    Keep your smaller Amazon shipping boxes, use them for mock-up buildings or the core of a building.

    I use all of these. My wife is a quilter so I always looks for any possible tools when I got with her to the fabric store. They have mini clips that work well for holding things together. Have also found ground up walnut shells that make great ballast or scenery material.

      Did you know that Woodland Scenics ballast is just dyed ground walnut shells?

    My local Army/Navy store has dental picks, forceps (hemostats), tweezers, and scissors for those preppers who use them in first aid and surgical kits. Usually they're $2-$3 each.

      That’s a source I hadn’t considered. Although I’m not sure I know where there is an Army/Navy store near me…

    Joe, I get or ( have ) double use for a fingernail file. The hard paper type. After the file has worn down, and all the grit has completely worn away, I use the paper part as, spacers, crossties or cut to fit bracing in DIY structure modeling. I really don't like to throw anything into the trash when I can get double use from an item. This saves both time and money.

      Love the idea about using them for bracing. I will keep that in mind!

    Emery boards are also amazing at getting corrosion/rust off parts of loco’s while doing maintenance. I got that off my local train shops repair guy and man you should see what fake off an Athearns Rubber band and reg i am restoring!

      A tip, don’t throw the emery board out, they can actually be used for walls, roofs and such on something one wants looking worn down before weathering a structure. I’ve seen people use them in building a few years back with old ones collected

      Thanks for the tips. More reasons to love emery boards!

    Thanks, nice tips on the tools. I use the me too method, when the bride is getting emery boards or make up brushes I just say oh, can you get me one too. It goes unnoticed and doesn’t get attributed to the railroad budget. Lol.

    nice group of tools, my go to is magnets and abc blocks I do a lot of scratch building in N scale. Get my magnets at the hardware store under 4.00 for 4.

      @joeparker70 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      What type of magnets? Do you have a magnetic jig, or do you just use the magnets with the blocks?
