Did you finally use up the gallon of p.b blaster I sent you. New carb available. Rattle is normal for those supposed to sound like a sherman tank when driving slow to make the enemy think a tank is comming to get them..

I have a comment about your ghostbuster Hearst it really more incoming with another hearst from the state of Texas . Your hearst looked like the Hearst the took JFK from the hospital in Dallas to the airport he was shot in 1963 but the funeral home that sold the casket for transport just bought a brand new 1964 Hearst that was almost identical to yours before you chopped it up to the ghostbuster. The real hearst was sold at Barret Jackson auction. There is a You Tube channel called (Ask a mortician) that shows several pictures of that car a tells a pretty wild story of what happened that day. One of the crazy things that day the secret service basically stold the Hearst and took JFK to the airport. So I think your Hearst is a ghost busters plus

My dad had a 1953 Willys Overland wagon with the 4 cyl. F-head motor like yours. Also 3 speed & twin stick transfer case. Almost every week-end during summer months towed a trailer heavily loaded with tree branches & logs. No problem!

Glad to see you got the old girl running!! I have a 47 CJ2A that I just finished rebuilding the entire drive train on. I believe those CJ3bs still used the t90 transmission and spicer 18 transfer case. There isn’t much to those transmissions, just a simple 3 speed and parts are readily available. Biggest thing to watch out for is the 2-3 shifting collar. They wear out over time, in turn causing the jeep to pop out of second on deaccleration. It’s a fun time packing the 88 little needle bearings into the cluster gear/counter shaft! If it were me I’d fix the transmission, brakes and just use it as an off-road rig! The f head engine design always intrigues me, mine has the l head go devil l134.

The British Rover 90 6 cylinder engine had the same side-valve/overhead valve system. A four cylinder version was used on the first Landrovers, then a conventional overhead valve four cylinder then the side valve/overhead valve six cylinder engine. The ignition timing on the six cylinder engine was in retard at idle speeds. They would produce power right down to stalled which made power control superbly manageable offroad. However performance was not all that great compared to the emerging Toyota Landcuisers and Nissan Patrols of two-thirds to nearly twice the cubic displacement.

Wasn't aware the valves were split between the head and block.

This motor was called the f head. It was an overnight, head designed to fit the flat head motor, 1/2 the valves overhead, more horsepower. It transitioned willeys/ overland flathead to ohv. This was done while Keiser owned Willeys jeep.

So appreciate your videos. Wish they came out more often though when you have to deal with these stuck engines and wait a week or more to them just to allow them marinade it's understandable. So thankful as well not to hear any cussing and ribald comments as are in a lot of these types of sites. Times I can't stand it and just pull out and delete. As said before I am here in Eastern Europe and so a treat for me to have something to enjoy. More so as now with the war going on and we doing all we can with refugees and orphans. Could use some prayers... as hey... on where can I ask for prayer anywhere else? Thanks...

Love your videos. I know you don't show everything, but while the head is off, do you pull the valves to clean them and the seats and at least lap them? I figured as rusty as it was, the seats might be pitted, and cleaning and lapping would give you the maximum compression you could get.

  • @MilesVanlife
    @MilesVanlife 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I must be missing something. I’ve watched about a dozen of your videos at this point and not to throw shade or troll you, but you don’t actually “restore” the vehicles you find. You get them running yes…but is that restoring them ? IMO no, it’s not. Here’s what I would be interested in seeing you do actually restoring a project vehicle from start to factory finish and that includes REPLACING all the parts that are rusted, and manufacturing ones that you can’t buy. THAT would be a full restoration.

I would really like to see this old girl restored and whatever y'all do, PLEASE get rid of that old S-10 or Postal Jeep steering wheel. Someone probably replaced the entire steering column and steering rack to adapt it to power steering. I'd get it running as well as possible, replace the tires, clean everything up underneath, convert it all back to OEM specs, strip it all down to bare metal, and give it an olive drab paint job like it was originally. It was never meant to be a daily driver, it was built to be a workhorse for use of our armed forces. It's your Willys, so y'all do whatever you want. I'm just stating my own personal opinion.

Dang man, I wish my dad and I could've worked on cars together, but by the time I knew enough to work on many different cars I was in my late teens, early 20s and my dad was in his 50s, and we lived 1000 miles apart. I left home at 14, returned when I was 16 due to being diagnosed with cancer and thats what my mom wanted, survived that, and left home again at 18 when my dad said something really ignorant about me living with them when I was 18. My dad isn't the same way that he used to be these days. He's in his early 70s and we get along well now. He told my mom that he regretted not spending more time with me when I was a kid, but I have alot of good memories with my father. Being a kid you never understand your dad and why he does what he does, but my dad took me to computer conventions (which was a shared interest, I had my first computer when I was 4), car shows, we went bowling a few times, and we always had a good time, but it wasn't until I was older and became a father myself that I understood him and why he did the things that he did. We are exactly alike, the same attitude, the same tendencies, the same basic build, the same looks, and the same goes for my firstborn son, but we all get a little sprinkle of our mother's attributes thrown in for added measure. My son looks like me, I look like my dad, my dad looks like his dad, and so on. Enjoy your time with your father brother. Time goes by WAY too fast.

Something that seems to work really well for Puddin on Puddin's Fab Shop TH-cam channel is a mixture of ATF and Vinegar to free up them old locked up engines. I've seen him get some really locked up engines freed using his patented mixture. lol You might want to contact him on the mixture he uses cause I dont think he have disclosed that info to us on his channel.

You may have to pull the head to get to the rest of the valves. They might be the ones that are stuck.

Yes, it's an F-head. 4 valves in the head, and 4 valves in the block. Due to the taller height of the F-head engine, the cowl/hood had to be raised up, thus the CJ3B version.

What would happen if , instead of vinegar, you pored Evap-O-Rust down in the cylinders?
I would also check for water in the differentials.

I have a 46 Cj2a.... The only problem is that I live in the northern US, so everything is rusted out - except for what the previous owner (before my grandfather) replaced with aluminum (because it rusted out) Last tags were from 84 and I started working on it 2021. Hood was down, clutch and brake pedals were frozen. Got a good battery and it fired right up. Cleaned points and checked spark plugs to get it running, but it really wanted to come alive.

I bet ole Dennis Collins would pay you well for that old high hood. He jumps at the chance to collect antique jeeps. Just look up coffee walk on you tube if you'd like to sell it.
