    That whole sotryline of that epilogue is cringy and stupid as all hell. That whole "ascencion to godhood" is just weird and a literal deus ex machina. But the missions are actually great. A big spectacle with all 3 races. All that is missing is the presence of our favourite Highlord.

    • @s.m.2523
      @s.m.2523 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The ascention to XelNagahood itself isn't that out of nowhere, I mean it is somewhat foreshadowed during LOTV when Artanis read the prophecy saying how the cycle woks (blah blah two races will merge) and all... (Not a fan of the fact they made the Xel Naga litteral god figures rather than jsut very advanced aliens but that ship had sailed a long time ago anyway).
      But the way it's done is corny and I agree on cringy as hell, did she really ahve to turn into a glowing angel like figure who shoot beams of pure energy and kill Amon by snapping her fingers ? (okay slightly exagerating but barely)
      But in a way I'd say it is very much in the same 'epic space fntausy' tone that the entirety of Starcraft 2.. so it wasn't exactly a surprise. And as Jay said during his first playthrough it does tie sort of neatly a lot of dangling plot elements.
      Agree it's Kinda a shame Alarak isn't here. I mean it's not like hurting Amon wasnt sort of his main stated motivation for joining the protossaliance in the main ca:paign. You'd think he'd be invited for this.

    • @AzureIV

    • @thatguy9419
      @thatguy9419 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I always considered it odd that they spoke of the two races that would ascend together (Purity of Form AND Essence) but only Kerrigan became Xel Naga... all the time i believed that Artanis and her would fuse. But that can just be me misunderstanding the whole thing.

    • @ethan1142028
      @ethan1142028 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thatguy9419 Also Zerg have purity of essence already ... and that space blob definitely doesn't have purity of form. So it's even the wrong races merging

    • @Draeckon
      @Draeckon 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That Guy ethan1142028 I think the implication is supposed to be that the Terrans, not the Protoss and possibly even the Zerg, were supposed to be one of the two destined races. It’s never directly said, but can be inferred from bits and pieces of dialogue. Most of it comes from this very Epilogue so it’s setup kind of clumsily, but there’s also things to be inferred from as far back as WoL. Protoss and Zerg were forcefully ascended to Destined status by Amon.
      - Terrans can use/interface with Xel’Naga technology. This would be easier to parse if there were ever any other sapient races shown in the main games rather than simply hinted at or shown in the books, but as we see in WoL with the Keystone, Terrans are capable of working with Xel’Naga tech, which is supposed to be the purview of Protoss and Zerg. It’s not made clear until LotV that this is important where Ulnar (which is Xel’Naga tech) supposedly only reacts to the presence of the Destined.
      - The references to the two races mentions purity of essence and purity of form. One which is capable of change and one capable of vast psionic potential. The existence of ghosts/specters, some of which are incredibly powerful (Kerrigan for example), suggests Terrans were eventually set to fulfill the Purity of Form role. Possibly even both roles at once, considering our ability to adapt over time - we certainly didn’t have psionics all the time.
      - Bits of dialogue from Narud in particular in this very mission. He refers to the Terrans as “the failed experiment of a flawed cycle.” The Terrans were the eventual destined of the uncorrupted Xel’Naga. There’s also something to be said that Narud/Duran and Amon take advantage of the Terrans as much as they do... They represent their hated enemies, the uncorrupted Xel’Naga and the cycle they’re trying to eliminate. It must have seemed like the sweetest form of revenge to Amon that he’s using the Xel’Naga’s own neutered Destined to usher in his victory. It would also explain why the Overmind, all the way back in Sc1/BW, went after Terran worlds precisely for their psionic potential...
      - Because of these factors and the fact that Zerg essence had merged with her body, Kerrigan in this moment fulfills both the role of Purity of Essence and Purity of Form at the same time. A body capable of vast psionic power and an indomitable essence capable of great change. As such, she could become a Xel’Naga without the need for the Protoss. Though even here, it didn’t work quite right. Remember that this is how the Xel’Naga procreated... but here a Xel’Naga had to basically sacrifice himself to fully realize her transformation - likely because of her Terran side not quite meeting the criteria as much as needed.
      I bash on the SC2 story a lot and Amon’s involvement in particular. But one of the few things about this Xel’Naga lore change I actually kind of like is the idea that the Terrans were supposed to be one of the Destined, but had their role stolen from them by Amon. They can’t quite stand up to what’s happening on their own because it’s happening too soon - they’re not ready for it yet. The signs are there, but they as a species aren’t at their full potential yet. Just as the Protoss and Zerg weren’t ready yet when the Xel’Naga/Amon found them on their homeworlds and forcefully uplifted them.
      Another bit of Duran/Narud’s dialogue also suggests that Amon (and possibly the Xel’Naga as a whole) has been aware of the Terrans from the very beginning. “You should have died on your forgotten, cold world.” I think this is a low-key reference to Earth’s Ice Age, when we as a species were still very much in our infancy/very young. Amon didn’t use Terrans for his plan then because the Xel’Naga had their eye on them and would have caught on to him too early. He only started using them after he’d killed the Xel’Naga and didn’t have to worry about their interference anymore.

    • @seawind930
      @seawind930 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      When Tassadar sacrificed himself to kill the overmind at the end of SC1 he was destroying a creature that would devour all life, but at the start of SC2 we see him saying he is alive and calling the Overmind a hero for making Kerrigan. It made it seem that he would work behind the scenes or maybe come back to life back to life to help fight Amon. Instead we got a squid who used his form because he was shy, apparently according to the squid the Overmind was trying to fight Amon so Tassadar's sacrifice was meaningless. So Tassadar is still dead and Zeratul dies so that Artanis can have a tragic anime backstory and fight on with the power of friendship. It is a big let down and oh yeah that evil character that betrayed and killed all those people in SC1? she's now a goodguy for no real reason other than someone had to become a spacewhale.

      I think it shows how insecure Blizzard was in SC2’s writing. They really did waffle on a number of things in this series, from the ‘choices’ given to you in WoL to the lore changes brought to fruition in LotV. Also Alarak’s absence in this Epilogue is very noticeable. They clearly didn’t plan on making this mini-campaign when they first secured actors for LotV. Otherwise why wouldn’t he be here? But yeah, ‘Tassadar’ turning out to be an impostor, “reviving” Fenix (they still have Talandar named Fenix in Co-Op commanders, which is a real disconnect between story and gameplay)... bringing back Stukov had already been setup in a little known third-party, but canon BW map, so that one passes. I’m just glad they didn’t bring back Rhazsagal. _That_ would have been super cringe.

    • @Centurian128

      @@Draeckon With regards to Fenix, the Co-op missions occur (as far as I know) through the course of the LotV campaign. Fenix only decides to change his name going into the final reclamation of Aiur, the last couple of missions. Him calling himself Fenix in the Coop mission is correct for that timeline of events. There is also an option late in a match for him to change his name to Talandar, cost 25 minerals if I remember correctly. I haven't played a Coop game in ages though.
