Yared is 100% right here. Front-running probably cost him a bit, and maybe cost him the race, but it was CLEARLY the right strategic call when all that matters is getting on the podium. There was no way in hell 3 guys were beating him at a 3:30 pace. I am very happy he made that race honest, and it also helped expose just how deep our 1500m pool is. 8 guys under the meet record! 6 guys 3:32 or better! A 3:31.7 didn't even qualify! That's insane.
For all these people in the comments - if you know anything about the *real* life of these athletes, his talents PLUS attitude are a unique combo that will set him up FAR beyond life on the track; a healthy attitude + winning ability. If you want to be a "dawg" and fuel the fight with the ego, you face a whole other set of issues after sport is done. Yared is in a unique position to do it RIGHT. This interview is so telling = Big win for his athletic career, bigger win setting the stage for life &sport. IYKYK.
It was the right strategy for Nagus today but come Olympics Nagus and Ingenbrigsten really need to be running 3:26/3:27 if they are going to dust Hocker and Kerr at Olympics.
@@glossjunkies6026 He is on the entry list - I doubt he will run it. I was surprised to hear Cole is going to run it. Cole might win that if it is over 13:00 which it probably will be.
He's gonna need more speed to take out Kerr and Jakob...but his go for it, come what may attitude is awesome and precise!! Dude should start riding a Harley chopper

Yared. The Olympics come by every 4 years. You need to be mean or you'll miss your chance. Lose the wingman attitude and seize the moment. Leave it all on the track. Good luck.
He has to run his race. That is not his style. As you can see with this race, it didn't work out for him. He should hang tight as normal and kick towards the end. He is not a lead runner.
@@kpat3052 what are you talking about? He front ran a 3:30 race and still closed and 52. He went through 1200 in 2:51 and Hawker was just able to shift gears off of that hot pace. He will not be leading at the Olympic Games. Hocker Could for sure be a metal contender now. Other than him, no one else could go with that.
@@kpat3052 and what I’m saying is that Yared had a very sound strategy to make the team. That’s the goal here. This is not Olympic final, so there’s no need to go for the win and miss out on the team. There were only two guys in that field capable of running 3:30 right now. Maybe Hobbs, but certainly no one else. There were 8 to 10 mile an hour winds and he was probably the only one willing to do the work to lead. Either way, neither Yared, nor Hocker will be leading any part of the Olympic final.
Such a nice guy... it's all about the sport, the team and not about himself... Keep going Yared!

Hocker made a similar comment. Glad it went out fast to keep the college kids strung out and show who was really fit.
The wind was 8-10mph. Very impressive front-running for a thin Niguse. Great race from Hocker too.
Always such a well-spoken young man. Great ambassador for the sport!
Congratulations to this young man! He is incredibly humble and always maintains a positive attitude.
Good strategy- he knew if he ran 3:30 he wasn't getting beat by three other guys. Goal is to make the team.
Wrong title, by the way. Not 5k but 1500m.

I don’t think either of them is going to be in 326 shape
Feels like 3:28 this year and four guys have a legit shot. Can’t wait!
I do not see anyone dusting Kerr. He is looking really good. Ingebritsen is returning to form too. It will be a good race.
3:26 🤣that's not happening not even close

@MrBeast-1 didn't he just say in this interview that he was not running it? They asked him and he gave a definite no.
