I really like what you said about Cioran and hope. It brings me joy as well. The sheer excoriation of despair is just beautiful and funny.

Cioran ( (th-cam.com/video/R1ZGg_rywMc/w-d-xo.html) ) a regretat tăierea de pasaje din LACRIMI SI SFINȚI tradusă de Sanda Stolojan. In link despre traduceri trădătoare.

He was a true romanian. Not wanting to work and have opinions about everything

Cioran finds liberation in failure...in losing. He reminds me of the Buddhist saying, "If you find yourself in hell, stay there."

Really enjoying this. As an aside, I would have loved to hear more exposition regarding the qualitative/historical differences between Russian and Western European nihilism.

I couldn't tell you where, I'm afraid, but certainly Nietzsche discusses the Russian nihilists. Though, as you'd expect, not in any directly biographical or historical way.

Elisa Gabbert writes well about Cioran in her recent nonfiction book THE UNREALITY OF MEMORY. Recommended!

Just as an aside to the Semitic issues: his essay ‘A People of Solitaires’ is one of the most philo-Semitic pieces you’ll find. Even Blanchot couldn’t have dreamed of that level of cultural appreciation in writing.

Funny how people enjoy the backstory to philosopher's lives....I only want the ideas they have to offer....just don't have time to hear about someone's life....I have my own life story to live, and I have to be involved with friends and family life stories.....enough of that.

The backstories of their lives give a context to their ideas. The two cannot be separated. Schopenhauer saw ghastly things on his travels that influenced his pessimism greatly, for example.

Watch sisyphus 55 if you're this bored by full Analysis instead of summarized analysis, Philosophy is supposed to be dense and boring when it comes to the nitty gritty
