  • The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Nigeria and the National Youth Service (NYS) in Kenya are both government-sponsored programs aimed at engaging young people in national development and fostering a sense of responsibility and patriotism. However, there are several differences and similarities between the two programs.

Thank you for your hard work presenting this. When you do the next video, include silent spaces where you do not talk yourself to the ground and start to ahh and mmm.
You need to balance your presence as well as the material you want us to see.

NYSC was solely created to foster unity in nigeria.
When we got independence from the british in 1960, there was so much hatred between northern Nigeria and southern, whilch culmulated into a civil wsr in the late 1960s. After the civil, the then Nigerian government formed the NYSC to foster unity between north and south. The idea is that, every indigin of southern Nigeria that has graduated from higher institutions must go and serve in northern nigeria, to know about the people and their culture. So is every indigin of northern Nigeria who has graduated must do same in southern Nigeria.

NYS was initially established for the same purpose as NYSC. NYS used to be compulsory for all Kenyan youths that were preparing to join university but that was scrapped off after the rampant strikes that Kenyan universities experienced in the 70s and 80s which were largely attributed to the training that rhr students acquired at NYS hence the mandatory aspect was scrapped off and purely meant to give training wnd skills to those Kenyans who couldn't get the required grades to join the university in order to acquire life skills or technical courses that would otherwise help them secure employment. This was a common initiative adopted immediately after independence meant for rallying theyouth and fostering national unity across Africa.

In comparison all states in Nigeria have NYSC camp. It looks like NYS in Kenya is all concentrated in one place or the video shows it is bring all of them together to celebrate.
