer. Annie was gifted with many gifts and writing was one of her gifts. She moved to the city where she was supposed to work from. Annie then met a young man who she fell in love with. They loved each other, but unfortunately the man broke her heart when he refused to marry and told her that he loves another woman. Annie was devastated, disappointed and went through depression. Annie asked Mr white if she could be working from her hometown after the disappointment. Mr White permitted her. She became infected with Tuberculosis (TB). By then, it was hardly incurable. Ms Annie wrote about 7 hymns. She fell sick, with depression and disappointment rumbling on her, she wrote this song. She said, she's only looking forward to the great day when the savior will come. HOW FAR FROM HOME??? she died peacefully in the Lord. This song she composed during her dark days and remains one of the most played songs in SDA. HOW FAR FROM HOME!!!!!!???
For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. 1 John 5:4 KJV We don't have to wait for eternity for victory.
