Gojo has never been called the strongest sorcerrer in history, in ep 9 season 2 the Narrator calls Gojo the strongest sorcerrer in the modern era not in History.

Yeah, they have EXPLICITLY made it clear that Satoru Gojo is ''The Strongest Sorcerer of the Modern Age'' instead of history's strongest.
We know, we just mean that no sorcerer currently existing is stronger than him. We tend to accidentally exaggerate lol.
9:26 No, Sukuna did not save Shigemo just for a chance at fighting Mahoraga. He stated that if Shigemo died, Megumi would also die. And since Shigemo was more or less forced to participate in the subjugation ritual with Megumi, Mahoraga would keep coming for Shigemo until the job was done. Sukuna was not about to let Megumi die when he still has plans for him, so his only option was to fight Mahoraga and keep Shigemo alive until then.
Btw, there is a new fullversion of this fight, since this one is unfinished, you guys should watch the blu-ray version of the ep 17, either on ur own time or for a reaction, it has extended scenes and better quality overall

Trust me Sukuna and Mahoraga werent evenly matched its more evident in the bluray😂
They were evenly matched in the manga and the fight was shorter. In the anime you can see Maho getting sliced multiple times, in the manga he got sliced once and then started backhanding the dismantle waves.
Sukuna did mahoraga dirty in the bluray version never seen that kind of humiliation
The whole point is that Mahoraga is a 'late throw in rock paper scissors', and will always adapt to what you throw at him given enough time. If Sukuna hadn't killed Mahoraga with the first use of Fuga, and if he didn't figure out his technique, then Sukuna would have lost simply because of Mahoraga's adaptions. I mean, Sukuna's DE is literally "here's a dimension of infinite stabs and cuts until everything dissappears" and Mahoraga just. Outhealed it.
I mean yeah, especially considering that Sukuna isn't at full power yet. But Mahoraga certainly came closer to beating him than anyone else has so far.
The anime made it seem much closer than it was lmao, but in the manga its really clear that sukuna was just testing mahoraga and seeing what it could do. Also the anime didn’t really address this but mahoraga is the only person at this point who could actually see sukuna’s slashes which why he was so excited

Itadori needs a break. It's really interesting to see Megumi's growth throughout the show, my man can do both Domain Expansion and summon Mahoraga every time he gets teased or bullied.
I think Sukuna would be able to one-shot Mahoraga if he really wanted to but he probably was way more interested in Mahoraga's capabilities. I seriously don't think anyone except Sukuna, Gojo and maaaybe Yuta can defeat Mahoraga which makes Megumi one of the most dangerous/OP one (if he managed to tame it).
If Megumi manages to subjugate Mahoraga then he would easily be one of the strongest characters in the show. It's so funny that he was about to pull Mahoraga out when he was fighting Tod back in season one lol.
Gojo was explaining to megumi that his ct with full potential is a lot stronger than megumi ever thought it was cuz hundreds of years ago mahoraga was able to kill a limitless user, even tho it killed the 10 shadows user as well since no one has ever tamed mahoraga before. But what gojo also fails to mention, or probably just didn’t care to mention, is that megumi wouldn’t technically be as strong as gojo since both sukuna and gojo are more powerful than it
Sukuna was playing around here. He could kill Mahoraga whenever he wanted. That is visible through the fact that he had fun, never needed to heal and was never really threatened

Mahoraga is the most uncontrollable shikigami in the history of the Ten Shadows Technique. It has never been tamed or commanded like other familiars in the history of the entire Zenin Clan. However, users of the Ten Shadows Technique can summon it via an exorcism ritual in an attempt to exorcise it at any time.
Mahoraga's adaptation ability is to adapt to any and all phenomena.
Other people can be included in the ritual, but defeating the respective shikigami will not allow the Ten Shadows Technique user to use them. Generally, this would be considered an impractical summoning. Nevertheless, Megumi believes this is an ace in the hole, his last resort in the most threatening situation. By summoning Mahoraga and forcing his opponent to participate in the ritual, Megumi can take his adversary down with him. That's why he tried summoning mahoraga in season one when he was fighting against sukuna. Had megumi summoned mahoraga at that time, it would have killed sukuna, considering the fact that he was at only 3 fingers worth of strength.
And lastly, you were right, sukuna isn't a curse. He was a human sorcerer who lived 1,000 years ago. He divided his soul into his 20 fingers which then became cursed objects

Although it is true that the ten shadows user in the past was able to defeat a six eyes+limitless user, with the help of mahoraga, you also have to remember that none of the gojo clan have been as powerful as satoru. It's very possible that his ancestor who was killed didn't even have access to domain expansion or reverse curse technique.
We figured he wasn't as strong as Satoru. It's still quite impressive.
Don’t worry Mahoraga can be summoned again. It cannot be permanently destroyed in a subjugation ritual.

Seriously, we didn't exactly get the hype for the Ten Shadows before this. I mean, it's definitely a good ability, but we were kind of confused on how it was the prized hereditary technique of the Zenin...until now lol. The power gap between Mahoraga and the other summons is crazy. Like, the others are basically used for utility and specific scenarios. But Mahoraga is a "screw everything" option lol.

We watched this weeks ago in real life, before we knew there even was a Blu-ray version.
Watching Yuji's breakdown at the end of the episode always hurts my heart. He doesn't deserve all the things he goes through.
Also just to clear something up, Megumi could technically summon Mahoraga again to try and tame it. A person with the Ten Shadows technique can summon a shikigami as many times as it takes to subjugate it. A shikigami cannot be permanently destroyed unless it's already in the sorcerer's arsenal (like demon dog white and the snake).

Sukuna either let's Megumi and pony tail die, or fights and kills Maharoga. Megumi was sacrificing himself because he was going to die anyway, but after it quickly killed pony tail, it would have disappeared. Instead, Sukuna saved Fushigoro and sacrificed most of the city.

Get ready for the flood of people spreading the misinformation that this episode was only 30% done animating when in reality what was said by one of the animators on twitter is that he only had time to realise 30% of his "vision" which is not what the majority of people have been spreading on reactor channels on youtube and is also not how production for a show works

What you should recognize is that yes, it is an unfinished Chapter and from which they removed many scenes that were not finished and instead they omitted many things (that's why some things about the fight don't make sense) not to mention that They put new animations in their place in some parts to replace those that were not finished (and in their place they gave us some new scenes but neglected due to time issues, that is, they rushed to draw and more things to finish)

They are no where near evenly matched Mahoraga didn't landed a single blow on sukuna plus the fight is stretched in the anime. Sukuna you can say tested what his abilities are. Although mahoraga is stronger he's no where near as strong as Gojo and sukuna but his ability to adapt is what can make him as strong as them. If the opponents doesn't know this and he keeps adapting to everything they throw at him he will defeat them so you have to kill him with an attack powerful enough to kill him in one blow before it can adapt to it.
I mean, obviously Sukuna is stronger. We were just shocked at how well someone was performing against Sukuna, considering no one so far has come close to doing what Mahoraga did.
Not a spoiler as I have not read the manga but what if the reason Mahoraga in the past was able to defeat the leader of the Gojo clan because the Gojo person had not been "enlightened" like Satoru did against Toji in hidden inventory by being extremely close to dying which would mean that the old Gojo guy potentially couldnt even do hallow purple. Another thought experiment would be that since we know no sorcerer has ever been able to subjucate Mahoraga, that means that the summoning ritual has only ever been canceled by Mahoraga ultimately killing the ten shadow user, that could mean that the reason Mahoraga was so strong in the present is because it had been adapting for centuries from people it fought but now that Sukuna managed to kill it and end the ritual that way instead, it's possible that Mahoraga is now ''reset'' and essentially easier to subjugate by Megumi in the future
I like the idea that Mahoraga is like, the ultimate predator. It would explain why he is so dang strong lol. Hopefully we get more lore on the past of the Gojo/Zenin clan.
Mahoraga gets reset anytime it gets summoned again. So if mahoraga hypothetically gets summoned again, it would need to try and adapt to sukuna all over again. And you’re right, gojo’s the best limitless and six eyes user, so if megumi were to ever tame mahoraga, it wouldn’t matter to someone like gojo/sukuna since it’s inferior to those 2
