  • Today I give you my spring 2021 college dorm room tour! I'm currently a sophomore at Wellesley College, and I'm living in Claflin Hall for Fall 2020 to Spring 2021. I live in a suite with my block-mate, which includes two single rooms! I love Claflin Hall because of its proximity to Wellesley College's Lake Waban, the Academic Quad, Lulu, the KSC Fitness Center, and the library.

Thank you so much! I hope you get in too! I don't have much knowledge about the waitlisting process - I wish I could help you! 🥺
Here are a few articles I've found about getting off the waitlist from a quick Google search:

First off, congratulations! I'm so excited for you! I can't wait to see you around campus.
This is a GREAT question and it's definitely something I want to go into greater detail in a future video. There are two things I regret not doing more of in freshman year: getting more involved with clubs/orgs and using shadow grading to my advantage. Joining extracurriculars is pretty self explanatory. As for shadow grading, I wish I had gotten more of my distribution requirements out of the way. For example, I took all of my math and science requirements when I did get graded for the courses, and because STEM doesn't come as naturally to me, it required me to put in more of an effort to get good grades. This obviously depends on the person.
As for first year in general, meet new people, socialize as much as possible, go to office hours, develop a study routine, and meet with your college and career advisors and deans.
The first year is definitely about starting to establish connections, brainstorming potential career paths (if you already know, flushing them out), and developing a support system for the future.
Let me know if you have specific questions about any of these!

@@ShaylaZamora Hello! I also got accepted! What is shadow grading? Is it not a good idea to get the required classes out of the way early on?

    • @uhhhhname9414

I’m sorry for all the questions!🤣

    • @ShaylaZamora

@Nkechi Congratulations!!! Never apologize for asking questions - that's what I'm here for! Shadow grading is a policy for first year students where all students pass/fail their first semester of freshman year. This means that instead of getting a letter grade, the only thing that shows up on your transcript is if you passed that class with at least a D. You can learn more about it here: www.wellesley.edu/registrar/grading/grading_policy/shadow_grading_policy/policy
Many people use shadow grading differently. I used it to take some classes that I was interested in but didn't necessarily apply to my majors and wasn't sure how well I would do. Other people use it to take the requirements that they aren't proficient in. Depends on the person!
Once you arrive at Wellesley you will be assigned an Academic Success Coach (www.wellesley.edu/pltc/ascs) who can brainstorm the different pathways for you. I wouldn't stress too much about it!

are all of the single dorm rooms around the size of yours? i love the bench area! your whole dorm is stunning!!

    • @ShaylaZamora
      @ShaylaZamora  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Singles are generally this size! They're bringing in architects to reevaluate which rooms can be singles, doubles, triples, etc. according to their size so things might change for next year.
I'm also obsessed with the bench area, although I don't use it as often as I should lol thank you so much for watching ❤️❤️❤️

The virtue posturing with the "outside mask" is a bit nauseatingly overboard. lmao
