I fucking love how the entire first encounter with Desaan is him toying with Kyle. Most games today would detach you from that experience in a cutscene. This moment is made awesome by the fact that you have full access to the controls, with the illusion that you can win and are supposed to fight which makes him fucking you up all the more poignant. It puts you in Kyle's shoes, anxious to get a Lightsaber and kick his scaly arse.
I like how they introduced Desann here. He was not mentioned anywhere in the manual and the player only had a very short conversation on the intercom with admiral Fyyar as a hint of his existence. You knew that there was someone pulling the strings behind the Remnant yet you had no idea precisely who he was and then *bam! he crashes into the story and fucks Kyle up royally. He really does not appear much in the game between this and the final boss battle but this first encounter really made you buy him as a credible threat. He is not the most complex villain but they utilized him pretty well in the story.
I personally thought Desann was tougher than Jerec and I preferred him over Tavion any day as a villian. I did think it was interesting how Alora went from being weak to being one of the toughest opponents in Jedi Academy.
Mark Klastorin's vocal performance as Desann is still amazing even still today. Same with Jeff Bennett as Kyle. Just great actors and voices all around. Mon Mothma is another standout performance. Ultimately classic series.
The first time I was trying so hard, I threw a grenade when I realized he could block my blaster fire, but then he used the force to fling it back at me, and I loitered around for a while trying to lure him towards the explosive barrels then he just flipped me aroind like a pancake.
This game was so much fun to play on PC 🙂! This bossfight was intense and later you realised you were supposed to lose 😂. Well played Raven Software 👏🏻
@@ibmm3358 grey jedi in legends were force users of the light and dark so yes they do exist just not called Grey Jedi officially. But no Katarn was not one
Amazing that Jan is apparently the first character able to take a lightsaber slash to the back and survive. Tavion intentionally made sure to make it look like she was gonna cut Jan in half, but she just lightly brushed the saber against her back as Desann told Tavion at the last moment within her mind to keep the girl as bait (just like how Leia uses her brain to telecommute with Luke and Grogu talks to Ahsoka with their minds) as Jan let out an excruciatingly painful sigh. Tavion also saw through the deceptiveness in Desann’s voice, but Kyle couldn’t because at the time, Katarn cut himself off from the Force like Luke did in the Last Jedi & Obi-Wan on the Kenobi series.
What I like about the player in this video is that he managed to put up a fight against Desann even without a lightsaber and the Force; unlike many others, who often get "manhandled" in this first fight.
I just cant decide if the "valley of the jedi" was a good concept or a bad one. I think they are dangeroulsy grasping something like that with that "Brendok Vergence" pit.
We don't get this kind of thing much in games anymore these days. A boss fight where you are designed to lose as part of the story - not as in "win the fight, lose in the cutscene", as in you literally cannot win the fight in gameplay and the game REQUIRES you to "die" to progress. Seriously, even if you cheat to get your lightsaber, full force powers, godmode, you still can't win. Desann is marked as invincible here.
There's already a guy doing this in a form of movie-animation with UE5, he's just taking his time with it, but I'm sure at some point he will release his project. th-cam.com/video/DWYvTeBonRA/w-d-xo.html&t

I like how you portrayed the fight by actually trying. It made it more cinematic.

I love this game, it is after all my first PC game ever since the very early 2000's & screw the new movies! this here is my EP VII & VIII, lol.
This dude is my favorite of all the grey jedi, I hope he makes some kind of appearance in any of the new series.
He's not a grey Jedi. He's a sith
@@thescruffinator8830 I meant Kyle not Dessan, I consider Kyle to be a grey Jedi.

This was my first Jedi Knight game, so the moment Desann whipped out a lightsaber my 8 year old jaw dropped
2:45... DAMN he got fucked up LOL
I was a young kid when this game came out and when I got to this point, I felt my heart break.

I remember this game was so hard to me! :D first game that i completed as a kid :D
Run Katarn, Hahahahahaha!! ))
He reminds me of Megatron from Beast Wars.
Desann and Tavon would’ve made excellent inquisitors in the official canon.
They deserve better than that.
#AWSITHSPIT! LOL. Love that line!
Good job with this, it's my favourite cutscene next to Desann vs. Luke. Also, what mods did you use?

I would've liked to hear Desann in Japanese.
Jouji Nakata (Alucard, Diethard and Kirei Kotomine) would be perfect for him.
Who is the actor playing Desann voice ?
Mark Klastorin I believe. Think he died around 2012?
GUYS REALLY we must make aq movie out of this
