There are 3 kinds of people in this game: 1. People who understand pop culture references; 2. People who don't understand pop culture references; 3. Salim, The Vampire Killer.
Ok, so I did a bit of digging and military nicknames tend to become call signs after a bit. It was originally used to confuse the enemy and not give away delicate information (such as names/last names, lest the enemy go after the family...). Some are based on physical appearance (such as calling a tall ginger soldier "Big Red"), some are pop-references (like calling a girly soldier "Barbie" or "Bambi"), and some are genuinely creative and based around personality traits, like "CRAT" (can't remember a thing), or ZEUS (zero effort unless supervised). So Mailman was probably a reference to a messenger bag that Jason used to favor, and Dropkick was probably because Eric has a leg prosthesis (so he could literally drop his kicks).
But aren't Jason, Nick and Joey (or Merwin) all Mailman 12, Mailman 22, and Mailman 23?? I could be completely wrong, and I most likely am lmao. I was just wondering if Jason would have named his group that, because I thought that if it was something that related to Jason earlier on in life, then I was wondering why the others would have the same name. Btw, this comment is coming from someone who knows zero about the military or Marines, so I'm asking out of curiosity.
@@leeelahglitz47 I don't know anything about the military either but my thought is maybe since he's the team leader as "Mailman 2-1 Actual" they all fall under Mailman. Whereas Merwin and his team would've been "YoMama 2-1". Just a thought , but idk if it's true
@@jdegoose21 ah that's what it was. 2-1 (why tf I thought it was 1-2 idk lmao). But yeah, that makes sense! I was always confused about who belonged to where as well. I just thought Merwin was the technician, and then it was Jason, Nick, and Joey as Mailman
I used to work as a tour guide at a cave and if you opened that day part of your job was to go and make sure all the lights in the cave worked. That meant I had to walk through the cave, by myself, with just a flash light. I worked there for six months and that was never not terrifying. That is the fastest mile I have ever done, hands down.
Salim perfectly encapsulates the meaning of his name. Salim (faultless, safe, secure) and Othman (wise, most powerful, intuitive) Idk how anyone could not adore him im this game ❤
Woah. I never knew that. That's awesome! Idk why I never even thought to look up what his name means, so props to you for taking that extra step. No doubt they intentionally picked that name for him. Now you have me wondering if any of the other character's names mean anything significant to their personalities.
I made it my mission in my first playthrough to get him out alive at all costs, that's how likeable this character is. It's been a while since I enjoyed and liked a game character this much tbh, even for the "one survivor" achievement I killed everyone except him lmao they did great on this one imo
Yeah gab, Salim speaks Egyptian dialect, in the conversation that Gab repeat, "Salim garkum" its Egyptian dialect for the formal Fusha Arabic, "Salim Jarukum" mean, "I'm Salim, your neighbor" and when Salim complaint about the troops coming "...dil wa'ti" is their dialect for "... hadzal waqti" mean "....this time". Egyptians changed some arabic letters pronounciation, the best known for the Arabic learner is they changed the "J" (Jeem) to "G" (Geh) and not pronouncing the "Q" (Qaaf) except when they mention their capital Cairo "Qahirah". Thats why Jamal in Saudi read Gamal (like the deceased president, Gamal Abdel Nasser)
@@yspo8 i learnt Arabic when I was in high school, and able to make conversation with Fusha/Formal ones. I visited Cairo for study exchange for 1 month. The first time I arrived and tried to talk to Egyptian with Arabic, they raised their eyebrows and thought I spoke about holy scriptures 🤣. Thats when I learn about the arabic egyptian. Words like aiwa, gineh instead of jinaih, lesy, kuwais, kitir awi for kathir jiddan (very much). Lmao
I learned that Egyptians spoke a different version of Arabic when I learned of an Egyptian-born Israeli spy. He needed to infiltrate the Syrian government. However, his Arabic would have made him stick out. So he took courses to learn Syrian Arabic.
Okay, so, Joey states that it's bad luck to look back at the helo after landing for a mission, which(as far as I know) is an actual military superstition. But, there is another common superstition that says whistling before a mission is bad luck(pretty sure that one stems from the navy, but don't quote me). Gab pointed out that JOEY is the person whistling after the mission briefing, right before the mission. It's a minor detail, most likely added to help with the unsettling atmosphere, but the foreshadowing in that tiny little detail is incredible.
ok weird theory. salim was also seen whistling while walking back home in his first appearance. i cant tell if it's the same tune cos i'm kind of tone deaf. and there was that lady archeologist, the one whose remains they found in the cage, and she transposed the aliens' language into like a musical piece... do you think that piece was what they were unconsciously whistling, like they were somehow subconsciously picking up on the aliens' presence? if it is, that would be so cool
@CassCat69 rewatching this series and saw your comment. I'll listen to it and report back, I have amusical background. If you're right that's nuts and I absolutely freaking love it.
@@CassCat69 okay so as far as I can tell it's not the same tune, but they are eerily in the same key and some notes are either the same exact notes or very very close. It's also the same person whistling for both of them. It's hard to explain how I know so completely for sure, but everyone has a different whistling sound like how everyone has a different voice. Maybe you picked up on that too? I wonder if the two whistling segments could be layered if they make a tune together, Joey's was much slower, like back up instruments and Salims was more like a melody in pacing. It was an interesting thought and these games have Easter eggs everywhere so good shout anyways.
This was quoted from a Military thread: When you call someone on the radio, often you get their driver, aide, or RTO (Radio/Telephone Operator). When you need to talk to the person personally, you ask for their "actual", meaning you don't want to pass a message through another person. So Mailman 2-1 Actual would be Company name, Platoon 2, 1 meaning leader of that platoon and Actual meaning it was the actual person that you're radioing.
in the military, people can get paid more if they are married. lots of people get married very quickly and young because of this (and they can give that partner health insurance). its not at all unreasonable they know so little about each other with this in mind
While some do get married in order to receive their BAH, most young military members get married because of they meet someone and instantly think they are in love due to the rapid changes in their life. Between truly leaving home for the first time, the stresses of basic training, getting assigned their first permanent duty station, and meeting people that are unlike the people you grew up with. A young military member's mind is all messed up so romance is usually an attempt to find some balance. Also, if you get married and move into on-base housing, you still won't be receiving the BAH since the rent of them are always the full amount of BAH. Those thieving bastards.
Yeah I hear it's kind of a big stereotype that people in the military are very quick to marry (mostly learned about this from internet memes as I'm not American lol, like a picture of a guy with a ring box captioned "military guys on a first date"), so it makes sense if they weren't actually super close
Something I just kind of picked up, but this could be completely wrong. The book in Zain's room mentions ghosts punishing their descendants who don't leave offerings of food and drink. The symptoms included headaches, stomach pains, fever, and mental disorders. 1. Rachel places her hands to her head near the end of the game and screams in agony when she sees the vision. 2. Clarice was seen holding her stomach most of the time that she was infected, and it's also stated in notes that movement in the abdomen is a common symptom of the parasite. 3. Clarice definitely had a bad fever at the assault scene, when she was mutating. I think Jason is also seen looking sweaty and feverish when he inhales the dust if you fail the QTE. 4. In John's playthrough, Rachel talks to Nick after she has been infected, and she hears her own voice talking back to her inside of her head, which is a rather bizarre scene. Did they blame the parasites symptoms on vengeful ghosts and upset God's??
In my playthrough, when it came to the part with Jason reaching for the statue, I straight up backed out of the prompt and didn’t have to deal with any QTE. I just got a nasty feeling from it and I thought to myself: he’s come this far. Jason isn’t going down for stupid curiosity.
@@broomhilder I know right?! I didn't know it was an option to back out first time I did, and poor Jason gets bloody experimented on because of a failed QTE. 😑
I think it was probably their way to explain diseases and illness in general. “You got a headache? You probably didn’t give your ancestors good enough wine, sucks to be you I guess” even if it was just a migraine due to stress
Most things in the past were explained via gods, demons, or something spiritual in general. Similarly to how schizophrenia used to be mistaken for demonic possession.
It really sent me how Jason made that "Yorick" remark with that skull, which hinted to at least some knowledge about Shakespeare, but he didn't know who or what Buffy was... I'm so looking forward to learning more random facts about him and Salim in particular!
Same, honestly. I always found Jason and Salim to be such interesting characters! Jason comes from a bad background, and joins the Marines to make a change in his life. Salim had no choice, but did what he had too, to provide his son with a better future!
I appreciate you going back and replaying games like this for the different endings. I'm too invested not to know what all happens with these characters and I don't have the means to buy the game myself, so thank you.
Same, i get really invested in the story so when other TH-camrs have played some games, i have to go and look up the other endings and explanations of some stuff that happened. But with Gabs playthroughs, i don't have to! :)
it’s a dreary, rainy day here, and i’ve been moping around my apartment trying to get up the motivation to walk to class. this is just what i needed for listening while i walk!
The eyes in these games have always bothered me. They look weird because their eyes seem to be locked to head animations, moving around smoothly. Human eyes don't do that. Eyes jump around. They lock onto points in between head movements (try it). And you usually blink before focusing on something different. These character are perfectly wide eyed too often. Another layer of creepy for a creepy game?
IMPORTANT As Salim, in the sacrificial chamber, shoot the vampire on top of Rachel to avoid her from getting infected. Salim will be fine. Just tackled.
@Invalidationcoded Aparently so. But you MUST follow these conditions; 1. As Rachel in the blood pits, You must tell Clarice to stay way from you, be skeptical of her condition and abandon her at the caverns. 2. At Assault, Don't go for the gatling gum and run away, both will maximise her fearful trait. Just remember were you planted the mines! Do these and Rachel will not immolate herself. Alternatively; you can choose to escape rather then help Eric in the sacrificial chamber, but you will get a severe penalty to your relationship with him.
Hi, Gab, me again. I've gone platinum so I'm happy to help you with the secrets. #38 in particular can be tricky. You'll have to play theatrical or shared story for this, as the AI takes control of Rachel in the star chamber in curator. 1. As Salim, discover that the creatures burn in daylight, then make sure he kills one with Nick for Eric to autopsy. 2. Rachel must be infected and survive up to the star chamber. 3. Eric must survive up to the star chamber. 4. As Jason and Salim, discover the cocoon secret and examine the ancient warrior body. 5. As Rachel begins to turn, don't kill her! There will be further dialogue that will eventually prompt Eric to use the UV light on her. 6. You'll get control of Rachel. THIS IS TIME-BASED! The guaranteed method I've found for this part is to start on player right. You'll be looking in some holes. Count five seconds for each hole going from player right to left. For me, the thing drops on the third hole. There will be a quick QTE and then you just pick up the thing for the secret.
Pazuzu is considered King of Demons of the wind, the bearer of plagues and drought. He IS an evil spirit, but his power and influence is said to frighten away other evil spirits, such as his rival Lamashtu, and so his likeness was often featured in warding amulets and rituals. Seems to be something of a "Better the Devil you know" situation.
Thank you Gab for always being there for me. All your videos have been comforting me for years now. When I was in the most abusive relationship of my life, when I lost my father this February, and now when the love of my life, the best relationship I’ve ever had, and the one who was there for me when I lost my dad, just broke up with me this past weekend. I’ve done nothing but cry, I can barely eat or sleep, and yet you’ve been there for me and helping distract me and calm me. Thank you so much for existing. You’ve always lived the life I’ve wanted with the Asian languages and living there and playing games and being in shape and getting your tattoos and I look up to you a lot. I’m dealing with the worst heartache and heartbreak I’ve ever felt and have had 3 different types of loss and dreams and hopes destroyed and you’ve helped me through them so much. I can’t thank you enough for doing what you do. Thank you so much for being you Gab. 🌸❤
I just know he was sitting there like "why tf did I SAY THAT" Also I had the random angsty thought of Balathu in his Vampire form going to where Kurum is. Like hes drawn there but doesnt know WHY since hes infected. Like maybe some small part of his mind is still there and he visits the one person whos been there as long as him. And the only other human face there is too see (intact humannface anyways) Ik it makes no sense, but I like some sad angsty stuff 😂
I am obsessed with this game. I love watching how other people choose/play and the outcomes of each. Its like extended cuts in movies lol Plus can I just say, as someone who lives in Texas, its so nice to see this in a game. Of a county fella open their eyes more to see that race does not matter(,: it makes me cry every time. I adore seeing people overcome things and come together. Thank you for playing this through again!
yeah I was really not sure how to feel when I saw the middle east setting + the US military and seeing the way a lot of characters were talking about stuff. Not to mention the shit about WMD and Saddam Hussein... I was so afraid they were gonna try to act like the US invasion was justified, so it made me happy that they added more complexity and nuance to the situation and the characters have the opportunity to acknowledge their faults and set aside their prejudices.
@@Invalidationcoded yes! I was so nervous when I first was a play through because Jason is exactly the majority where I live and I was hoping his attitude would change.. Depending who plays what, it will change; usually for the better thankfully
52:00 The one at the bottom left of the UK map is “The Beast of Bodmin Moor” in Devon. Those tales scared the crap out of me as a kid! Love all that kind of stuff now! 🤷🏻♀️😂
I’ll admit, my initial thought was maybe it was the black panther rumoured to be on Dartmoor. But I did think that the geography would have been a bit off for that. Also, hello fellow Devonian 🤗
Thats really random wtf😂 Also I wonder how good (or how bad?) Ashley Tisdales pronounciation is. To me, a person who knows like 5 words in arabic total (3 of which are insults) it sound clunky af compared to the other characters and the people Ive heard speaking arabic irl (mainly my friends who tought me the swear words😂)
I think the king brought up the daughter to test his loyalty. Like show me that you’re on my side by killing someone that reminds you of your daughter.
I had my wisdom teeth removed 3 days ago and all I've been watching is your dark anthologies series! Super cool to see you make all sorts of decisions and how they change the game!
Just wanted to let you know that Rachel doesnt necessarily want to end up with Nick the game goes according to your choices. Also she is using Nick for comfort and vice versa. She and Eric were not able to reconcile what happened in the wreck. If this was going to be realistic she would chose Eric due to the past trauma and current trauma would bring them closer. It would show the flimsiness of her 3 wk sexual relationship with Nick.
@@billbill6094 I would have to agree. One of my biggest issue with choose your path style games is always the romance choices. They always have one choice that they try to make fit but really doesn't. In this case her choosing someone she has been sleeping with for 3 wks compared to someone who she has already shared trauma with and is now sharing again just is beyond believability. It's a video game so it doesn't have to be realistic just believable.
I was saying the same thing about eric and rachel asking questions like they didn’t know each other. And the comment about 2 weeks of dating and marriage made me chuckle. I didn’t get married but i met my boyfriend on xbox and moved from my home state to live with my boyfriend after knowing him for a couple months 🤣😅 granted we’re still happily together over a year later ☺️
watching your previous dark anthology gameplays in anticipation for the devil in me and all i can think watching house of ashes is salim: we need to get out of here, the vampire- jason: salim!! check out this cool thing i found!!! so glad they became friends i love them 😭 (also i hope u feel better!!!)
I love Jason and Salims friendship so much😂 The fact that theyve known each other for like a total of maybe 5 hours ?(aggressive estimate) But when someone is like "we should leave theres nothing we can do" Jason is like "??? Are you fucking insane?? And leave SALIM down there ALONE??? Did you accidently drink the vampire spit or why are you spoutin some insane bullshit??" And he GOES BACK into the hell alien vampire cave to save Salim. I love Jason 😂
In the beginning when Balathu say The enemy of my enemy and it’s about to Shake hands after putting away his sword it’s still has the sword in his hand lol
I like Merwin. Sure, he's offensive, but he's also reliable and, in his way, honest. His only pretence is his offensive humour which he likely uses to mask his vulnerability. He seems like a guy who wants to die (or has given up on life) for whatever reason, but at the same time he has not given up on living. He's just... deeply cynical. But being through a war can turn one that way.
Honestly I just like that hes so straight forward. He does clearly care for his team and is ready to sacrifice himself. I think when he survives beyond the first part he obviously knows hes gonna die, and hes ready to go out contributing to the mission. I do hate the sexist remarks with a passion though, but it makes sense. Its 2003 and military dudes, id be surprised if nobody said anything offensive. The Yo mama jokes are also fun,😂 just breaks up the tension a bit, which can be very important in irl stressfull situations which is, as you put it, the mask he puts on.
I know plenty people think it's cheesy/just dislike it but I always LOVE the intro song. Another weird thing, I've seen quite a few playthroughs and everyone talks about Rachel cheating. If she had split up with her husband for a year then she isn't cheating, right? Also, does anyone wish Joey wasn't killed right away? He seemed like an interesting character.
I dig the intro song as well! As for Rachel cheating... I mean they're married, so yes, that's cheating unless they get divorced which they didn't. I liked Joey's character too. I wish he was more involved in the entire story rather than him getting what he got so early.
She was lying to him regardless it was obvious from the get go he never wanted to end the relationship with Rachel only did it for work if she was honest throughout their split it would be different but she was hiding it and being weird
Kinda doubt it. If we havent seen any reoccuring characters I don't think we'd get Salim again. Most likely we'd just get the same actor but he would play a different character, like the folks who returned from Little Hope. I wouldn't say the UK map in Zain's room is a hint as to what the next season may be. This isn't the sims lol If anything I just hope it will be supernatural too or a really good true crime one
@@KiariLeader123 someone commented on the last video that the Winterfold woods were circled on his map with a question mark and the 2 people in hazmat suits at the end said something about this being like Winterfold all over again so even if it isn't connected, it's completely possible they're trying to bring our attention to that place as a potential setting. I've also heard that "Winterfold" has been leaked as a future dark pictures title for season 2
On the eclipse and the vampires, maybe the eclipse happens to line up with major hatchings of vampires and that plus the blood is what drew so many of them out in ancient times
13:20 thousands of people marching in step creates quite the tremor, just watch videos of buildings collapsing due to people all stomping together. that's probably what did it, hence the scene showing the dust raining down.
I wish Kurum and Balathur got justice and had more story into them. Balathur was a example of people being blind by fake rumours and no knowledge, he realised that they were killing people for no reason and both deserved something better. Being stuck for thousands of years in a cave but still being alive is the worst thing that could happened to a human being.
I think what I unironically love about the good girl playthrough is how the conversations between Eric and Rachel especially are just completely devoid of any tension or interest. It's just this abnormally functional couple.
Does anyone happen to know why the monsters don't come out of their cave when it's nighttime? This has been bothering me. I mean I get the bloodshed wakes them up, but do they just go into hibernation again after a couple of hours?
I think, and I might be wrong here (it's a bit of a stretch), it's because moonlight is actually just reflected sunlight - that is, moon doesn't emit any light of its own, just the one that bounces off it from the sun when it's in front of it. So, technically, although it IS nighttime, the light is still the same. Again, a bit of a stretch, but it also bothered me and that was the only thing I could come up with. It also explains why they got out during the eclipse when there was no light at all. I know it's a late reply, but I hope it helps!
@@yuxi5094 I might be wrong but isn't there still sunlight going into the temple/cave? If you can see inside and move around, then sunlight is reflecting off of surfaces and reaching your eyes, allowing you to see around you. I imagine the vampires would have burned up. Or is it direct concentrated sunlight that burns them?
The cave was sealed off. The holes only opened during the assault on the shepheard huts with the earthquake. I guess before that the demons had no way of getting out.
The shelf life of fuel depends on type of fuel. Leaded fuel would last longer than unleaded fuel and ethanol blended fuel but no fuel would last 58 years. Diesel while it may last longer than the ethanol blended fuel we have now it too would not last 58 years and still be capable of running an engine.
Interestingly, Pazuzu is a demon that wards off evil demons and protects mothers and fertility. Weird that evil monsters seem to be related to a such a protective being
I wish they had these on switch or pc :( also, I just rewatched your until dawn playthroughs and I feel like their games will never top that one lolll it’s soooo good
I've just found a way to avoid calling air support in Curator's Cut: when you start playing as Rachel, keep silent (Choose the "Say nothing" option) in all conversations before Eric makes a decision about the air support. Also, when the first conversation with Nick ends, don't pick anything (including the ring) and just leave the cabinet as soon as possible. Seems that it's the most important part: silence only won't get you rid of air support. In the Conference hall I read the secret document under the coffee cup and have been walking in circles until Eric and others appeared, and Eric decided not to call the air support. Update: seems that it's too complicated. To avoid air support in Curator's Cut you just have to choose more "Heart" phrases as Rachel at the start of the game than "Brain" ones. I chose only 1 "Brain" phrase as Rachel before Eric's decision, and he refused to use air support. So, Salim'll eventually return to his son.
The entire thing was great; it was cool to see different parts, and how they reacted differently depending on relationship level. My favorite part, though, was hearing "I need to kill!" from Gab, effectively out-of-context because I was distracted separating Halloween candy haha
You know, I was thinking about Crimson Peak and the Fatal Frame series recently and do you know what I think would be a cool addition to the lineup for these games? (Since they're apparently doing more than one set.) Games that are based on Gothic Horror and Edo Gothic (or just general J-Horror) respectively! I feel like with the latter especially, you could do some interesting things by blending Japanese horror atmosphere and tropes with some western horror tropes and high level graphical quality from the Dark Picture games to get a really enjoyable and terrifying experience.
No bc I still do not understand why they didnt simply stay near the holes where they fell in and/or tried to climb out.😂 It makes sense for Jason and Nick I guess (and Clarice) who were forced deeper into the cave. But why tf is everyone else doing that?? This is CLEARLY an ancient temple and not a weapons depot. Just climb out?!
Same but Im playing genshin impact 😂 Its like "The temple of wisdom💗💗💗" *does a cute little animation of a glittery dome* and meanwhile in the background its like *explosions* "AHH IVE BEEN SHOT HELP, THE AMERICANS!!!" *demonic screeching* 😂😂😂
Actual refers to Jason being the leader of the recon group, thus his callsign ends with actual. If the captain of a ship talks over the radio it would be something like: This is (ship name) actual, thus everyone would know it's the captain speaking. If the a in 2-1a would be said out loud it would be 2-1 alpha, as that is the phonetic term for a. B is bravo, c is charlie and d is delta etc.
Nah I can never watch the “kill everyone“ streams. I get too attached to these characters stupidly lul… I’m alright with Rachel and Nick dying, cause I hate both those characters, but I like the other three.
I don't know why Nick just didn't say that Salim literally just helped him survive and just had a pretty pleasant conversation with him seconds before he showed up.
i'm not certain as it's only a small section and hard to tell exactly but the creature near newcastle, on the map in zains room, may be the sockburn worm or the lambton worm. it's a local tale in county durham of a great dragoon or worm like beast that lived in the river tees and was slain!
Just to clarify, "Actual" does not just stand for "A" in a callsign. Jason is Mailman 21 because that is just the callsign assigned to him for whatever reason. The "Actual" means you are the commander of the operation under that callsign. So the whole operation would be given the name "Mailman 21" and anyone could theoretically respond to that as part of the operation, but when someone says "actual," you know you're speaking to the commander. It's harder for me to conceptualize with anything other than the Navy, which is what I was in. In the Navy, someone may hail the ship over the radio, or you identify the ship on the radio, with "Ship Name," but if the Commander got on the radio, they would add the "actual" so whoever was on the other end knew they were speaking to the top of the chain. I hope any of that makes sense.
The Gutians actually did cause the collapse of the Akkadians but about 100 years after the events of the prologue of the game. The city of Akkad's location is not even known. Also, the curse of Naram Sin is a real myth. Naram Sin also had another name as Naram of Assyria which many depictions of their warriors are show with those fancy armored beards. The colossal amount of carnage being wrought by the sacrifices and the battle is what caused the beings to awaken.
There is a connection between Eric and Rachel and Little Hope. They are the ones that get in the car crash which causes the bus to take the detour. The crash occurs when the couple were on their way to a nearby town for ice climbing. That is what the bio for Rachel says on the Dark Pictures wiki on fandom.
The bit of the Map in Zain's room circled near Glasgow at 51.49 looks like the location of The Kelpies in Falkirk, Scotland (central belt near Stirling and in between Glasgow and Edinburgh) but I don't think they were built until 2013.
I know this streamer beat the game before so I'm curious if she saw the making of the game or where they got their ideas for the game. I may be wrong but my guess was the film "Lifeforce." Minus the naked people and the energy draining ability. It's all there with the exception of specific additives (alien preservation sap and middle east campaign) that made the game different. An alien species. Vampire myth. The creatures die by destroying the energy center of their bodies instead of the center of the heart. Collection of people through mental influence. A bizarre ship. A colony of vampires in stasis. Ties to ancient myth. Even the appearance of the bat creatures looks almost the same as the creatures from Lifeforce.
If anyone likes the journal entries I'd suggest checking out The White Vault podcast. Basically horror in isolated places, ancient cities, and unknown monsters. The first season is a little slow but it really picks up after that. It's all modern day but all you get is the journal entries and recordings that are found after people go missing. Story wise it feels very similar to this game.
There are 3 kinds of people in this game:
1. People who understand pop culture references;
2. People who don't understand pop culture references;
3. Salim, The Vampire Killer.
This things not vampires because it's alien

Woah. I never knew that. That's awesome! Idk why I never even thought to look up what his name means, so props to you for taking that extra step. No doubt they intentionally picked that name for him. Now you have me wondering if any of the other character's names mean anything significant to their personalities.
Hes so precious
that’s super cool! I love learning meanings of names and I thought his name was badass from the first time it popped up on the screen
Thats why Jamal in Saudi read Gamal (like the deceased president, Gamal Abdel Nasser)
this is very interesting to know, thank you!
Lmao
@@yspo8 a lot of people learning it outside of Middle East.
You explained that better than I would have! Just one correction it’s ha’da waiti not hadzal ☺️
“This is the good girl playthrough!”
*shoots helicopter down*
😂
Helicopter down is Game over 😂
What?! She was obedient, and she had good aim!
This was quoted from a Military thread:
When you call someone on the radio, often you get their driver, aide, or RTO (Radio/Telephone Operator).
I love the fact that you can see things from a different perspective when you do the Curator's cut.
Well done! Getting up and getting going is sometimes so challenging.
Thank you for noticing this! It's incredibly distracting. I don't know about scary
Not to mention they absolutely refuse to look at each other when they're having a conversation!
IMPORTANT
As Salim, in the sacrificial chamber, shoot the vampire on top of Rachel to avoid her from getting infected. Salim will be fine. Just tackled.
I heard Rachel can also be saved after being infected?
@Invalidationcoded Aparently so. But you MUST follow these conditions;
Thats actually awesome. 😂 I love the thought process of using the mega evil Demon King to scare all the other Demons 😂
Small detail that's cool:
On the helicopter when Rachel is giving Merwin sass, she has finger smudges on the lenses of her sun glasses lol
"No, I don't want to die!" well the way he got half preserved alive for 4000 years + he sorta got his wish.
I just know he was sitting there like "why tf did I SAY THAT"
Also I had the random angsty thought of Balathu in his Vampire form going to where Kurum is. Like hes drawn there but doesnt know WHY since hes infected.
Like maybe some small part of his mind is still there and he visits the one person whos been there as long as him.
And the only other human face there is too see (intact humannface anyways)
Ik it makes no sense, but I like some sad angsty stuff 😂
I could listen to you read mythology for hours. Time to get cozy and rewatch this game again.
I am obsessed with this game. I love watching how other people choose/play and the outcomes of each. Its like extended cuts in movies lol
Plus can I just say, as someone who lives in Texas, its so nice to see this in a game.
I like the comebacks of Rachel when confronting Merwin.
Gab- “For the sake of speed.”
Jack/Sean somewhere in the deep recesses of my mind- “SPEED IS KEEEEYYY!!!”
The Arabic spoken by Salim is indeed Egyptian dialect, but Salim's voice actor is Lebanese-American so I am not sure why Egyptian dialect 🤷🏾♂️
Thats really random wtf😂
Also I wonder how good (or how bad?) Ashley Tisdales pronounciation is.
To me, a person who knows like 5 words in arabic total (3 of which are insults) it sound clunky af compared to the other characters and the people Ive heard speaking arabic irl (mainly my friends who tought me the swear words😂)

Nick's face when Clarice gets taken by the Vampires always gets me lmao
Or she could end up alone right?
If I were Nick or Eric I'm leaving her in the past. There's a war going on, more imoirtant things than a love triangle.
It's a video game so it doesn't have to be realistic just believable.
watching you while doing my design assignments.
It's been so long since I've joined a stream but I'm still subscribed so I can still show my support
I just marathoned your first playthrough last night and I'm so tired but I saw you posted this today and I was so excited. Ready to watch again!

I was saying the same thing about eric and rachel asking questions like they didn’t know each other. And the comment about 2 weeks of dating and marriage made me chuckle. jason: salim!! check out this cool thing i found!!!
so glad they became friends i love them 😭 (also i hope u feel better!!!)
I love Jason and Salims friendship so much😂
The fact that theyve known each other for like a total of maybe 5 hours ?(aggressive estimate)
But when someone is like "we should leave theres nothing we can do"
Jason is like "??? Are you fucking insane?? And leave SALIM down there ALONE??? Did you accidently drink the vampire spit or why are you spoutin some insane bullshit??"
And he GOES BACK into the hell alien vampire cave to save Salim.

I think Joey whistling was supposed to be a red herring, since he dies so early and you can't change it.
It's a bad luck omen.
Gab when making tough decisions :
Hold on lemme consult the group chat
In the beginning when Balathu say The enemy of my enemy and it’s about to Shake hands after putting away his sword it’s still has the sword in his hand lol
Cool bro
@50:58 ghosts from the house of ashes are just petty af
"oh you didn't give me an offering?? HERE'S A LOAD OF ANXIETY"
Ok but that’s how I would be as a ghost.
Technically that's the alien disease that people mistook for ghosts, all the signs were consistent with how we see infected people act.
I'm so surprised that Gab didn't recognize the actors from previous games, I instantly recognized them
Nice ❤️ I watched John Wolfe and jacksepticeye play this, only at part 2 for you
Oh hey Gab look I've made it to 1 year of membership :) 🖤
Phasmofobia ?
The mythical creature near Glasgow on Salim's son's map is a kelpie - a water horse spirit.
We all need to appreciate Jason and Salim’s meet cute.
THEORY: season 2 will delve into UK mythos and monsters. Maybe the map in Salim's son's room is a hint? I think that we may see Salim again (I hope)
This isn't the sims lol
If anything I just hope it will be supernatural too or a really good true crime one

This is truly the best intro of all time. Can't wait for the final chapter!!!!
Plus remember the cave only opens during the military operation, the monsters have no opening to the world before that.

(Since they're apparently doing more than one set.)
Games that are based on Gothic Horror and Edo Gothic (or just general J-Horror) respectively! I feel like with the latter especially, you could do some interesting things by blending Japanese horror atmosphere and tropes with some western horror tropes and high level graphical quality from the Dark Picture games to get a really enjoyable and terrifying experience.
No bc I still do not understand why they didnt simply stay near the holes where they fell in and/or tried to climb out.😂
It makes sense for Jason and Nick I guess (and Clarice) who were forced deeper into the cave.
But why tf is everyone else doing that??
This is CLEARLY an ancient temple and not a weapons depot.

I don't usually watch the "kill everyone" streams because it's too depressing but maybe I will thus time because the game is just so good

Cool glad your playing curators cut nice one Gab
Loved Buffy and the intro was awesome. I had it as my phone ring tone for ages. 🙂
24:16 I don't know why but his "There you are" warms my heart
Omg I'm only now realizing that Dar is the Professor from Little Hope 😱 I already noticed Clarice, but not him
The bit of the Map in Zain's room circled near Glasgow at 51.49 looks like the location of The Kelpies in Falkirk, Scotland (central belt near Stirling and in between Glasgow and Edinburgh) but I don't think they were built until 2013.
I'm so glad I have this to watch while I'm doing laundry!! Thanks Gab!!
Aaa yisss! I love this game and love how you replay it. This game is new and people rushed it and got bored of it already. Wish more gamers replay it.
AHHH I'M SO READY! thanks for doing the good route
The "Lore" podcast also deals with similar themes if you're in for a look
