Bro I haven’t forgot about the cutting board, I just bought a 20 acre property AND the house I currently live in, I got a lot on my plate, I got your address wrote down, you will be pleasantly surprised one day in the near future :)
I'm thinking about getting into quail but want to make sure I build adequate space in the hutches for them. You've mentioned in a different video they need 1 sq. ft. per bird, but I see you have 23 in this hutch, which doesn't look that big. Can you fit more in a hutch when they are small? When do you give them more space?
Chris, It seems that many of the quail breeders seem to keep the birds inside; you keep yours outside. It would seem to me that your birds would be healthier. Is there any information on the different locales? Also, are the droppings good for the garden? Thanks. Bob
Man I have my 3 weex old chicks (9x) in the brooder box, W50 L100 H60 cm made from 2 cardboxes taped together, and I'm moving them to ther bigger wire-wood mansion whici is 3 times bigger, but my guys tend to attempt rocketing off the opening as soon I try to get in to change water, give food and clean. I see your guys are extremely quiet, do they get there once more grown? Mine are generally silent and relaxed but I fear theyll pop off the box fledging around everytime I'll open it or am I too worried?
they do tend to mellow out a little as they get older. Also, I think the open wire area allows them to see so they don't get as spooked and don't tend to flush as much.
I have cailfornia valley quail, you said you put your hatch outside at 2 weeks old........I tryed putting mine out at 4 weeks and they all died......do you have any suggestions.......
Max just wants to make sure you don't lose any LOL. My quail are outside on the ground, so they dirt bathe in the dirt, and love it.
Great video! New subscriber! Thanks for all your quail content! We are looking at building a hutch like yours this spring!

I get sand/dirt from home construction sites. They are all over the place around here with huge piles. Never wash or bake it. No issues.
I’m pretty new to quail. Why do you use sand in their hutch? Is it like a dust bath for chickens?
Yes
I like that he keeps the sand in a separate part. I put a tray down in my set up and they kick it everywhere over their food and water bowls.
Max had my dog barking too! Lol
lol. Sorry about that.

Can I put quail in the same area as chickens, not same box, but same area about 10 feet away from chicken house.
Thank you 😌
chris, what weight are your birds up too in grams? mine are still small and working on size.
Is the hutch roof below the corrugated iron wire or wood?
does anyone know why my hen laid a dark brown egg? It's aways been white with brown speckles.
Do they sleep in the darkened enclosed part of the hutch?

Too cold? I had a power cut while out the house and lost 10. They crushed each other.
I put mine out at two weeks like he does. No issues. I'm in SW Florida though.
