Well, -Mr. Woodward has been a relevant inspiration throughout my life. I was editor of my h/s yearbook and writer for the newspaper. I haven't pursued journalism as a career but I still do some freelance work. For me he is a symbol of hope for American Journalism. The problem with media today is that they pick sides and report to certain demographics. I am a moderate liberal, but I don't like media outlets that only tell me what I want to hear. -I have not, and will no given up on journalism.
Funny how most people who said this have done a complete 180 on that stance after 2017. They just lack the self realization and continue to live in denial about it though.
@@kishascape Hi Kisha, you said that most people said “that.” I said a few things on this post (apparently 13 years ago). Lol. Which of the things that I said are you talking about?
@@TheRealBizWiz Adding another comment to this ancient thread, this is an assumption but the way I parsed it they're talking about how people are very entrenched in what they want to hear, and refuse to listen to anything else.
I was actually questioning the validity of a journalism degree, not if it helps you get a job. Some companies don't care what your journalism background is or what field your degree is in, so long as you have one. Having a degree doesn't necessarily make you a better journalist. That's like saying the best writers graduated with with an English major. It isn't necessary. Some people are just born to write. Those are the ones who should, not the ones who have to learn how.
We need some journalists to expose the lies of the insurance companies and let people know that greed is the reason for high premiums and not the low % of fraud.
Solid investigative journalism finds, no hunts down, the truth, facts that others have yet to find....or expose in a way for others to understand...I am a mother of a severely autistic son who has tried to do this (see you tube video autism epidemic out of control) to expose the rampant abuse of the word autistic these days...the problem today is many journalists don't have time to investigate...it takes a lot of time and research..it's easier to print simple stories that don't require much..
I will second your report that autistic persons are targeted and severely abused by the system. It’s horrible & I commend you & your son for your courage and bravery in working on this!
Bob Woodward epitomizes journalism in the US to me. I believe he was the first investigative journalist to find out that Joe Biden adores puppies. Next will be his book about the Biden family........ Favorite colors.
Shabby journalism huh? Oh, he’s been accused of that by politicians for decades. Woodward usually just dusts people like you right off of his shoulder and carries on. 😄
@@TheRealBizWizthat's right. He just counts the money they gave him to mouthpiece for the establishment and dusts all of us off on the way to the bank! Special thanks to Mark Felts for the assist-as in dropping the whole thing in his lap.
Where are his comments on in-depth journalism in the digital age? I'm trying to figure out how to do anything in-depth while racing around to pick up three vosots on a fatal car wreck, house fire, drug bust, etc... while writing two packages about a child murdered by his mom...
Hamza, Bob Woodward, author of 16 books is, perhaps the leading investigative journalist in the world. Please listen to his tips and try to browse through his revealing latest book "Obama's Wars". It full of insights on tensions in the White House on how to run the Afghan War.

"what they believe the truth to be". Inductive reasoning at it's finest. Lots of objectivity there. Rule #1 Leave your beliefs and feelings out of your journalism. That is for the editorial page.
Bob Woodruff always talks a kid from the slow bus. I think he's trying to show how deliberate he is in his thinking or something. Talking fast here though, for him. It should never take you 3 seconds to finish a word.

Are you telling me that the qualifications for being a journalist are on the same difficulty as those of a doctor? You don't need a college degree to be a journalist. Just a pen, paper and a little imagination to make a story when there isn't one.
I would hope that the new generation of journalists would go down a different path than these old losers. Try the truth and report facts, and you might open a whole new era where people would start to respect you and your works.
This country cannot flourish without true, investigative, time-consuming journalism. Truth cannot be conveyed in sound bites.
My major in college is journalism. interesting to see the input of more seasoned journalists
Even as a student news reporter, I can relate to Woodward`s story very much.

this is highly educational for someone interested in journalism.
Search for some rock music or something instead of making dumb comments.
This is really useful information. I want to be a reporter one day, so it's nice to get some tips.

Not likely given how much advertising they do, esp. in the media.
Sad but true. And the news is now expected to be entertaining rather than informative or accurate!
What would the world be without teabagging trolls?
It’s crazy how Washington post is the absolute WORST at journalism yet finds the nerve to post this from this platform
