  • Uninterrupted Power Supplies are very heavy but contain reasonably good scrap value in large Transformers & Lead Acid Batteries as well as a heavy circuit board.
    The steel casing itself is a very heavy gauge steel and the covers can be use for other steel projects so I don't send the covers to the scrap yard.

    That last UPS you tore apart would have made a great inverter for a solar setup... And I'm pretty sure it was a good unit just with bad batteries. They almost always are.

    Deano here from the Napa Valley, CA, USA. Any chances of getting shocked by anything as you scrap these ? I enjoy your site. You are very thorough and explain things well. I also like when you tell what's valuable and what isn't.

    You mention keeping things. Do you ever find you just have piles and piles of stuff?

    Another tantalum question... those very small round capacitors that are on those boards. are they tantalum? they are the exact same color as the stand-up style yellow tantalum capacitors but they're usually way to small for me to read the markings on them and also to see if they have a "+positive" sign on them

    • @eWasteBen
      @eWasteBen  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +zackcat276 yeah the little ones on the second board are tantalum, but if too small to read they're usually too small to remove, they crumble easy, but yeah epoxy dipped tantalum capacitors.

    • @zackcat276
      @zackcat276 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +eWaste Ben thanks again! wasn't sure on those. I never tried removing them, I just put them in their own pile to work on later. I'll give it a shot taking them off of the board because worse case they crumble, best case they get added to the tantalum jar. worth it because it's not like it takes any weight away from the board

    How do you test the batteries? I know you can check the voltage. How do you check that it will hold a charge?

    • @eWasteBen
      @eWasteBen  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Us Scot It's only a basic test but I charge the battery, volt test, connect a little dc motor from a printer and run for 30 seconds and test to see if it holds charge, if it drops a lot it's probably spent.

    • @boonedockjourneyman7979
      @boonedockjourneyman7979 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Get a tester at a junk tool sale. They are everywhere. Maybe $10.

    • @davypeleman3672
      @davypeleman3672 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      test the voltage if i'ts not to low try charging them, a good charger will indicate iff they are dead and not charging. if the voltage is around or 0 don't bother try charging them they will be probably dead

    Why can't ANYONE Tell how to Dissemble and get Lead from 12 Volt, 7Ah hour Alarm/UPS Batteries. No Videos yet say, They Do say in description, Have Probably 60-80 from old Alarm/UPS Panels. MAYBE Razor Knife around top, Mabe Chill to freezing and Break, Sawzall?, Chainsaw? I will have to look more, But When Searching Scrapping 12 Volt Alarm/ UPS Batteries, PLEASE DON'T SAY IN TITLE. No more Looking Tonight, Don't think anyone REALLY knows.
    PITA. NIT your fault, was just last one I searched with no Luck. Wish you the Best, Wish even more you would say.
