Air in the system will mess with the fan switch sensor in the D17, it wont come on at the right times, which definitely happens when your head gasket is blowing bubbles into the coolant

I have an 05 with the 1.7. Similar issue. Do you not run the AC when you are driving? The fans stay on with the AC running. Did you do the head gasket since this video?

Yes, the fans stay on when the AC is running, but I was trying to diagnose why they weren't coming on as they should have been when the AC was off. I did end up replacing the head gasket, I have few videos on that. Car is still running great and is now nearing 300,000 miles.

My 04 had all the same symptoms I did the head gasket test with blue chemical and it stayed blue never changed color. Could it be the water pump?

It could be. Replacing the water pump is a pain since it's internally mounted. Make sure your fans are working correctly and that they are coming on when they need too, if they are then the water pump could be the issue.

Bought a 03 ex. Overheated and come to find out I need a new radiator and tubing etc. okay fixed a few hundred dollars later and I find out I have a bad head gasket ( just like you) fixed boom 3000 miles on the car I’m sitting at at Sam’s club gas station line and the car starts getting warm. At this point I’m considering upgrading to an eBay aluminum radiator and selling the thing just going to buy a Toyota instead Lmao

You might have a warped block. Luckily mine has held long enough to make all the work I put into it worth it. I did the repair pretty much right at 250,000 miles and the car now has 276,000 miles. If it goes out again I will swap it with a k24

I have the same exact problem I can drive it for hours no overheating park the car for hour and drive it again it starts overheating frustrating. I change the sensor same thing......my question is it worth getting new head gasket?

If you can do the work yourself it's definitely worth it. It's been 10 months already since I changed mine and I already put another 17k miles on the car and have not had any other issues at all and car is still running really good.

After installing the new fan switch were you still running water or coolant

I think it was just water. I ended up replacing the head gasket a week later and finally fixed the overheating issue.

What’s that app you use to monitor your civic?

The app is called Torque. The app icon looks like a check engine light diagram and says OBD CHECK
