  • Heading down the river from Sauk City to Boscobel. Just shy of 60mi trip. Three days, two nights. Wisconsin was/is having an incredibly dry year, the river was very low and barely moving. What was supposed to be an enjoyable fishing cruise ended up being more or less a paddling marathon to stay on schedule. Video is mostly visuals of the trip and camp sites. If you have any questions about the experience, I'll be happy to share what we learned.

I am watching your video but just read description. Water was low and not moving... is that uncommon for that river ... it seems pretty wide. is it a slow moving river normally? We are looking to plan for our trip for next year...

Hey Hans, usually the river moves at about 3-4mph. We figured it was moving at about 1-1.5mph. We had a very unusual dry spring and early summer this past year that led to the low river. This just meant more paddling than expected. We still did about 60mi in 2.5 days.

@@beagleboss1334 thanks - would you recommend that stretch ?

@@HanzgohFilms I would. We enjoyed it. I had young kids at home and a job so I was on a time crunch that meant I had to hustle... but, another full day and that would have been a very leisurely journey. Lots of islands and places to camp. Great scenic beauty.

what stretches of the wisconsin river would you recommend that shuttle back to your starting point? I’m a solo camper and want to try a stretch of the wisconsin river and sand bar camp.

Matt, unfortunately, I'm not sure. We didn't use a shuttle service. We drove my buddies truck to the end and then drove mine to the start point. There were/are a bunch of outfitters along the way. I'm sure a Google search would get you to where you need to go "Wisconsin river outfitters". I'd just recommend planning on stopping earlier rather than later. We were in a rush so had to paddle long days due to the slow flow. Every time we wanted to stop we kept finding people in the locations we planned to. So start looking earlier in the afternoon, don't wait until you need to.
