@@SquaulDuNeant There were no timestamps made for this video and I kinda felt responsible to make one. There should be a different comment somewhere that includes all ranged weapons and ammunition.
@@mavromavro4892 Thank you for doing this. This turns this video into an easy reference guide to drill into specific weapon types or individual weapons. One note about the Mace of Disruption, it can be updated by Cromwell in SoA. Not sure if Cespenar can also upgrade it, as you state, but you don't need to wait until ToB to upgrade.
I love the duality of, "These weapons are trash, you shouldn't use 'em, and if you do, you should feel bad." and, "At the end of the day use whatever you want, anything works, and take everything I say with a handful of salt"

Amazing guide. S+ tier for sure. Can’t say enough good things about it. You don’t have to use it if you don’t want to. If you want to go ahead and RP as a suicide bomber with the Club of Detonation go for it. I mean you do you man. The worlds your oyster. Still S+ tier guide. Can’t say enough good things about it.
@@happyjonn9242 you don't have to powergame, but it's also extremely disappointing to get to high levels and have a very underpowered build There's definitely a happy medium in-between the two
That's the thing about the classics. Unless they were a huge, crowd pleasing hit, you don't find much in the way of guides. I love that there are people out there who have the passion to do guides like this
17:57 "This will work on Kangaxx" Before someone says something, yes, Kangaxx in his Demi-Lich form is immune to +3 weapons. Azuredge will do no damage to him, but still force a save and kill him in that form (in addition to killing him like it does to any and all liches). 47:41 "Darkfire Bow is Watcher's Keep" uhhh close but not really at all. Darkfire Bow is held by Captain Erelon in Amkethran, where he and his mercs are summoning and shooting monsters to death. Talk to him too many times and he gets pissed and tries to kill you, and he drops the bow upon death. Watcher's Keep would make this available in SoA and that'd be _really_ good but you only get this bow halfway through Throne of Bhaal. 49:55 I feel the need to add to this little section on Heartseeker. When Dav says that Darkfire Bow is amazing purely for its Improved Haste ability but Heartseeker sucks when it purely exists for its +7 to-hit Aim ability, there's a caveat he forgot to add: Heartseeker's +7 to hit ability, in addition to only lasting 9 seconds, only applies to _ranged_ weapons. Nothing else. If you activate its Aim ability you can swap to a better bow for 9 seconds of decent THAC0, but that 18 Strength requirement kills it for a lot of classes. At best this item can be used by Thieves who could really use the THAC0 bonus and are equipped with a strength-boosting item to get them to that necessary Strength score. 9 Seconds of a Thief attacking with a +7 bonus to-hit for 9 seconds on ranged weapons is pretty decent, definitely useful if you need them to hit something since their THAC0 blows, but if you try to use Aim and swap to melee weapons on any character you can confirm in the inventory screen that you are not, at all, getting any THAC0 bonuses on melee weapons. That said, Tuigan Bow's 3 base APR combines well with this if you swap a strength belt onto a thief to activate Aim. 54:23 There is another, second copy of Tansheron's Bow that's used by Cattie Brie, a member of Drizzt's party. It differs in its icon and artwork being identical to the Shortbow +1, and because it's one of Drizzt's party's items if you possess it in an inventory or bag of holding after dealing with Bodhi, Malchor Harpell will show up and attempt to confiscate all of Drizzt's party's items. If you attempt to bamboozle him by dropping items he'll reappear three times and on the third he will attempt to Imprison your whole party. You can bypass that by using things like Spell Trap, Spell Immunity:Abjuration, Spell Turning, Berserker Enrage, etc., but he will teleport onto every map from that point on and attempt to talk to you but has no dialogue, so he will break every script ever and break your game. _However_ Malchor doesn't appear at all in Throne of Bhaal, and won't appear until after you clear Bodhi's Lair a second time and only appears if you carry any of the unique equipment from Drizzt's party. So if you take all that unique equipment to Watcher's Keep and dump all of it into a chest you can keep Twinkle, Icingdeath, the second Tansheron's Bow, and all the uniquely named junk and pick it up after you first leave Saradush. Tansheron's Bow x2 and Shortbow of Gesen is really only useful in a triple-thief party but it's there if you want to do that. 59:04 Special note, Arrows of Biting are magical. All non-basic ammunition is counted as magical, and they have differing enchantment levels. Creatures like ghosts that are immune to normal weapons will still be hit by Arrows of Biting, but since the Arrow of Biting is enchanted with an enchantment level of 0 anything specifically immune to +1 is immune to them. 59:50 Arrow of Detonation can miss. THAC0 doesn't matter when you use the AoD because it gives you +65,535 to your attack roll. I'm serious, a level 1 thief with 9 DEX using a shortbow he isn't proficient in will still hit any enemy in the game with this. But since there's a d20 attack roll there is still that 5% chance you roll a 1 and your Arrow of Detonation just happens to be a dud. Of special note is that because the fireball from the Arrow of Detonation is from a weapon it applies any and all on-hit effects. A Wizard Slayer can apply their Miscast Magic to every enemy hit by the explosion, Assassins and Blackguards can somehow apply poison to every enemy hit by the explosive arrow. 1:04:00 How do you miss with a -15 bonus to attack on an Ogre Mage? There's only one in all of BG1 but I use that thing to kill Kahrk on every playthrough and I have yet to miss once. 1:14:40 The Army Scythe also appears in BG1 in the Thunderhammer Smithy. That's definitely another point for Crossbows since you can buy one in BG1 that has the same APR as all bows. 1:17:00 This cannot be obtained at all except as random drop loot in the base unmodded game, and even then across four entire playthroughs of BG1 I have only gotten two of those bolts and only once one single time across 2 playthroughs of BG2, each on a different playthrough. _However_ of special note is that the final boss of Siege of Dragonspear is an enemy with immunity to +2 weapons and lower, and he has 80% Magic Resistance that is upped to 100% on any difficulty above Core. There's a number of ways to lower his MR but since Doom and Greater Malison stack, you can combine those with Enchant Weapon to possibly use one of these bolts to drop his HP to 4. Then shoot him one more time and he's dead. 1:39:13 I'd argue Daggers are the best proficiency for Fighter/Druids, especially Fighter->Druid main characters. Their only other 1-handed options are Scimitars/Wakizashis/Ninjatos and Clubs, and those two weapon classes suck. I've been playing a Kensai with the intent to dual to Druid and I can tell you there is no let-down to Daggers. A 1d4 dagger does 2.5 less average damage than a 2d4 bastard sword, that is pitiful and not worth throwing the entire class of weapon out for. Firetooth being a 2d4 +1 APR main-hand weapon is nuts. 2:55:53 The description on the page blatantly says it only generates ammo that counts as +1, it might do the _damage_ of +2 bullets but it won't hit Vampires. Also of note in the original BG1 (with or without Tales of the Sword Coast) and BG2 slings didn't add Strength bonuses to damage, but the Sling of Seeking was the only one that did. Since the Enhanced Editions changed all slings to use Strength damage this weapon got reworked to be an infinite +1 ammo weapon. 3:05:20 The Rod of Terror used to have a little exploit that got patched out in the Enhanced Editions: if you were equipped with the Ring of Human Influence which set your Charisma to 18 and attacked with the Rod of Terror until you hit a base Charisma of -1 it would instead roll over and make your Charisma score the max of 25. Now in the EE if you go down to zero you stay there and if you ever take off the Ring of Human Influence while you have 0 base Charisma you die. 3:06:09 Oddly enough the Serpent Shaft is the only way a Cleric can deal poison damage. 3:14:29 Just a clarification, the Staff of Thunder and Lightning is obtained at two points; one after defeating Faldorn during the Animal Trouble in Trademeet quest (which everyone can do) and the other on the main floor of Spellhold. You do _not_ have to be a Druid to get this. 3:46:47 Albruin is not +3, right there in the name it's +1. It adds 3 damage, yes, but the coded enchantment level often does not match the damage that the normal pen-and-paper D&D would have. If you attempt to hit Belhifet at the end of Siege of Dragonspear with Albruin you will not hurt him. 3:48:51 Foebane was broken during the 2.5 patch where they messed up Larloch's Minor Drain. LLMD would add 4 current and temporary hitpoints but would not stack upon itself and when the temporary HP from LLMD was active you could not heal from additional LLMDs, so Foebane could only heal you for 4 HP once per turn. That's fixed as of 2.6. The fix for it was to take a copy of the weapon's files from Icewind Dale and dump them into an override folder in your BG2 directory, same with Flail of Ages (which had a bug where any enemy immune to specifically the poison head was immune to the entire weapon, also fixed in the unmodded EE game as of patch 2.6). Also, you missed three weapons. You missed Embarl's Dagger, the legendary unenchanted dagger that uses the mighty d6 damage die, you missed the Fist, equipped by default on every character that exists, and you missed the Monk's Fist, the most powerful godslaying universe-rending weapon of devastation so powerful that it is locked behind the late-game powerhouse. EDIT: Whoa, I actually just noticed after thinking things through, you missed a crucial weapon: You never mentioned The Burning Earth, the +1 fiery longsword that gets bonuses against different creatures including +4 against undead. It's the most expensive weapon you can import from BG1 to BG2 and it can be used to kill Demi-Liches since it counts as +4. That seems like a bit of an oversight.
Small note about Bala's Axe as well: you can get two of those, one in the planar sphere and one in Irenicus' dungeon as imported weapon for a character who has points in axes.
Aren't there several Ogre Mages? Like one in the sewers, like 5 or 6 that gank you outside of CandleKeep, one holding a Sirine hostage I think, and one around Firewine Bridge? Unless those others aren't maybe classified as Ogre Mages?
I've been playing this game for almost 10 years and only after your guides I finally understand how weapon speed works, how attack per round calculated with off hand, how +1 extra attack from special equipment works... Christ I feel like an idiot now :) Thank you for these guides.
@@powned100100 Weapons speed the lower the number the better Zero being the best which means you're going to hit as soon as your character is in range and swings their blade but a higher number say 5 would mean that there is some lag to how long it will take before your character actually attacks If you're holding two weapons You have a primary weapon which will be in your right hand And a offhand weapon which will be in your left if a weapon says it increases your number of attacks per round it will always affect the weapon in your right hand even if the weapon giving the bonus is in the left hand so it is beneficial to put the items giving that bonus in the left hand while you use the right hand for actually dealing damage And in general plus to the number of attacks well first off I need to point out that although the game seems to be playing out in real time it's actually turn based and what you're seeing is kind of an illusion in fact I believe a lot of the times you're swinging your weapon you're not actually attacking You can only attack a certain number of times within a certain time limit I forget what the time limit is but I think the number of times you can attack within that is capped at 5 or 10 if you're using improved haste so it's generally good to be having attribute that increase your number of attacks in fact increasing your tax speed can be more useful than just increasing your raw attack damage as it's better to do six points of damage twice then it would be to do 10 points of damage once you've got it there are a few things that will add half an attack around you need two of these before it does anything if you have just 1/2 attack per round you're not actually going to get more attacks
I finally did it. I found the smartest person there is regarding Bauldurs Gate. I had vague memories as a child playing this with my grandfather teaching me how, but I have greater memories of Diablo 2 and Heroes of Might and Magic so I couldn't actually remember what game that was all that time ago. Upon Bauldurs Gate 3 coming out, I felt my brain tingle a bit and looked up Bauldurs Gate 1. Wow, I have spent the last month playing this and now finally I have found the man that knows everything about the game. I have needed a guide like this for so long because a vast majority of those old forums cannot be viewed anymore and all I can seem to ever find information on is the newly released Bauldurs Gate 3. I thank you so much for your services.
Firetooth dagger is especially awesome because it allows say, Cavaliers to go ranged outside of Azuredge, which is only good vs undead. Also, it's a ranged weapon that gets 2D4 base damage, recieves STR bonuses, counts as +3 Ammo *and* does elemental damage to go through stoneskin.
These guides and play throughs are rekindling my love of Baldur’s Gate again, it’s also really interesting to hear your take on some of the spell and weapon mechanics as well, it covers stuff that I’d not thought of before. A ‘Best Armour/Companion Guide’ would also be so cool to see ;)
Thank you for your time making this mate not only is it so in depth over 4 hours but at the same time your enthusiasm etc makes it a really entertaining yet educational listen while I'm at work
Thanks for another awesome guide! For your completionism: - armor guide - companion guide Maybe a “monster guide”? You brought up some interesting stuff like using a certain weapon against balors because of some special attack they have. Is there enough content monster wise for a video about how their special attacks work / what to look out for? I feel like that would be awesome.
The reviews you've done for classes and stuff have really helped me take what I want. I've been constantly starting and restarting, because I don't know what I want to do, but with the guides I'm finally going to go kensai with either axes or long sword
Use Greater Deathblow with Blackrazor. As you’ve drained that dragon to level 12, the GD will proc, and instakill the dragon. No chance of losing the loot, either, due to level drain. This also works with Black Blade of Disaster, though that disintegration is worrisome. 😋
@@kiemugen9830 Is Greater Deathblow sealed in LoB, or are the levels too high on the targets? If the latter, (level too high) that's why this post talks about Blackrazor. Blackrazor drains levels. 😈 if I recall, many dragons in TOB are around level 20? With Improved Haste, you should be able to get 8-10 attacks per round. If 4 hits proc, (level 12) on the next hit, Greater Deathblow will instantly take it down, without losing any loot, due to level drain. 😈😈😈😛. Vorpal weapons have conditional triggers. The Axe of the Unyielding has a 10% proc, but a Save vs Death at a -4 penalty (?). So using Improved Haste with a speed weapon (Kundane) in the off hand, and casting Greater Malison would be optimal. 🥷
@@User_Un_Friendly I used black blade of disaster everytime on LoB, it has both 4level drain and disintegrate vs save, and I tried spamming deathblow on summoned sword, usually it dies from first strike on lower difficulties, but in LoB I had to hit it a lot until it died from level drainm and some enemies, fire giants, planetars, monks die from first hit, their saves get bugged and they fail every savethrow, so vorpal weapon can actually help you a lot on lob, but only against specific enemies, others will never fail a save
@@kiemugen9830 As mentioned, each Vorpal weapon has a condition to trigger. The Ravager has a straight percentage, so all you need is someone (Saravok) with multiple Greater Whirlwinds. Also, some enemies are immune to Vorpal hits. "Know yourself, and know your enemy. You will always be victorious." (Sun Tzu). 🫡
The shadow's blade is typically buffed by rogue rebalancing. It's a pseudo +5 weapon and raises backstab multiplier by one. It's a nice off hand. It's a pseudo +5 because it only applies when wielded by a thief, and as i recall, always applies the +2 to the main hand.
I don't know if this has been said, but if you go off AD&D 2e rules, Save vs. Paralyzation is part of Poison/Death. It's commonly referred to as PPDM (Paralyzation/Poison/Death Magic). Fantastic guide all in all and I've learnt a lot about a lot these weapons and I've been playing this game for far too long.
The shortbow, "Eagle Bow: "Protector of the Dryads"", at least in original BG1 and 2, has an ability that is not in its description, it adds the user's strength damage bonus to its hits. Give ogre gauntlets to Coran or other main archer and they do lots of damage all the time. Or give them a giant strength potion and gauntlets of weapon expertise, for the big fights, and you're looking at hitting up into the 20s every shot. I think a lot of people didn't notice the ability because in BG1 you'd normally just give a shortbow to a thief with unexceptional strength. Also just to spite the ranged nerf in BG2, I did one run with a bow-heavy group with a heavy reliance on acid arrows since acid affected most things.
Had to stop mid-work for about 30 secs of uncontrollable laughter when you started talking about 'The Root of the Problem' club. Thanks for the chuckles and this awesome guide good sir!
Keldorn’s two handed sword actually has a pretty fun use, which I assume you already know Dav. You can walk up to any wizard with full defenses up, which usually include some fire shield, and since it damages you they WILL take the magic damage and for most of the game they don’t have protection from magical energy. This means they will get interrupted pretty often, that on top of taking the 5 magic with every swing. This being said, Keldorn will take damage as well, so it’s a way to hinder wizards in many fights but to be used with care. Love the videos man, keep it up!
Just got the notification, just have to drop a comment until later. You're a legend Dav!! Sorry I can't join you live these days... But I watch when I can. What can I say? Many blessings man! You're doing something that is a big part of the good my life. The weapons guide could be concluded in "Clubs OP S-tier pog Go Root of the Problem, best in SOA!". but who knows, there may be surprises :)
and finally in the end :D it aiming you mad this wide and think you very much :D was super useful 99% of the stuf you say I agree :D on what not its play style thing :D im glad at least 3 of our top 3 weapons mach, Ages, Fury and Unyielding thx
Best guide of BG weapons, that said, for people looking for a playstyle nearer the DnD 2e core rules, which means not using mods to double the damage of mosters comparing to the monster manual, order of the best weapons may change a bit.
Awesome guide. I played through SOA and TOB when they first came out and a few times since then but not since the Enhanced version came out. I built an Undead hunter and tried him with Azures's Edge on the Lich in the Crooked Crane very early on. I was able to one-shot his ass. From that point in, the undead were absolute cheese for me. Its fun going back and playing with different abilties.
Really looking forward to listening to the whole thing. After playing Baldur's Gate 3 for a while I absolutely had to go back and play the first two again after not touching them for a very long time. All I really remember is Carsomyr, so this is going to be some great education about what I might look at building this time!
At 1:23:00, you can use all the Big Metal Rod ammo in Firetooth and you don't need to wear the armor. Not sure if you just meant you had to complete the Big Metal Unit quest line, which is all that's required.
Fun fact about 2e ad&d Initiative was so much better than it is today. You rolled a 1d10 and added either the speed factor for the weapon or Spellcasting speed of the spell to that number. The lower numbers went first in the order. If there was multiple attacks in a round then everyone attacked in their order then if someone had an additional attack they would act in their order again, and repeat until all attacks are resolved then the round expires. 1/2 attacks were dealt with as being able to use an additional full attack every other round (2 1/2 attacks would be done like 2 attacks, 3 attacks, 2 attacks 3 attacks, etc) That's another one of the big reasons why magic missile was so renowned... it was one of the few spells with a super low speed factor (1) and couldn't miss (making it an anti-mage spell as it should still be used to this day. Mages would have their spells interrupted and lost if they took damage before their spell went off) I think people would live 2e if they actually attempted to play it. The amount of great mechanics, detail, and balancing is amazing
Great video, thanks. After like 20 something years of playing BG1 and 2 I still found some new info here. :-) By the way, I think you missed the Gnasher, a not too bad club: 1d6+2 (crushing), slivers add 2 points (piercing) damage each round for 4 rounds.
I disagree about slings, only 1 base apr, but they stack STR, launcher and ammo enchantment level damage. Anomen with sling and GM will have 5 attacks when properly buffed and improved hasted for more then 25dmg/hit with a good sling, a lev 13+ fighter will have 2 more attacks, but probably will be less damaging as he will have less STR and will not have the automatic max damage roll that a cleric can get. This to show how slings can be powerful when you want to have a high ranged output, but I prefer to have my fighters fighting mlee and use the sling as main ranged weapon for my mages and clerics: Imoen or Nalia, even if they can use a bow, with a sling are at advantage, they can buff themselves with a str spell that lasts very long time and using enchanted slings and bullets have decent thac0 and damage, they need a regular haste spell or an haste potion to double their output (with bow they need IH) and having only 1 or 2 attacks/round have all the time to cast or relocate after using the sling each round. Aerie is even more impressing as she can get the same damage/hit Anomen gets and, once she reaches enough high level, will have a very good thac0, something between -12 -14 depending on the particular sling, bullet and other equipment. The sling, coupled with the shield that reflects ranged attacks, is also useful in the (few) situations where ranged enemies are a problem, if you position the party in a way that the enemies aim at the sling user they will kill themselves while the sling user can speed up the process or do other tasks like cast or aim at the enemies your mlee people are fighting with, this is also possible with darts and throwing daggers, the daggers are better if the character has good natural thac0, but a mage with firetooth +3 will miss often against enemies with decent ac, while with a +4 sling and a +3 bullet will have a -5 thac0 bonus compared to the dagger, so less apr, but more dmg and chance to hit. Firetooth is probably slightly better, but as it is a fantastic weapon it tells a lot on how a sling is good as ranged weapon in many situations and party compositions.
I can’t believe I didn’t know about the insane “no save” of the Staff of Command domination. 😵💫Awesome! And here I thought the mind layer circlets were bad enough…😍
3:04:49 Rod of Terror was used to make your Charisma 24 in the original BG2 game. While wearing Ring of Human influence (which sets your CH 18) you could reduce your charisma to -1, which is impossible, thus the game computes CH as 24. After that you can get rid of Ring of Human influence, and Rod of Terror and play with your overpowered character(assuming you reduced your CH to minimum and distributed the points to other stats). Both the ring and rod can be obtained from Athkatla, ring from the circus tent and rod from the city gates.
Seriously, great content. Been hammering through a lot of your content lately. Class guide is awesome. Grew up on Baldur's Gate, and can't wait to have the time to try the updated versions. Will need to find those mods too!
@ 1:17:36 "...and it hits you, you're a squirrel forever and that's devastating." That was funny when talking about the Bolt of Polymorphing, really enjoyed your whole video and very informative even for someone like me who has played this game off and on for years.
It's absolutely hilarious how excited I was to see a 4 hour long video about the different types of weapons in this game lmaoo 2 years ago I had never even heard of Baldur's Gate, then I stumbled onto Dav's stream Now I have like 600 hours in BG 1 and 400 hours in BG 2 I STILL have not beaten either game lmaooooo not because I couldn't or don't know how at this point, I just have too much fun dicking around and just enjoying the game world and combat systems, all thanks to discovering Dav BG1 is literally my favorite videogame of all time, and I know how to wave dash in Super Smash Bros Melee so if you know what Melee is and what that means you already know why that's funny
The reason Yoshimo gets +1 to AC is due to him having 1 point in single weapon style, the AC bonus would be applied by any other weapon as well, as long as he's not dual-wielding.
Great guide. I play core no-reload and agree with pretty much everything said. Only major difference for me on core rules is that Defender of Easthaven, while good, isn't as important. I really hate how APR off-hands warp the entire hierarchy of weapons around them. APR weapons should grant the extra attack to themselves even when held in the off-hand. I wouldn't feel as guilty using top-tier two-handers if that was the case.
One of my favorite runs was a fallen paladin wielding Black Razor (OG, so no Blackguard). Hands down an incredible weapon and a hell of a lot of fun. Didn't even matter I had nerfed my pally by turning evil.
a note on hammers in bg1: you get ashideena very easy off the mad cleric southwest of Beregost. it is extremely good with effective d4+4 damage (+2 enhancement +1 electric), while Branwen and Viconia are obvious candidates for use, I usually reserve the hammer for my MC who in time will get offhand Crom Fayr
@@Davaeornlol Stop embarrassing me Dav! But yeah the first thing I did when I played a Kensai-Thief was trying to backstab with a big-ass-mother-fucking 2h sword. Safe to say my disappointment was immeasurable and my day was ruined.
Man you are amazing, thanks for this guide, recently I finished BG 1 for the first time Now i want to replay it with berserker/mage dual class and finish all the saga your guides were very helpful!
My dude, I was just thinking today about how awesome it would be if Dav dropped a weapon guide after the masterpiece that was your class guide. Haven’t even pressed play yet, but stoked to enjoy this! Thanks always!
Bala Axe Wizard slayer is a normal axe that applies Miss Cast on hit. That sounds like a very good weapon against wizards that cast Protection against Magical Weapons because Bala Axe will still hit and apply Miss Cast on them
problem is the only wizards who use pfmw are liches who are immune to it anyway and low level wizards who get destroyed in 2 sec by anything anyways. Most wizards (humanoids that would normally be hittable) use greater mantle which was buffed with scs to block more weapons.
Beholders are a pain in the ass. I always used to carry the Shield of Balduran and Cloak of Mirroring and popping it on a couple party members and letting the chaos fly. Great video btw.
The God of the Gate! Dude, you rule, and this rules. Thanks as always for the sweet deats and for the awesome delivery of this much appreciated information!
I need to sit down & give these games a fair shake. Got BG1 20 years ago or whatever, puttered around a few hours & forgot about it. Although I was crazy about the old "gold box" games when I was a kid, there just wasn't much time for games with a wife & kids in the house. Downloaded the updated version from GOG recently & have done the same, not much more than traveling south from the inn with the couple you meet there. In my defense, I'm revisiting Morrowind for the first time in 20 years & that takes some time. Got in a mood & bought several games I either haven't played or only fiddled with briefly, so BG1 & 2, Neverwinter Nights, Icewind Dale, Vamp the Masquerade: Bloodlines, the 3rd Witcher, Wasteland2, KCD, & Fallout New Vegas. People rave about these games. Time to see what the fuss is about. Considering the mage who ambushes you at the Friendly Arms took me several tries, it'll be a while if not forever before I try handicapping myself with more difficulty & mods.
I have played so much RuneScape in the past that you mentioned going down into the Falador mine in this BG guide, and it took me a second to realize that’s a totally different game and ur joking lol
Anything about throwing weapons that newbie should know? I fail to find anything about those... Great guides on this channel btw, thanks for recording those!🤓👍
I've been sleeping on how good katanas are in bg. Been playing a fighter/mage/thief to see if I like it, but my points are mostly in flails. No points in katanas and I'm regretting that big time now that I can't make efficient use of Zerth Blade. Then again, I guess that's what happens when I don't have enough meta information about the game. Sweet vid.
4:04:16 - The Soul Reaver. Kains ancient blade. Older than any of us and a thousand times more deadly. The legends claimed that the blade was possessed, and thrived by devouring the souls of its victims. For all our bravado, we knew what it meant when Kain drew the Soul Reaver in anger. It meant you were dead.
the way i rate weapons, i ask myself: · Can you kill Kangaxx with it? · Can you kill clay golems with it? if the weapon can do both, then it is freaking awesome if the weapon can do any of that, then it is cool if the weapon can't do neither, most of the time they just don't matter to me, but i can do some exceptions
I was surprised you rated nonmagical elemental arrows, particularly the ice and biting arrows so low. Along with the Tasheron's bow. Unless SCS has changed in recent years, mages most often put up protection from magical weapons when they are first encountered. Nonmagical elemental weapons will do damage through both this spell and stoneskin, which will allow you to interrupt spells while you focus on bringing down their defenses. Tasheron's bow allows thieves and mid level archers to do this reliably. Non-lich mages are common even in TOB, so having this in tactic in your back pocket is good even up till the point where you get the big metal unit, and the absolutely busted ammo that comes with it. EDIT: Similarly, unless it has changed since the last time I did a scs/ascension run, which has been years at this point, you can use the metal rod ammo with any crossbow. Furthermore, the mini skulltrap ammo explosion will also go straight through immunity to magic weapons and stoneskin, while also setting your APR to 5, 10 with Improved Haste. It's how I took down Irenicus and Sendai during the last battle on ascension.
Yeah the ammo doesn't work with mods sadly, as to the mages, because of the imp mantle component most will do that, as it will make them immune to both. It makes mantle immune to 3 and less, imp 4 and less, absolute is all.

There should be a different comment somewhere that includes all ranged weapons and ammunition.
Hey mate, you mislabeled Crom Faeyr. Despite Davaeorn dumping on it for most of its review time, he does still rate it at S.
Thank you so much for the work you put into this!
I love the duality of, "These weapons are trash, you shouldn't use 'em, and if you do, you should feel bad." and, "At the end of the day use whatever you want, anything works, and take everything I say with a handful of salt"
Have fun feeling bad about using shitty weapons

Nice!!! The internet is really lacking in super detailed guides about this game.
I think he missed the ogre with the slaying arrow by rolling a 1, which is always a miss regardless of bonus
Also, storm star +5 says it has 10d6 electrical damage instead of 1d6 for storm star +3, which sounds like if could make a difference.
Aren't there several Ogre Mages? Like one in the sewers, like 5 or 6 that gank you outside of CandleKeep, one holding a Sirine hostage I think, and one around Firewine Bridge? Unless those others aren't maybe classified as Ogre Mages?
Dear diary redditor coming through

You'd be dead before the video is out, but the world is your oyster.
Or dogshit.
"That being said" drinking game has lead to dozens of deaths.
I've been playing this game for almost 10 years and only after your guides I finally understand how weapon speed works, how attack per round calculated with off hand, how +1 extra attack from special equipment works... Christ I feel like an idiot now :)
Thank you for these guides.
Only 10 years?
Can you explain? Im still dumb
@@powned100100 Weapons speed the lower the number the better Zero being the best which means you're going to hit as soon as your character is in range and swings their blade but a higher number say 5 would mean that there is some lag to how long it will take before your character actually attacks
If you're holding two weapons You have a primary weapon which will be in your right hand And a offhand weapon which will be in your left
if a weapon says it increases your number of attacks per round it will always affect the weapon in your right hand even if the weapon giving the bonus is in the left hand so it is beneficial to put the items giving that bonus in the left hand while you use the right hand for actually dealing damage
And in general plus to the number of attacks well first off I need to point out that although the game seems to be playing out in real time it's actually turn based and what you're seeing is kind of an illusion in fact I believe a lot of the times you're swinging your weapon you're not actually attacking
You can only attack a certain number of times within a certain time limit I forget what the time limit is but I think the number of times you can attack within that is capped at 5 or 10 if you're using improved haste
so it's generally good to be having attribute that increase your number of attacks in fact increasing your tax speed can be more useful than just increasing your raw attack damage as it's better to do six points of damage twice then it would be to do 10 points of damage once you've got it
there are a few things that will add half an attack around you need two of these before it does anything if you have just 1/2 attack per round you're not actually going to get more attacks
Wow, I'm playing a cleric using a flail and I was ready to accept I'd be using some C tier weapons, good to know there's cool flails in the game

Hell yeah, it’s a new Dav guide. Keep up the amazing work, friend.
These guides are S tier; I can't say enough good things about them.
Use Greater Deathblow with Blackrazor. As you’ve drained that dragon to level 12, the GD will proc, and instakill the dragon. No chance of losing the loot, either, due to level drain.
This also works with Black Blade of Disaster, though that disintegration is worrisome. 😋
What a stud.
just for info deathblow doesnt work on legacy of bhaal (and vorpal is bugged, it either kills from first strike some enemies or doesntt work at all)
@@kiemugen9830 Is Greater Deathblow sealed in LoB, or are the levels too high on the targets?
I don't know why but I can sit here and listen to you talk about everything baulder's gate for hours and not get bored.
Wow this just made my week!! Love these videos and your level of insight.
Another masterpiece by an absolute legend.
Interesting thanks for watching and commenting friend!
Your breakdowns of this game are absolutely brilliant, thanks for sharing.
Fun idea thanks for watching and commenting friend!

God bless buddy thanks for watching hope you enjoy the game!
I remember decapitating a beholder once and just wondering how that actually works, seeing how a beholder is basically just all head
😂😂😂 oh lord
Watchers keep at start of BG2 is a 100% cheese. SCS adds tweak to move it at the end of BG2 for a reason.
I love love love, how after about 2 hours, each hit turned to eat shit in my head and I could not unhear it
XD
Happy Valentine's day dude! Thanks for the video
To you too buddy god bless sorry for the late reply
Awesome i was waiting for this video for a long time
At 1:23:00, you can use all the Big Metal Rod ammo in Firetooth and you don't need to wear the armor. Not sure if you just meant you had to complete the Big Metal Unit quest line, which is all that's required.
Fun fact about 2e ad&d
Initiative was so much better than it is today.
1/2 attacks were dealt with as being able to use an additional full attack every other round (2 1/2 attacks would be done like 2 attacks, 3 attacks, 2 attacks 3 attacks, etc)
That's another one of the big reasons why magic missile was so renowned... it was one of the few spells with a super low speed factor (1) and couldn't miss (making it an anti-mage spell as it should still be used to this day. Mages would have their spells interrupted and lost if they took damage before their spell went off)
I think people would live 2e if they actually attempted to play it. The amount of great mechanics, detail, and balancing is amazing
I need that companion guide my dude😀
Anyhow, this will also make me survive another 4 hours.
Seconded. I especially want to see your take on bg1 companions
Best Guide ever. I didnt even care about the weapons. I just like hearing this guy rantig about everything.
I just picked up this game on a whim - I figured it would be fairly deep but holy moly. I hope I can get into it.
IKR XD
3:04:49 Rod of Terror was used to make your Charisma 24 in the original BG2 game. While wearing Ring of Human influence (which sets your CH 18) you could reduce your charisma to -1, which is impossible, thus the game computes CH as 24. After that you can get rid of Ring of Human influence, and Rod of Terror and play with your overpowered character(assuming you reduced your CH to minimum and distributed the points to other stats). Both the ring and rod can be obtained from Athkatla, ring from the circus tent and rod from the city gates.
Beamdog fixed that. Now it just kills you. 🤓
It wrapped around to 25. 24, 25, made no difference though. Fun stuff!
Lul
Seriously, great content. Been hammering through a lot of your content lately. Class guide is awesome. Grew up on Baldur's Gate, and can't wait to have the time to try the updated versions. Will need to find those mods too!
@ 1:17:36 "...and it hits you, you're a squirrel forever and that's devastating." That was funny when talking about the Bolt of Polymorphing, really enjoyed your whole video and very informative even for someone like me who has played this game off and on for years.
Thanks for watching and commenting friend!
It's absolutely hilarious how excited I was to see a 4 hour long video about the different types of weapons in this game lmaoo
2 years ago I had never even heard of Baldur's Gate, then I stumbled onto Dav's stream
Now I have like 600 hours in BG 1 and 400 hours in BG 2
I STILL have not beaten either game lmaooooo not because I couldn't or don't know how at this point, I just have too much fun dicking around and just enjoying the game world and combat systems, all thanks to discovering Dav
BG1 is literally my favorite videogame of all time, and I know how to wave dash in Super Smash Bros Melee so if you know what Melee is and what that means you already know why that's funny
Same for me haha...This dude rehypes this game all by himself
Dicking around is the best way to play games brother. God bless and thanks for watching and commenting.
The reason Yoshimo gets +1 to AC is due to him having 1 point in single weapon style, the AC bonus would be applied by any other weapon as well, as long as he's not dual-wielding.
I legitimately thought I remember reading his katana that it gave him extra I definitely wasn't thinking of the stat sheet itself XD.
I'm installing the oldest version of BG2 I own to check if they didn't change it actually😂
4:01:29 Lilarcor is my favorite companion in the game :D for some reason talking weapons are the best :D
Agreed. I wish there was a way to upgrade him
@@marzx13I’m sure there’s a mod that lets you, but it should be vanilla 😢how can I abandon my boy
I love listening to you go over things about this game.
I love having you watching buddy god bless.
Hell yeh. Thanks for watching and commenting friend!
a note on hammers in bg1:
you get ashideena very easy off the mad cleric southwest of Beregost.
it is extremely good with effective d4+4 damage (+2 enhancement +1 electric),
while Branwen and Viconia are obvious candidates for use, I usually reserve the hammer for my MC who in time will get offhand Crom Fayr
I don't care Dav, shoving the end of a quarterstaff up to something's arse is a perfectly legit way to backstab.
Then why cant my 2h sword do the same?
@@Davaeornlol Stop embarrassing me Dav!
But yeah the first thing I did when I played a Kensai-Thief was trying to backstab with a big-ass-mother-fucking 2h sword. Safe to say my disappointment was immeasurable and my day was ruined.
Finally! Thrilled to see this, fantastic stuff as always.
Ohhhhhhh, a new video! I really appreciate you making these.
god bless you dude thanks for watching
The utter contempt shown throughout the majority of this video is absolutely hilarious 😂
XD
Man you are amazing, thanks for this guide, recently I finished BG 1 for the first time
Now i want to replay it with berserker/mage dual class and finish all the saga
your guides were very helpful!
Thanks for watching and commenting buddy!
My dude, I was just thinking today about how awesome it would be if Dav dropped a weapon guide after the masterpiece that was your class guide. Haven’t even pressed play yet, but stoked to enjoy this! Thanks always!
God bless dude thanks for watching
basically just make 6 kensai/mages.
In bg1 I didn't know how to deal with the demons death stare so I'd just shoot arrows of dispelling at my guys to save them. Absolutely busted item.
Wow good stuff. Thanks for all the BG content. The streams are a good time too
Beholders are a pain in the ass. I always used to carry the Shield of Balduran and Cloak of Mirroring and popping it on a couple party members and letting the chaos fly.
Great video btw.
thanks for watching and commenting buddy!
Just realized you teased a companion video one day. Really looking forward to it. I know it'll probably take a while.
The God of the Gate! Dude, you rule, and this rules. Thanks as always for the sweet deats and for the awesome delivery of this much appreciated information!
Nice! Very glad to see you uploading this.
THE EMPEROR RETURNED!!!
You had me for a second with Shaman's Staff being S+ tier :D
This video is S tier a the way. Cant say enough good this about it. Keep up the work daveorn
God bless u brother.
Bolt of polymorphing are S+ tier all the way if you shoot at Hexxat
hell yeaaaah i've been waiting this
I need to sit down & give these games a fair shake.
Just saw this vid, then I saw the playtime, then I smiled :D Epic!
I have played so much RuneScape in the past that you mentioned going down into the Falador mine in this BG guide,
and it took me a second to realize that’s a totally different game and ur joking lol
Aaaaaaaaa yeees a 4 hour weapon guide this is the absolute best
Thanks for wtching and commenting brother.
Anything about throwing weapons that newbie should know? I fail to find anything about those... Great guides on this channel btw, thanks for recording those!🤓👍
4 hours long video.
God Bless you.
God bless you buddy thanks for watching and commenting
OMG!!!! at last! Thanks Davaeorn :D
Sweet vid.
Uff. 4h 11min. Thanks for all the effort. I wish you all the best and good health.
you too brother god bless
Don't forget Dirk's completely normal dagger! I'm funny, right? thanks for the video - it's an encyclopedia.
Thanks! I'll make notes to this for a future play through!
the way i rate weapons, i ask myself:
· Can you kill Kangaxx with it?
· Can you kill clay golems with it?
if the weapon can do both, then it is freaking awesome
if the weapon can do any of that, then it is cool
if the weapon can't do neither, most of the time they just don't matter to me, but i can do some exceptions
Thank you so much for that Video, much needed! You made my week!
It's 2022 and i'm watching a Baldur's Gate weapon guide. The fuck is my life
Livin the dream
4 hour video of a guy talking about nerdy shit i love, another great add to the bedtime playlist.
Hell yeah thanks for watching and commenting friend
I've subscribed to your channel, because lad you deserve it.
