I don't see what the problem is. In the example of Smack sailing vessels, they're still more or less the same thing they were in the past, they're just being used for hobby. At least they're being used at all. All too often you hear about people finding beautiful ships in terrible ruin lying on someone's land overgrown. At least these have been reasonably maintained even if modifications were made to make them faster, at least they're still out on the water, since nobody is going to be using them for fishing anymore, as that's why they were abandoned in the first place. I think people who live in these areas of England know that there used to be hundreds of these types of boats on the waters working at any given time and it's nice for people to still be able to see that and visualize what it would have been like.
You people would absolutely hate America (understandably so at least) here in every suburb in the Midwest richer white collar people drive pickup trucks where the bed comes up to their shoulder, and it ruins the whole point of being able to transport things. But it's not just a few people, it's almost every single person in the suburbs that drives oversized pickups. It's so bad the manufactures don't even build regular sized pickups anymore, you only have one option which only exists because people don't understand why they shouldn't want that but that's how it goes, times are always changing and somethings change in worse ways than others.
It would be a far greater shame for the most aesthetically pleasing, beautiful, sailing vessels ever made to be completely forgotten and abandoned.

less talking crap more sailing.. smacks were always messed around with, even back in the day, dont forget the racing barges too, they had a few one off specials with no room in the aft hold cos the run aft was all about speed..
