I get so stressed out when I paint, I want it to be perfect!!!! But you put everything into perspective for me-“ just have fun with it!”-I need to keep reminding myself of that AND I need to practice, practice, PRACTICE!!!!!!!!
Love your gorgeous plump hydrangeas. I really enjoyed following along and painting with you. Thank you for your videos and demonstrating new techniques.
Thanks for stressing the importance of practicing! This is a great lesson and I’ve painted this with you multiple times! It’s awesome to feel successful. ❤❤❤
Wonderful! I've been wanting to break out of the comfort zone of my favorite brush, and here you are showing us how to use a flat brush to make hydrangeas! I had a crack at it immediately, and the results were so encouraging, everybody be getting hydrangea birthday cards now! Thank you, thank you for such a great lesson. 🥰
Another video that's perfect for me. Sometimes all the different parts of watercolor are overwhelming... so I worked up a curriculum where I'm just doing one bit at a time. 😂❤ Up until now I pretty much use one brush, the one I started with... it must be time to expand my horizons.
Love how quick and easy these came together. Very beautiful and soft and airy. I agree with what you say about just play and experiment. Thx for sharing.
Such a great reminder to just paint, practice, play and not worry about the outcome. I only get to paint occasionally, and spend too much time trying to get details just right. Also, I know you have been asking about people getting videos. I saw your request yesterday for people to comment on whether they receive videos. I received this one today, on Saturday.
So pretty! I always learn something when I watch your tutorials. When I try this technique, I think of it as rolling the brush more than twisting - rolling it between my fingers rather than twisting from the wrist, a combination of both movements though for more interesting results.
I love the idea of just playing ... I'm still planting so much in my gardens that all I want to do when I sit down is play with paints and brushes. Thank you!
Ellen, you are such a wonderful teacher!! This brush stroke looks so fun! Sometimes you’ve added ink to your watercolor and this technique lends itself to adding ink. I love the way Ohn Mar Win adds ink, and her watercolor often starts like this brush technique you’re showing.
This is the first time anyone has said practice with your brushes that I've every heard. I totally understand what your saying and hopefully it translates to my hand...lol Thank you
I really enjoyed painting along with you! I find myself struggling with being over critical when it comes to making things realistic, being able to paint loose keeps me motivated to pick up my brushes and keep trying.
@@ellencrimitrent it's true. Very beautiful but poisonous...stories about shipwrecked sailors using the wood as spits for their souvlaki 🍢 abound . But I painted it 😁 with your technique (then went in with a different brush to add detail) and I like the result...and I survived 😀. Have a lovely day...thanks for tutorial 💛
You are favorite to watch! You make it feel accessible and provide encouragement to try. I have this video on Playback speed of .25 trying to watch your motions so I can practice the twist strokes. May I please make a suggestion? Is there a way for you to angle your camera so your hand isn't blocking the motion and technique? Maybe from the side? Thanks for all your videos!😊
cape cod is sold out- it was posted last yr on my patreon first then public 24 hrs later sorry. I might be having a Boston 2 day workshop in Oct- so stay tuned.
I seem to have made my comment disappear somehow! Where do you hold your Cape Cod workshop? I lived in Brewster for 35 years! I have admired your style for quite awhile on Instagram. Just found you here!
May i just say that the thumbnail is what really got me on this video. I watch ALL your videos. Some of them over and over again. Just something about the latest thumbnail shouted "oh snap! New content!" and i stopped what i was doing to watch. Also, I try to be a responsible content consumer, so when I press play on a Creator's video, especially if it's the first playthrough, I watch it all the way through. I'm now on my second time watching the video for the day and I intend to paint along with it when I watch it one more time. Hope that helps?

Wonderful technique ❤❤
Thanks for this method. All I have heard from 2 teachers is criticism saying flowers are wrong, paintings are not finished, etc.
Seriously? Would they tell that to Picasso? Who are these ppl ?
Absolutely love! I’m trying this tomorrow ❤
Hope you like it!

Could you used this technique on a 5X7 card using a smaller flat brush? I love the results.

Would you use a small flat on top of the wet 3/4 flat for different size?
you could try it!
When I look at your painting, I see Hydrangea, which means it is impressionistic rather than abstract.
thanks :)
Yes!!
