tugeli kaani bari Laguna mhaka..it's our harvest festival.. nothing really much to with elephants or rats... then y is onam n such a harvest festival also celebrated during the same time in Kerala n Tulu Nadu..this custom is also there in upper konkan... all these areas which celebrate this festival during the same season ( not the same day) are part of larger geographical area called sapta konkan..
this harvest festival called as नवान्न पंचमी in sanskrit is one of our harvest festival..other being shigmo..y did not elephants destroy their crops during tht season?

    • @pratikj415

      Thanks for the Feedback.
The Elephant story is a local Folklore, which I came across while reading various books and newspapers. I totally agree with you that it is a simple harvest festival but I am pretty sure that the Elephant and Rat angle were added by our ancestors to give it further depth and to make people follow this custom.
Even today my grandmother tells me to pray to lord Ganesh to avoid attack on our food stock by rats. These are not superstitions but local Folklores. Simple Stories which have been told for centuries in Goa to give any custom more depth.
Since these are folklore/stories based on people's perception, there is a 'DISCLAIMER' right at the start of the video which states that 'This video does not claim historic authenticity or accuracy'.
By the way, I came across this article: timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/goa/elephants-wreak-havoc-in-dodamarg/articleshow/52813911.cms
If this incident involving wild elephants took place in 2016, just imagine centuries ago, the incidents would have been more frequent. So quite possibly elephants may have attacked a field before Ganesh Chaturthi and since that is the harvest season, Someone may have offered the first harvest to lord Ganesh to save them from elephant troubles, and quite possibly everyone else may have followed him/her.
