Although it has blue-collar roots dating back more than a half-century the 2022 Range Rover's high-end interior and first-class curb appeal are designed to attract wealthy, white-collar buyers. While its transformation has been decades in the making, this leather-lined limo has reached a point where it's nearly six-figure starting price seems an appropriate ask. The cabin features upscale finishes such as leather, wood, and thickly-piled carpeting. And there’s plenty of tech too. Buyers can choose either a turbocharged inline-six or a thundering 523-hp twin-turbo V-8 engine, but all models come standard with off-road-capable features, such as an all-wheel-drive system, a rear-wheel steering system, and an air suspension that can be raised for extra ground clearance. Few Range Rover owners would dare to venture too far from paved roads, but knowing you could if you wanted to is, in fact, a luxury. In an odd twist, this new generation of Range Rover, launched for the 2022 model year will sell alongside a 2022 model of the previous generation until inventory runs out.
What's New for 2022?
The all-new 2022 Range Rover-not to be confused with the outgoing model, which is also a 2022-is redesigned from the ground up with updated styling, new tech features, and luxury touches. The outgoing-generation Range Rover, which is also a 2022 model and on sale for the time being, receives few changes for 2022. The diesel V-6 and plug-in-hybrid P400e models have been discontinued from the new Range Rover lineup, leaving the turbocharged inline-six and the supercharged V-8 as the only powertrain options. Buyers can now also add a more robust cabin air-ionization system as well.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
SE: $105,350
Autobiography: $153,350
First Edition: $159,550
Land Rover hasn't yet released a detailed list of the new Range Rover's standard and optional features, but we'd recommend opting for the mid-range Autobiography model, which will undoubtedly add several sought-after items that luxury buyers will appreciate. For example, the Autobiography comes standard with a 1600-watt Meridian stereo system featuring headrest-mounted speakers and active noise cancellation. The Range Rover will be offered in both a short- and long-wheelbase body style, and we suggest going for the latter since it creates room for a third row of seats and a more generous cargo area. When we find out more about how each of the Range Rover's trim levels will be equipped, we'll update this story with more details.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
At launch, the new Range Rover will be available with either a 395-hp turbocharged inline-six with a 48-volt hybrid system or a new 523-hp twin-turbo 4.4-liter V-8 engine. The entry-level hybrid powertrain is available only on the base SE trim, but the V-8 is optional on the SE and standard on the Autobiography and First Edition models. Land Rover says a 434-hp plug-in hybrid option will join the lineup for 2023 and will offer up to 62 miles of electric-only driving; an all-electric model will be available starting in 2024 and a high-performance SV model is said to be in the cards, possibly with a more powerful version of the twin-turbo V-8. When we have a chance to test drive the new Range Rover, we'll update this story with driving impressions. Meanwhile, the outgoing Range Rover, which buyers may still find lurking on a few dealers’ lots, might be a relative bargain.
Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG
While EPA estimates have not yet been announced for the new Range Rover, we expect the new model will adhere closely to the outgoing model's fuel-economy numbers. The base hybrid powertrain should deliver around 18 mpg city and 23 mpg highway while the V-8 model will come in slightly lower in both categories. When we find out more about the Range Rover's fuel economy we'll update this story with details. For more information about the Range Rover's fuel economy, visit the EPA's website.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
Like the outgoing generation Range Rover, the new model offers a plush interior decked out with rich leathers and woods, but buyers who want a more sustainable cabin can opt for a new leather-free option, which subs-in wool or other textiles. The interior can be arranged to seat four, five, or seven depending on configuration and wheelbase. An optional motorized divider for the cargo area helps keep things from moving around too much during travel, and the Range Rover's split rear liftgate can be used as convenient and comfortable seating for outdoor events.

I have a 2008 and it a monster. I love it. If I could afford another one, The purpose would be for safety. I had a car accident the vechiel hit me on my driver's side. The quality of this vehicle prevent me from getting killed. No dents, only a stretch mark. Absolutely the greatest protection..

I'd say the opposite. I've had Rangeys since '92 and they were always concise, clear, easy to use and certainly never flashy. Now you need to swap menus and mess about.

Owner of two, I have to say the infotainment system still needs work, still doesn't update as often I needed the incline to be fixed I had to way over an year for a fix, got the car in the beginning of 2020 in the end of 2021 I had the fix. To fix anything in this car it cost an arm and a leg, super expensive. It is up there close to the likes of Rolls Royce, Bentley, and Exotic Cars. So be prepared to have at least $50,000 saved just to fix the kinks on this car if you buy, now if you lease they have to fix it but expect to take forever. At this point my next car should be the Bentley Mantega, I mean Bentayga. At least I get first class treatment. Land Rover usually makes you sit there waiting or you have to make appointment in advance if you need a car loaner and they don't even give the same level loaner any more they give anything on the lot or a courtesy car pathetic that could end-up being a Ford Explorer or Lincoln Navigator seriously! But I the off road capabilities are amazing so get rid off the infotainment and all the useless luxury and leave the car like it was meant to be " And I am not talking about that ugly Defender that's another let down on its own" an off road vehicle NOT a car for mommies to take the kids to school as you can see from the advertisements only beautiful woman with silk clothes on these vehicles SERIOUSLY! It was meant for off road no to go to a fashion show and if that's the case fine just don't advertise as an off road vehicle. Now, if you are someone from a "Third World" I hate this terminology but hey I didn't came up with it go blame whoever did. And you don't know any better go ahead and get one, most people are easily misled by beautiful ostentatious materialistic innovations they usually no nothing about it. Safe travels make the most of whatever you drive. 🙃

I think by the design how it looks this range already beet up the premium SUV models like: Bentley, Rolls Royce, Jaguar, Lambo, Porsche......and etc.

The outgoing model in my opinion. My brother and one of my best friends has the 2018 RR sport which I love but I prefer the traditional RR for myself. I was hoping the redesign would motivate me to go and get one. Maybe next redesign. It’s still nice though

Looks stunning, but I don't know. Land Rover is famous for electronic gremlins with some owners skipping repairs because even Land Rover techs don't know how to fixed some of the gremlins. Now this beautiful piece of rolling art is basically a computer, everything is sync and controlled by software and an app.
I own the 2017 Autobiography version, which is really great. But this restyling is the best ever.

overall the design retains the range rover DNA. It looks futuristic and up to date, however I was saddened by a few things. First the rear design, it's clean and extremely minimalist, but it loses that aggressive look of the headlights that we loved so much. The simplicity we expected in the interior was transferred to the exterior where it fails to evoke the same feeling as the previous model, at least it retains the vertical design and that's appreciated. Thank goodness they kept the split tailgate (otherwise i would have had a heart attack). i would have expected leather seats as standard (as in the previous model's accessories). on the interior, there is a very fine quality of materials and good colour shading. but again the design baffles me. the interior always valued minimalism, and now especially in the doors they overloaded it with intrusive lines that mess up the design, it makes me too much visual noise. the seats that filled me with expectations in the concept turned out to be common without surpassing the previous version. and now the biggest blunder (if the rear design is not already one by itself), to place 3 rows of seats? seriously? i love dscovery 7 seats but.... was it necessary in a range rover? when the l405 was launched in 2013 i still remember my first impression: 4 individual seats, the rear ones separated by a full console: that was a real jet, it created the feeling of exclusivity and individual space. but now we will have to stop at every bus stop to pick up people? seriously? the double screen of the previous model looked very beautiful and perfectly harmonious with the T design. now it looks like it's glued on. as if they forgot the screen when they finished the design...and bam! inserted in two minutes. i think the big breakthrough is in what you can't see. engines, technology and many other things, but precisely what you can see and what we loved so much, remains at 80%. i can no longer say "the best just got better".... it remains the same, but has subtly deviated.
