Hi. I use normal gardening soil mixed with sand. It's really well draining soil. This plant needs plenty of sunlight. I keep it outdoor under hot sun. It's thriving. If you are growing in cooler climate, it may struggle.

Hi. Croton is an outdoor plant. It thrives well outdoor. In indoor, it has to be placed beside a window that receives direct sunlight for many hours. I am not sure this plant helps with insomnia or not. However, if you have a good size neem tree growing outdoor beside your house, it can help. Or try sitting or relaxing under this tree for 1-2 hours every evening. I believe this will help with insomnia. As for Vastu shastra, I am sorry I am not familiar with this, but I found certain plants and trees like neem tree and Ficus religiosa or sacred fig in the land area nearby the house make the area feel very energetic. In fact having a lot of trees and plant itself naturally make the area filled with positive energy.
