The problem is the Democrats really didn’t give a crap about education. If they did they would have more cops in the school so teachers feel safe when you have female teachers who are 5 foot 2 trying to teach 6 foot 220-year-old male students who were talking perverted to themand then nothing really happens. How can a teacher do her job? It is ridiculous. They need to be protected better. We need at least two cops for every school so that when the kids wanna get violent, they know business.

Homeschooling our kids was the best decision I have ever made. My wife and I had some tough times going down to 1 income and then her basically having no money for any entertainment. She said to me the other day she was so happy she didn't have to worry about a COVID shot or worry about getting her hair and nails done to go to work. She wakes up, spends the day with the kids, gets some free time occasionally on the weekends. We spend more time together, and the COVID school shutdowns had ZERO EFFECT on us. It was a blessing. Now we have recovered in our income and our kids are reading 2 or 3 grade levels above where they were. Amazing. Withdraw your consent for this crap and educate your children. If your state doesn't allow it, time to move. What is more important than educating and training your kids?

I was a Director of a preschool and daycare center in Georgia, a Quality Rated personnel came in to observe and give directions on what to improve. She said the 2 year old class should not be forced to sit and listen to story time. Story time is no more than a 15 minute activity that helps with focusing, listening, language and thinking skills. For the 3-4 year olds she said the teacher could not forbid the amount of kids at a center. In other words if 13 boys wanted to be in a 4x5 space with wooden blocks then that was what was to be done. In other words she left instructions for kids to do as they wished whenever they wished and whatever they wished. As soon as she left i told the teachers to continue as was. Teacher sets order and teaches important skills not allow kids to take charge of the classrooms and have chaos and kids getting hurt bc they are allowed to rule the classrooms.

We never got to see the inside of that room. To us kids, because we were little, it was like some mystery room, lol. There is a better way to get more teachers who are already experienced and able to become teachers- look at those already working within the system that just can’t afford the college classes- I help kids learn to read- write-comprehension and then help with math- I work with students who are 2/4 grade levels behind-

Public school Kindergarten teacher here. I would homeschool but not really for the reasons you listed. The Basic Skills test is graded differently than most tests. In Illinois they had changed the grading and made it a bit more difficult resulting in potential teachers failing They had to change it back. I knew many well educated teachers that couldn't pass it because of the grading system. This national teacher shortage is causing districts to become desperate though. Yes, the indoctrination is happening in some districts, but more importantly the fact that your child is meant to sit there for long hours and go through with a curriculum that offers little to no hands on, playful learning leaves children uninterested and uninspired in school. I have seen really good districts fall to this method leaving me convinced that they are trying to dumb down our children and take the spark out of learning.

What does this mean? The philosophy majors have zero clue about bias and historical writing. They will present district test questions that are historically false-for a district mandated history test. If it aligns with the philosophy-it doesn’t have to be historically accurate-in a history class.

Average elementary teacher salary in California is $51K & $52 in New Jersey. The average you gave of $81 for Caifornia, included colleges & state universities. Most of the money we pay in taxes to invest in good teachers does not go to the children - it's a slush fund for other political agendas. The money laudering of our funds not going into the elementary teachers to afford a living wage & defunding most of their support tools, why would someone actually consider it as a career? My daughter teacher preschool, they pay her less per hour than a cashier at Walmart & she has to come up with money out of pocket for supplies. It's another reason parents are home schooling - the good teachers cannot afford to be teachers. Filliing in the spots with lower standards does what for who? Who benefits from not paying fair salaries to golden standard elementary teachers?

    This is absolutely mental.
Here in the UK our totally dysfunctional government decided to remove the VAT exemption from private schools, basically meaning if you pay to send your kids to a private school rather than a state school, you'll now pay 20% VAT on top of the school fees. As a result, a lot of parents won't be able to afford the extra cost so will have to remove their kids from private schools and send them to state schools.
The problem with this is that state schools are already creaking at the seams, so will struggle to cope with the extra demand. Surely any sensible government would incentivise families to send their kids to private schools, thus reducing the burden on state schools.
The Labour government try to justify this move by saying the tax raised will enable them to employ 6,500 new teachers. Two problems with this is that 1) 6,500 new teachers amounts to only 0.2 extra teachers per school and 2) we don't have 6,500 teachers sitting on their hands waiting for new jobs, so it's likely that the qualifying criteria to become a teacher will be reduced, just as in the case highlighted in this video.

I’m a K-8 art teacher in NC. This is unbelievable. I’ve been teaching art since 2010. My students learn art history, fundamentals of art & design and progress to a collegiate level project by the time they are in 7th grade. Some people even in education think art is an optional subject. My goal and my passion is to create a curriculum that is entertaining, educational and practical for real world issues. How can the people making the decisions covered in this segment live with their lack of care and conviction? It is our future and the future of our children on the line. We need more people who are passionate about improving the education system. These people have an attitude that is insidious and cancerous. May the DOGE have the desired effect.

I agree standards shouldn’t be lowered, it’s possible to pass those tests, I was a c student and I passed it. Second, education has to be reformed including universities!!!!! Teachers also need higher quality professional development , many of it is a joke! I gave my 11 years of service. How did you get into and graduate from college if you can't read, write, and do math? I wish the panel would have discussed what these tests cover. I don't mind dropping the tests, but I do agree that standards for teachers should increase, and with that there salary (a whole new can of worms to discuss). Other means exist, beside a test, to see if people are capable of teaching. Unfortunately, those methods take more time and therefor more money. As a side note, I'm homeschooling my kids. Lastly, the biggest influence kids need is there parents. Time for parents to raise their kids and not expect schools to do it. Boom... Second can or worms open.
