Should I make an in-depth video on a particular side of game development? (Like Coding, or Art?)

The idea of spending years on something only for it to flop or not even see the light of day terrifies me but man what you've done with this is really something special. I remember seeing this project way back. Great to see the end of the road!

So something that I've learned as I've gotten older and I wish I learned earlier is to allow yourself to be new at a new skill, for me I was so afraid of failure that I'd never learn something new. But reality is we learn as humans more from failure than we do from success, so it's okay to fail! If you do, and you probably will with something as complex as a game let's be honest here it's a complex amalgamation of stuff science, language, math, art. And those are just the basic skills, it goes further in the more complex your project. So make games and learn from everything you do and eventually you'll get better and better and better, . Its not a race it's a learning experience, and the only way to really fail is either to never start for fear of failure. Best of luck I really hope to see your work in the future 😀

I'm studying game art right now and your story is honestly so inspiring. You don't shy away from talking about your failures and instead show us what we can learn from them. I really hope your game will be a success and that I might also be able to develop one in the future.

20 minute - 23 minute mark was beautiful. I am a college professor and director of data science courses while also working on my PhD in AI but I have been making games on the side for years, doing consulting work for indies who don't underestand economics / econometrics for their games. I have been working on my dream game for years and I redo it from scratch each time I learn new skills. I can walk miles around adobe products and game engines, but I am solo so it gets discouraging when I run into breaks where I see new completed games. I teach my students growth mindset and I'm here living it. I also think back to the fact that I am trying to also tell a story and immerse the audience in an environment. I am also reminded that a lot of games exist and are fun to play now even though their style and concept are almost 40 years old.

I've been following your journey on Patch Quest for years now, learning from your experiences as you developed all these things and explained all your Dev Logs and... I don't design video games, my focus tends to be more on the tabletop: TTRPGs, Card Games, Board Games. And I've learned so much from seeing you fight to finish this game that I can apply to my own projects. I didn't realize until I'd discovered your videos that I'd made much the same mistake, and overlooked what the core of my game was and had to restart from scratch several times before I was finally able to settle on something.
My own projects are still in development, but I wanted to take a moment to thank you for all the advice, guidance, and inspiration you've given me over the years. I *finally* remembered to subscribe today, and you can bet I'll be buying a copy when Patch Quest Releases next month. Thank you so much for everything, and congratulations on your upcoming release.

Tracking the progress in the great dev log videos and having a go at it for each new update has been a blast and the game have managed to impress me with new brilliant features every time becoming even better (For instance when underwater and all the music and sounds become “submerged”. This video was beautifully made. I was really excited to make tote bags of my designs but failed miserably. And I decided to learn to make magnets. My magnets came out great. It’s true. The first projects might not come out great. And I feel your pain and disappointment from hoping the first project to succeed. But I told myself that the old me knew nothing about tote bags and making magnets. I have learned alot and I am still learning at my pace. I have other little projects that I am working on. But my most proud project I have made so far are my magnets of my designs. These types of lessons you learn as you continue your path and stop to think about your progress. And try not to be harsh on yourself. Instead see your improvements.😊 Wonderful video. Hope to see more of your video game making videos. And improvements.

Wow, thank you for sharing your story and process. I struggle with over ambition at times which causes self doubt. This seems prevalent with any individual or team who is set out to create something that hasn’t existed. We can really suffer more in our own imagination than reality. But if we can just surpass ourselves from yesterday, that is the progress we are after. This video really breaks down something seemingly daunting and complex into simple segments that can be worked on and achieved by a solo creator. I appreciate the positive message and hope this message gives.
One thing this video reminds me is that although I am a solo creator, somewhere out there another creator is making things on their own too and through this work, we are connected in this shared process to keep going as a separate but collective team to be better than ourselves yesterday.

I saw NL play this game, and was very disappointed he didn't play more - so when i got the opportunity, I got it! This game really hits a niche for me I love (the part htat adored Pokemon Ranger as a child) and I love that this is a rougelike game! Thanks for sharing this process - this game is fun!

Ahhh, I remember when I first started watching Patch Quest devlogs back in late 2019. I actually started trying to develop games back then, but I'm still yet to find something that really resonates with me. Its been really inspiring to see this game develop and evolve. I love the art style the gameplay and the very unique hook of the game and it's amazing to see this game finally on steam and available.

Been developing a game for a good minute and I’ve never felt disheartened by new releases since I’m making my game BECAUSE it doesn’t exist. No other game has the animations I want to look at with the mechanics I want to pilot and the story I want to tell. I personally have to put that into the world

Really proud how far this project has come and how much you have learned and share it with us! You nailed it with monster design and understood appeal, which many other monster designers seem to miss. I'm also trying making game and it is really hard!

Thanks for the video, you give me (probably) the necessary motivation to start my journey how a Game Developer, I try don't give up, and also I reached to be a Big Developer, your name there is on the credits for my Journey, thanks man. I didn't have money to buy the Patch Quest, but... your game looks very very funny and one day, I will buy
