In one way I agree with you , but in another this is vintage- so probably few decades old and I am also happy that the bag was really used and lived her life, and not just being placed on a shelf because it is so precious. You know what I mean?
But yes one should take care of this bag
Probably owned by someone's grandmother that kept on carrying it and carrying it and their eyesight was failing so they didn't notice it's wear. My grandmother used to carry a purse in this condition (not an Hermes but a quality British made purse) until she died and after living through the depression/war as an adult, it was probably more important to her to get the full life out of it.
It's just well-loved, get over it.

I like it. I do love a bit of wear on my leather goods...but now whoever uses it can put on more wear with a clean slate!
You can like worn leather but not on a $20,000+ Hermes bag. That’s the same as burning money.

@Liz Sears, I know I am not the person who posted this video but I do think I can list out some of the products used in this restoration and point you in the correct direction. The bag was obviously showing color fading and was re-dyed in the video using black “leather dye”, some people refer to it as leather “stain”. The yellow soapy substance used in the cleaning of the bag was most likely a “saddle soap” which was applied using a horsehair brush. The remade handles were most likely made with a full grain, calfskin leather if not then it was most likely regular cowhide. Finally, the edges were also died with “leather dye”, like I mentioned above. I hope this got you pointed in the correct direction.

The professional only did what he was payed to do. Maybe the owner of the bah didn't ask for the other services.
I think using a wool dauber or sponge applicator would do a better job in applying the dye. But overall, still a good video!

It looks like pumpkin soap. I use it to clean my leather shoes and bags.
In this case , saddle soap , leather condithioner , anilin cream. Inside was just wipe with water.

When is real buttery leather after having it for 3 yrs or more the leather gets that way. I have a coach bag that got that way to it was black and I dyed it pure white. Love it😂

Without a doubt a quality bag. But why would anyone let such a mindblowingly expensive bag go like that!? I looked it up. Insane just utterly insane, the price is. And now someone else got a great bag, thanks to you and your skilled labour. Probably for a bargain compared to it´s originale price. At least i am hoping it is someone elses bag now.

GOOD JOB!! . The only thing missing is that it seems that you have to give a confitioner leather , because the leather looks dry.

Is it just me wondering why Hermes used such awful painted, lacquered leather to make this, no doubt, excruciatingly expensive bag in the first place?
Exactly seeing such expensive bags ending up in those conditions make wonder if it’s all BS worth buying a designer bag ?
Seeing Chanel and Hermès bags in these conditions make me feel good for sticking up with Michael Kors or similar.

Yes, I fully agree. Human Neglect can literally destroy a leather bag including an Hermes bag.

Hermes also informs the buying client of the aftercare best practices to maintain its lustre for decades.
I love this Kelly briefcase, and it is on my wishlist - this particular one is made of fine box leather, which is sensitive to the elements: rain, sun, humidity, dust, snow etc. More robust leathers are togo or epson leather.
This Beautiful Creation is sold retail at the 9-11K USD mark.

Goodness, what on earth did the owner use this handbag for, digging the garden! I mean there's getting good use out of an expensive handbag, but there's also taking good care of it as well. An amazing restoration though 👍.
