These shaped homes are smart. In the south we do get hurricane winds, and tornados. In a box house, they are of the past.

I clicked because of the thumbnail. Your home design is very similar to a traditional Navajo "hogan". There's thousands of these homes on the Navajo reservation.

That's very interesting. A around building, from an energetic point of view, is a much better design. Natives knew this from long ago!

Very nice "Granny Cabin" well done for accessibility. Maybe some open roller bins might help with accessible items close to resting areas. But I too understand about being able to keep up your home when it isn't easy for you to get around. Thanks for allowing us to see the alternative housing that can be made available.

Something I saw once in a tour of a shorter person's house was shelving that has a rod thing on the side (there are other versions) to pull shelves out and up or out and down so everything is reachable. As you age, you start to think about things like how to age in place, which includes dealing with difficulties in movement, bending, injuries, needing assistive devices, etc.
Great video and there was not one thing at all for him to be embarrassed about. Lovely home and so wonderful that mom's needs are considered. Thank you for sharing this and for your senstive approach.

Its a beautiful & nice little house! A very nice size for one or two people. How I would love to have a porch like that one. Thank you all for sharing it with us! I love the pull out drawers! I'm also disabled and have to use a walker or electric wheel chair to get around in any distance. I have to keep my clean pans on my stove because I can't reach them under the cabinet. When a person is disabled its such a struggle to reach things & to just get around. It can be very frustrating & exhausting. I'm sure the lady of the house sure appreciates things fixed easier for her. Thanks again for sharing this nice home with us!

This home is cozy, efficient, and beautiful. Built by loving hands. I am relieved it wasn't that horrible, sterile, mass produced interior touted by so many builders. My first thought on seeing the inside was how comfortable and safe it felt. I felt like getting a cup of coffee and settling down for a good conversation! ☕

Really a very nice home and well done. I like it. Also, having taller ceilings allows heat to rise and keeping the living area a little cooler. Before AC, that's how they built homes and why you see taller ceilings in the south where it's hot. Keep up the great work.

Perfect for shorter people too! I am now 66 yrs old and having mobility problems and this would be so wonderful. NO ONE knows as I was a dancer and very active and did nursing and now this trouble, so best to always think of later years when building if you want a forever home, anyway. It can be used for all ages and that would be the best way to be there for ever. It should be economical and this is that too! (Pantry addition would be just right for that area, I believe. )

I love this house. Especially since I too am handicapped. He needs to feel no embarrassment over clutter the house is clean. Only thing I can say is I would have built in cabinets or shelves on inner walls to create more storage. But it is a beautiful testament off love and caring for a parent. Bless him and her.

      Ditto, Paul Morgan.
I am so encouraged that this son has actually helped his mother and to this extent, and received such excellent construction help that I am still in awe.
I cannot even get my current little house restored to minimal function since 2013 when a careless home health care attendant caused a massive overflow flood and over $60k in damages. Very long story, and way too long to detail it all here, not even the 'highlights' - but I am a multipli-disabled senior citizen, alone since the age of 24 [five immediate family member funerals within an eleven month interval back in 1976; and then Life got REALLY bad after THAT! ;-)) I need a few dozen miracles to manifest soon, or this will not end well, now that the city govt -- 'code enforcement' have intruded, not helped, who know nothing* about MCS, or any other disabilities for that matter [nor do they want to know, nor learn]. Multiple Chemical Sensitivities -- where even tint exposures to 'modern' chemicals, solvents, synthetic chemical fragrances, adhesives, pesticides, molds, etc. are quite deadly for us ].
      * when my correct MCS diagnosis was first confirmed in 1981 the team of medical specialists that saved my life responded to my questions of "I don't understand"; their response was "You don't HAVE to understand MCS, in order to comply with it [the protocol], if you want to stay alive.
By the time it was 1983 I literally hit face down, and was then given six months to live because I was still in denial mode that it was really "that serious". It was. I had to finally make things a true priority against all odds and resistance from others, and with ZERO resources. I had to create that safer refuge for my survival and protection from a very chemically toxic world around me, and in so doing, I was alive beyond 1984; not well but still alive. Then those 33 years were all undone by the flood created by a careless person who neglected to push the faucet that final 1/4" closed. And not block both sink drains. Had both drains remained unblocked all I'd have had is a whopper water bill for one month, not all these nightmares.
And I fully relate to the ambulatory and reach challenges. I've been struck three different times by 'impaired' drivers; the first when I was 19 in 19771, the next at age 37 and the third in 1991 at age 40; bedbound for years, and no help for decades. I have been in 24/7 pain without relief since 1976. The 'help' sent me by the State, in 2013 then destroyed my only safe place to be since 1983.
I think the octagonal footprint idea is a great one, just different, and requires first thinking in obtuse angles, not 90 degree ones, then adjusting to "different"!
      Great work, guys!

A house that looks like this is a perfect representation of a house that is lived in. I don’t know why people fantasize about living in a house that 365 days of the year somebody could come in and take photos for a magazine, it’s unrealistic and it’s unnatural. We all know what a normal house looks like and this is that. A perfect depiction of a house that shows signs of love.

cute little house and nice inside I am surprised however that if your mom is handicapped why you have so much furniture in there then necessary for one person. being handicap means getting around is difficult all that extra furniture is a obstacle and chance of a fall. I would personally downsize the table, get rid of that extra chair, open up the space more and clean out the drawers to only the necessary thing, seems like mom (like so many I have known) is a little bit of a hoarder. I remember taking care of my sister who was in wheel chair bound ina small apartment we had the bare minimum and even then there were some obstacles to pushing her around and getting her into and out of bed. it was alot smaller by the way than that house, which I think is a adorable house and smart to build with tornados and hurricanes in mind.

I love this house and I love that storage underneath the house but I think if I were to build this I would not even put a wall between the rooms and I would do everything on the wall the kitchen counter on the wall with windows above it to make the space more open it is rather cluttered but I can understand that she needs to have things at a place where she can reach them but It does appear kind of choppy but thank you for bringing it to your videos it really is adorable and the location is beautiful

I am so happy to find this site. I'm also disabled, although not in a wheelchair yet, and want a SMALL home, same 900sf. How can I contact Danny about building me one, if he'd even consider it? I live on TX Gulf Coast, not in Spur. God Bless You!
